I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A good mystery/thriller/drama novel. Recommend
Wow! Such a compelling start! This kept me guessing all the way through. There were so many twists that I never had it completely right. Who is the killer and who is a victim? The dead guy in her bed suggests that Louse is the killer and she is most definitely a hot mess of an alcoholic. Waking up covered in blood next to a dead body is a heck of a blackout!
This crime series/police procedural featuring DCI Jonah Sheens and his team has become one of my favourites. They are consistently exciting and unpredictable. I just love the characters of Jonah, Hanson, O’Malley , and Lightman and I love that we get to see their lives outside of being police. Hanson’s struggle with her abusive ex is something I really wanted to see come to a resolution. I want that jerk to get what he deserves!
“Lie Beside Me” is just as suspenseful and fast paced as the previous books in this series. I can always depend on Gytha Lodge to take me out of reality and immerse me in a world where the bad guys are always caught and the police are good, empathetic people. It is comfort food for the crime lover's soul.
Thank you to Random House for providing an Electronic Advance Reader Copy via NetGalley for review.
There are so many unexpected what they heck twists in this book that really surprise you! This Jim was an amazing wild ride In my eyes. I enjoyed to follow ongoing investigation and team members own issues, Including a stocking ex who is also a member of the squad! The author wrapped up the conclusion smartly in my eyes some parts very unexpected and well played. Louisa story truly ached my heart for so long she was best written, saddest, and most realistic character I’ve read which is a good reason I honestly am giving this book a 4.5. Definitely grabbed your attention from page one and is an intriguing page Turner throughout the whole book. I think my only downfall is I didn’t read the first two books but I still wasn’t lost and loved it!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Lie Beside Me by Gytha Lodge.
If you love a good cop drama/thriller/suspence/all around great novel, Gytha Lodge has GOT YOU. I am so into this series, I'm currently reading this latest Little Sister right now.
This is the third of the Jonah Sheens series, and it's a DOOZY.
When Louise wakes up, she doesn't feel like herself and knows that something is wrong. When she rolls over to her husband, she finds a man that isn't her husband at all. And he's dead.
Jonah Sheens and his team are on the case. One of the things I love about this series isn't just the stellar story telling and mind blowing mysteries, but how human Lodge has also made the cops. Each of them is grappling and struggling with their own personal lives which may or may not bleed into the professional. I'm thoroughly invested in all of it.
This was a good suspenseful read. The main character is fascinating and the reader wonders if she is truly a reliable narrator. The other characters are all layered and prove to be not who they appear to be. The twists are unexpected and shocking. II really enjoyed this one.
4 starts
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC for an honest review.
Louise wakes up hungover, not sure what happened the night before, next to a dead body. When the police realize Louise hasn't been forthcoming about the events, she ends up the prime suspect. But Louise contends she doesn't remember much about the night. Did she really kill someone? Will she remember? Will the police find the killer?
I found this book a bit of a struggle at the beginning. Once it hit the halfway mark I feel like things picked up and moved more quickly. Overall it was okay.
A fairly straightforward police procedural. The premise was intriguing and did keep me on the edge of my seat and guessing. I did find that it kind of dragged in the middle but overall a good read.
This shocking who-dunnit is a page-turner that you won’t be able to put down. From the very start, the reader is taken down a dark journey when Louise wakes up to find a strange man in her bed. Even worse….the man is dead. From there, a twisty, turny path leads to a shocking ending. This wasn’t the first book in the series, but it was the first one I have read. Even without reading the other ins the series, however, it was very easy to understand what was going on. I highly recommend this book for fans of thrillers.
Louise begins to feel a little more awake. She has a pounding headache, a parched mouth, and hazy memories, but she has a sneaking suspicion she's done something wrong.
As Louise tries in vain to reconstruct her memories, Jonah Sheens and his team begin to assume that she is the major suspect—but they quickly discover that she isn't the only one with a secret.
Lie Beside Me was an engrossing mystery that drew in a wide range of personalities.
We got to know each of the cops and speculate about what they could do next via their thoughts and actions on the case as well as their personal lives and relationships.
This incredible thriller kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. The characters draw you in and the plot is fast paced. I really enjoyed it and looking forward to recommending to friends.
Gytha Lodge can do no wrong! The third in her series of following these detectives, this one had me on the edge of my seat and wanting to finish ASAP. Not only does the mystery in this one grab you, but the character development of the various detectives throughout the three novels is fabulous (I want to be friends with them!). I can't wait until the next in the series because while the mystery was solved, this book still ended on a cliffhanger.
I was not aware this was a series until I updated my GoodReads. This is book #3, but really, it reads as a standalone. I think reading the first two would make this more enjoyable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. This was an excellent mystery.
