"The unexpected was often harder than the anticipated."

The Chase by Lisa Harris is thrilling and suspenseful but with a tenderhearted, Christian-based layer that softens the brutal pace of the hunt. Deputy US Marshals Jonas Quinn and Madison James are back in the game and hot on the trail of some crafty, thrill-seeking bank robbers. When the situation escalates and people start getting hurt, Jonas and Madison must keep their razor-sharp focus and refrain from letting things become too personal. Any distraction or one wrong move, and the fugitives will be in the wind, for good.

Lisa Harris is definitely an expert at building an electrifying plot and infusing it with dynamic relationships, personal struggles, and a bit of romance, resulting in a top-notch, fast-paced story populated with several compelling characters. The Chase is book two in the US Marshals series, but it can stand alone quite well; however, book one, The Escape, is so exciting that you really should pick that one up as well and read the series in order. Jonas and Madison are a good team in both The Escape and The Chase, so you won’t want to miss out on any of the fun that both books have to offer.

The author adds in an extra level of mystery, starting in book one when we find out that Madison’s husband, Luke, was murdered five years prior, with the case still unsolved and the killer still at large. While Madison and Jonas chase the bank robbing fugitives, Madison’s personal mystery of her husband’s death continues to heat up. Having more than one mystery on deck could be a bit confusing, but Lisa Harris presents them with a realistic air mixed with a significant amount of fictional flair.

The bandits in The Chase lead Madison and Jonas on a not-so-merry pursuit through Seattle and beyond, but good always triumphs over evil eventually, right? Right?

Finding these miscreants is definitely not a slam dunk for this US Marshal duo, and the actual chase turns into a cat-and-mouse game that quickly escalates into an aggressive and deadly search that is anything but a game. The Chase is a rough and tumble ride, but the camaraderie and tentative feelings between Jonas and Madison provide the overall story with an interesting and touching diversion from all the high-speed action. As an added bonus, the Christian theme is prevalent but not overpowering as both Madison and Jonas explore and express their faith in subtle yet powerful ways.

Amidst the hunt and frantic chase scenes, some prominent points portrayed throughout include handling grief and navigating evolving personal relationships. Dealing with tragedy and moving on can be difficult because of unresolved guilt or the fear of future commitment because of the concern of experiencing even more loss. Both main characters must work through these personal challenges while still focusing one hundred percent on their job, creating a much more dynamic plot than just two people chasing down outlaws, no matter how thrilling and exciting that traditional fictional artifice turns out to be. And The Chase is definitely pretty exciting all the way through, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader racing toward that last enticing page and more than ready for the next book.

Will her first day back on the job be her last?

I'm going to start off by confessing that I read this book out of order. The Chase is the second US Marshals book from author Lisa Harris, but, not paying attention, I read it first. Oops! I kinda felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story, and technically, that's exactly what happened. But. You knew that 'but' was coming didn't you? Lisa Harris is such a skillful author that she had me completely engrossed in The Chase, pun intended, of course. I was invested in Madison and Jonas even though I didn't always know the background.

Lisa Harris has always been good for a good action-packed romantic suspense read but I think The Chase might have had the corner on that this time around. This US Marshals novel was non-stop action and suspense right from the start, a little lighter on the romance which I appreciated, and definitely a real page-turner.

Despite reading The Chase out of turn I really enjoyed it. Lisa Harris successfully kept me entertained and intrigued while I was bored out of my mind house sitting, a person can only handle so much TV, after all. I can definitely recommend the US Marshals series, though you need to read them in order, especially if if you enjoy romantic suspense that relies more on suspense and allows to the romance to develop more slowly. Hey, you as far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong choosing any book by this author...

The Chase was a book that kept you reading. Madison and Jonas are US Marshals and are after a set of bank robbers. This group has been hitting up several places, but soon they mess up and the stakes are higher. After someone gets hurt, Madison and Jonas go after them and soon the chase begins. They have to work at tracking them down and catching them. Along the way different people get hurt and they have to work on deciding what is the next best step to take. A great read and look forward to the next chapter.

The second book in the US Marshals series is fast paced and hits the floor running.
We engage with many of the same characters as we met in the first book so we are familiar with them making for a very easy to follow but exciting story line.
This is only my second read by this author after reading the first in the series the 2020 release, The Escape. It was action packed and I really enjoyed it and was looking forward to this one and I was not disappointed.
Well done, one for the read again shelf. I am looking forward to the next one by this author in this captivating series.

I loved this book!! I picked it up even though I hadn't read the 1st in the series and didn't feel lost at all. I liked the alternating viewpoints from Madison & Jonas and felt their relationship was very true-to-life (ie. complicated). The author was able to reveal the back-story about Madison's husband's murder & cold case without slowing down the action from the current crime story about a string of bank robberies. Madison & Jonas track the criminals and find they're part of a larger network that has to do with politics, tech, and gaming. The book was fast-paced with lots of action yet there were plenty of heart-warming scenes with Madison and her family and Jonas with his former partner. The characters and their lives were well-fleshed out. At the end of the book we learn more about Madison's husband's death and while she and Jonas develop their relationship past friendship, the book will definitely leave readers on pins & needles waiting to find out the conclusion to the series and answers as to who is behind Madison's husband's murder and why, and whether she and Jonas end up finding love together. What was most appealing for me is that this book was free of graphic violence, sex, or foul language but just as well-plotted and action-oriented as anything from Hollywood!

