While nobody is watching follows Lindsay Ryan through her life post war. It follows her through memories of her trauma day . It also follows her through her current life as well . Lindsay has a stalker who is continually making threats to her. This story had heart , it has grit , it’s a little mystery and a little thriller. It also shows the camaraderie built between soldiers. The special thanks in this really hits home for me.
What a wonderful story ! It gives a real view into what soldiers living with PTSD face in their day to day life , about the scars that never fade doesn’t matter if they are seen or unseen . Showing friendship and strength through everything Lindsay Ryan Kicks some serious butt throughout the book . I hope there ends up being a second to this novel. Initially I wrote a very long winded review of this book but with way to many spoilers attached. So I opened to do something shorter. I would recommend giving this book a read for sure !!
While Nobody is Watching is the story of a woman, Lindsey, whose career as a soldier comes to an abrupt end when she is seriously injured while stationed in Syria resulting in a severe case of PTSD. Upon her return home to Ireland she works with troubled youth. Part drama, part thriller, this book is just so good! Hard to put down and I'm left wanting to spend more time with Lindsey. Hoping for a sequel! I highly recommend this book.
This was a well-written, well thought-out thriller. It also has a non-fiction element to it in that it deals with many issues that real-life servicepersons deal with once they return to civilian life – PTSD and addiction. This element made it a bit hard to read at times, but overall I enjoyed the book. These topics were discussed with candour, and empathy.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bad Press Ink and Michelle Dunne for the opportunity to review this ARC. This review and all opinions are my own.
While Nobody is Watching tells of a woman who had a promising career as a soldier when her life took a drastic turn. While stationed in Syria, a little girl accidentally set off an IED, killing two and seriously injuring Lindsey. Lindsey not only wrongly blames herself for what happened but also has a severe case of PTSD.
Three years later, Lindsey is back home in Ireland, working in a new career mentoring the troubled youth of Cork city. The only one who truly understands what she’s become is her service dog, Frank. Oh, how I loved Frank! He's a seven-year-old German shepherd who would walk through fire for her, and she would do the same for him.
I don't want to write any spoilers so all I can say is that the next chapters of Lindsey's life are anything but warm and cozy. I like Linds very much. I love Frank. I really hope this turns out to be a series!!
A completely engrossing novel. I hesitate to call it a thriller as it is so much more. It depicts what it is like for soldiers to live with PTSD and the reality of troubled teenagers from beyond challenging homes in Ireland who are in one part of the system or another for crimes committed by them or their parents. And then it is also a thriller. This is the second scary book I have read in a row; must be something about not leaving your house during a pandemic that can change your reading habits:) The reason I did not give this book 5 stars is I was troubled by the climax; not only didn’t I suspect it I didn’t quite believe it. Yet for me that didn’t dampen my enthusiasm for recommending this book.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an early release in exchange for a fair and honest review.