I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This is the third book in the DCI Jonah Sheens series; it could easily be read as a standalone book though.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat! There were so many plot twists and turns, Louise wakes up in the dark and realizes that she is in bed with someone who is not her husband and not only that but the stranger in bed next to her has been murdered. The police get a call to investigate a murdered man outside of a house, Louise’s house. When they go to make the death notification the murdered man’s husband opens the door making this case now even more difficult to sort our. Louise isn’t a suspect at first but quickly becomes one and then the police have so many suspects but no motives that seem right.
I liked the way the story was unfolded, from Louise’s chapters where she looks back on her life with her husband Niall and her bff, April, and her increased drinking to the chapters as we follow DCI Jonah Sheens and his team try to solve this baffling murder. Loved the ending!
I can’t wait to read more books about these detectives.
Great book! Would definitely read more books by this author.
This is the third book in what has become one of my very favorite mystery series. One of the things that makes this series standout so much for me is that each book has been different from the others. This book almost felt like a domestic suspense from the way that it was written. In it, one of the main characters Louise is writing to her husband and explaining certain things as one storyline. Sorry to be vague here but I don't want to spoil anything because the setup is pretty brilliant. In the other storyline, we see the events of Louise waking up next to a stranger and the subsequent investigation by Jonah Sheen's team. The second thing that really stands out to me and that is present throughout each book in this series is the care that is taken with the characters and especially the victims. The author always takes the time to allow the reader to really feel like they are getting to know these characters in a way that isn't always present in other mysteries or thrillers. I loved how the author kept me guessing throughout this book. I wasn't sure who to trust and/or who was to blame. The only thing that I really knew is that Jonah and his team would figure it out in the end.
Overall, I found this book to be another strong addition to one of my favorite mystery series out there. I NEED other readers to find and love this series as much as I do! You don't necessarily have to read these books in order but I would recommend it if possible. There are these small threads that play out from each book that you would miss out on otherwise. I think that you should pick this book up if you enjoy domestic suspense but want something a bit different, if you enjoy police procedurals, or just want a truly page turning read. I definitely couldn't turn the pages fast enough while reading this one! Now begins the long wait for the next book in the series...I will be jumping on that one as soon as it gets released! Highly recommended!
Bottom Line: A suspenseful addition to a standout series!
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher and NetGalley. I ended up reading a copy thanks to my local library. Honest thoughts are my own.
Great book. Highly recommend and will most defiantly read more by this author and suggest to others!
Powerful- Revelations abound. This is a very good series.
Many thanks to Random House publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I very much enjoyed the first two novels in the DCI Jonah Sheens series so I had high expectations for Lie Beside Me.. While the premise was intriguing - a woman wakes up with a dead stranger in her bed, unable to remember how he got there - and the murderer's identity a surprise, the novel was bogged down by extraneous subplots that had little payoff, or were simply dropped. Too many repetitive details slowed down the pacing as well, incl. Louise writing diary entries explaining the difference between 'Sober Louise' and 'Drunk Louise.'
While the third book was not for me, I plan to return to the series to give it another try.
I love the stories she makes. They’re always addicting and leave you wanting more books by her.
This one is NO EXCEPTION! Could you imagine waking up from a fun night out with a friend to find a dead man in your bed?!?! How do you not get invested in this story? Seriously it is a story that once you start you won’t be able to put down until the end. So addicting.
A woman awakens to discover that the man beside her is not only not her husband, but he’s dead. Though she doesn’t remember what happened, she can’t believe she killed this man. When the police arrive, they find the body in the front yard. The woman is clearly keeping secrets and is a prime suspect.
Lie Beside Me is told using alternating points of view – the suspect, Louise, and the detective, Jonah. Louise is insecure and struggling alcoholic. Jonah is trying to find a killer. The mystery is well paced and complex.
Lie Beside Me is the third book in the DCI Jonah Sheens series, but it can be read as a standalone. I’ve read the previous two books (She Lies in Wait and Watching from the Dark), and think this series is getting better as it goes.
Twisty and intriguing. Lie Beside Me is a straightforward police procedural. A great series for fans of British police procedurals.
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Louise wakes with a headache that just won't quit. Her mouth is dry, tastes like dirty socks, and her memory is hazy.
She rolls over to face her husband, but it's not her husband who lays beside her. In fact, she's never seen this man before ... and he's dead.
Her first thought is to get the man out of her bed, out of the house before calling the police and her husband. If her husband finds out there was a man in their bed, the already teetering marriage will be over.
When DCI Sheens and his team show up to investigate, Louise , because of her absent memory, becomes the prime suspect. As it turns out, she's not the only one hiding something.
Well-written, the plot is complex and the story line filled with twists and turns. The characters are solidly drawn and I really like how their personal lives and the professional lives are blended to give them a certain amount of credibility. Although 3rd in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone, although I highly recommend starting with the first book. The backstories are well worth it.
Many thanks to the author / Random House Publishing Group / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