In the second of her "US Marshals" series, Lisa Harris continues the story of partners Madison James and Jonas Quinn. While solving their cases, they are all business and focused on their jobs. But feelings are starting to creep their way in. However, Madison is still trying to solve the case of who killed her husband and is now coming after her.

I enjoyed how Harris continues the storyline from book to book, although I would have liked a little more progress in the relationship department. Overall, I really enjoyed the mystery and look forward to reading the next book in this series! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Overall, I thought The Chase was a solid second book in the series. I really enjoy that the author is writing more than one book on these characters as it is not typical for the genre. Writing a book with a “chasing after suspects” plotline can be difficult to pull off, but this author was successful in this novel. Having the side story of trying to solve the murder of Madison’s husband provides a nice filler in between the main story that isn’t boring. I enjoyed the ending to this book more than the first.

One area I still think could be amped up is the romance between Madison and Jonas. It is very much a slow-burning romance, which I don’t mind, but I feel like I’m being told more than shown how their relationship is developing. Looking forward to seeing how this continues to play out in the third book.

The Chase is a race filled with twists and complications. It is an engaging read and builds on book one while being enjoyable on its own. The characterization is rich, and the pacing great. It’s fascinating look at what the US marshals do.

This is the second book in the US Marshals series that picks up where book one left off.

US Marshal Madison James’ memories of who shot her are still elusive, but she is ready to get back to work. When she and her partner Jonas Quinn take on some bank robbery cases they are quickly reminded of just how precarious life can be. Determined to solve the mystery and preserve public safety, the bank robbers continue to lead them on a chase of epic proportions. Are all of these events connected in any way? And will we find any more clues to discovering who shot Madison??

This is definitely a “series” book; meaning you will for sure want to read the first one before beginning this one. Fortunately for you, you won’t have the waiting period I did from book 1 to book 2! J

Lisa Harris has been a must read author for me for several years now. Her new US Marshals series is two for two winners so far in my book. I loved The Escape last year and had the same sentiment upon finishing The Chase this summer. Lisa Harris is a master of writing fast paced suspense that keeps your attention and keeps you turning those pages until the end. What I also appreciate about her series is that she usually has some kind of suspenseful, continuing storyline that is personal to the main character that is not related to the main plot of the current book. The side plot in this series has me totally intrigued and I can't wait to get the final book. I just wish us readers didn't have to wait until next spring to get the next installment.

Great 2nd installment to this series. I have the author's 3rd and final installment on my wishlist! The Chase began it's build slowly then a simple job takes Madison and Jonas into the middle of a bank robbery - gone every which way and ending in murder. The police procedural is fantastic. I love the crime fighting as much as I do the romance, and the author does a great job of weaving twists and smart villains into a mad chase. A great read.

This was a fantastic follow up to book 1. This was a 5 fingernail biter. I think from now on that's how I'm going to have to rate suspense novels from now on.

Madison is back on the job with Jonas and it seems that during her recovery after being shot at the end of book one. I love that the author built in a sense of time with her recovery so that their relationship in general had time to grow.

Their first day on the job together again had a lot of hair raising moments. The day starts out with a bang and doesn't end until we close the last page. As we follow Jonas and Madison chasing the bank robbers, it's easy to see how close partners can get to each other. The author gives us a great sense of how they have to rely on each other.

I feel like this book had an even stronger sense of C.S.I. with the addition of Piper who does the deep dives into peoples backgrounds, only activity, etc. I really liked her character.

It was so easy to get frustrated with side characters in the story who tip off people that the U.S. Marshals have shown up or lie to them! Funny how angry I got with people hampering law enforcement in a fictional story!

The personal direction of the story just got to my heart with Jonas and Madison. Will they or won't they. It seems like they will, but will either of them want to take the chance again? I mean, especially with someone who is in the same line of dangerous work they're doing. Of course, Madison is still dealing with her memory loss and not remembering who it is that shot and killed her husband. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for her to remember something, anything from that night!

As with book one I wanted to know why a couple of the bad guys in the story were doing what they were doing. We have Madison and Jonas' theories, but are they right? This is just a personal quirk for me. I want to understand what's going on in the bad guy's mind. Not having that leaves me wondering. hahahaha I need closure. :)

Lisa Harris is the author you want to read for great mysteries and thrillers. The Chase provided both. U.S. Marshall Madison James is just coming off a medical leave after being shot in her own home by an unknown assailant. Her husband, a doctor, was murdered just five years before and his killer never found. Lisa cannot remember her assailant even though she looked right at him as he shot her. This novel leaves one with the impression that there will be more to this in subsequent novels.

Her partner, Jonas Quinn, has received a warrant for persons involved in a string of bank robberies. Lisa insists that she is fine to work with him. This case is strange though. The last robbery has gone wrong, but the robbers escape with a carefully contrived exit strategy. It seems that these persons are only after the thrill of it, not the money.

The Chase can be read as a stand alone but you will have more background and be more familiar with the characters if you read US Marshals, #1 The Escape first! US Marshal, Madison James and her partner, Jonas Quinn, are excellent protagonists as they work to capture a group of bank robbers! What if these bank robbers don't need the money but just want the thrill of pulling off a robbery? Who shot Madison three months ago? Who breaks into Madison's house? Lisa Harris writes lots of action in The Chase! If you enjoy reading suspense, you won't want to miss The Chase! I received an advance complimentary e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

Lisa Harris continues US Marshall Madison James' story in her latest fast-paced novel.

It's been a few months since Madison was shot in her kitchen--and she still doesn't remember who shot her. However, she does know it was the same person who killed her husband five years earlier and that it's high past time to get back to work. When her partner, Jonas Quinn, gets the call to try to figure out who is behind a series of bank robberies, Madison begs for the chance to join him. But these aren't your average bank robbers. They thrive on adrenaline and are starting to escalate their crimes. Madison and Jonas will have to work harder than they've ever worked before to capture these thrill-seekers turned murderous bank robbers before they hurt anyone else.

I really enjoyed "watching" Madison and Jonas together, especially since a slowly-budding romance seems more real-life than the typical whirlwind romance we see in most romantic fiction. Harris made both characters (as well as the rest of the cast) extremely realistic and believable. Their emotions are raw and real, and the plot was exciting and well-developed. As always, I appreciated the strong faith aspect and the characters' faith in the One who made them. The Chase kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

I highly recommend The Chase for anyone who enjoys a good romantic suspense novel.

I liked this story with its exciting moments and twists and turns. The mystery Jonas and Madison are working to solve is an interesting one and very fast paced. It held my attention well wanting to see how it would all play out. I like the growing relationship between Madison and Jonas and am interested to see how it plays out in the upcoming finale. The story is a quick and easy read and perfect for an afternoon escape. Looking forward to the finale and to see how the case regarding Madison's husband is finally solved. Can't wait for April 2022!

US Marshal Madison James may not be sure who shot her three months ago, but she does know one thing--it's time to get back out into the field. When her partner, Jonas Quinn, receives a message that a federal warrant just came in on a man connected to a string of bank robberies, Madison jumps at the chance to get back to work. What she and Jonas find is a bank robbery in progress that's gone wrong--and things are about to get worse.

For these bank robbers, it's never been just about the money. It's about taking risks and adrenaline rushes, and getting caught is not part of the game. When the suspects escape, Madison and Jonas must hunt them down and bring them to justice before someone else--someone close to them--gets hurt . . . or worse.

This is the second book in the US Marshall series. It's not necessary to read the first book in the series to read this book. It might be helpful though to understand some of what is going on in this book. This book starts up three months after the first book ends where Madison is shot in her home. The trouble is she can't remember who shot her and killed her husband several years earlier. As Jonas and Madison try to catch the bank robbers they are still working her shooting. I highly recommend this book for those who like suspense.

The Chase is a fast paced book that I would highly recommend and is the second book in the US Marshals series. The book was written by Lisa Harris, and it is another excellent book.
The author creates very believable scenarios of almost nail-biting drama. Her characters of Madison James and Jonas Quinn are US Marshals based in the Seattle area. The book starts out with the first day back on the job for Madison after she was shot in her own home. Their friendship and partnership continue as he is following up on a lead that he has for a case he has been working on during her time off. It involves bank robberies in the Seattle area. These US Marshals follow clues and happen to find themselves in the middle of one such robbery. Would they be able to find the suspects before more people were murdered?
I thoroughly enjoyed the page turning book and can’t wait to read more from this author.
I was given a free copy of this book for review and the opinion is my own. #TheChase #LisaHarris #USMarshals

This is the second book in this series. I loved the first one so I was eager to read this one.

This is a good one too, although I don’t think I liked it as much as the first. But it was non-stop action. I also like how Lisa is weaving the romance throughout all of the books. Our two main characters have a growing affection for each other but it isn’t happening in one book, which honestly, makes it more realistic.

In the first book was get hints about what happened to Madison’s husband and in this book that develops even more. I am assuming in the next week we will get the full story and I am sure that will be very interesting.

The Chase, by Lisa Harris, continues the tale of US marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn, After being shot in her own home, Madison is ready to get back to work. Unfortunately, she still cannot remember anything about the person who pulled the trigger seeking to end her life!

When Madison tries to slowly re-enter the force, she is unfortunately pulled back in at full speed. Madison and Jonas are soon racing, after a man they think is part of a group, that may be responsible for multiple bank robberies!

This group of fugitives will soon lead Madison and Jonas on a wild goose chase, as they follow them along their escape route. After several individuals are killed along the way, this group will have much to answer for!

It is interesting to see how these fugitives are finally captured!
