I love Jennifer Dugan's stories. I was highly anticipating this read after I highly enjoyed Hotdog girl. I could not stop thinking about that book. I ended up enjoying that one (Hotdog Girl), but I still had a great time reading this one.
Her characters are just so relatable, and flawed, and fun.
“I’m not spending my life pretending I’m something I’m not, or making myself smaller and quieter, just because someone else thinks I should.”
I loved the message of the character Morgan. She wasn't afraid to stand up for herself, even when others were trying to push her down.
This was not "Some Girls Do" but rather the first seems to be a collection of the first several chapters of different books. It was really kind of hard to tell as the layout was all messed up. A couple standouts were "Some Girls Do" and "The Passing Playbook".
Thanks to Penguin Teens for the copy.

I wanted to love this book because it's hard to find bisexuality rep done right but... Morgan annoyed me so much!
Great you're out. Fantastic. But that she was zero understanding on why Ruby couldn't and basically tried to forced her to do it... no.
The was lack of communication which also drove me nuts and overall I felt some parts were rushed and needed more attention.
This could've been wonderful but sadly for me it wasn't.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a compilation of previews rather than the book Some Girls Do. I did enjoy the samples (thank you Penguin Teen), but I was disappointed to not receive the book described.
This book was really cute, I loved the banter between the two characters. I literally read this book in one day, I could not put it down. It felt very realistic and was so wholesome to read.
I was really looking forward to reading this, so it was disappointing to discover that the book I downloaded was only a few chapters of this book, and a few chapters of a whole bunch of other books as well. Not at all what I was expecting and extremely frustrating.
This was an adorable YA read and I loved the romance so much! The characters were so fun and the story was very well written!
Some sort of NetGalley/Kindle transfer glitch meant that I was unable to read and fairly review this book, which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to it! Based solely on the premise and how much I loved Dugan's Hot Dog Girl (like, an irrational amount), I have a feeling this one's a winner. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy when it's released in the spring.
This was the perfect angsty/athletic/queer high school romance that I wish had existed years ago. I think it is important to have these imperfect and sometimes messy queer characters in YA right now because we can't expect ANYONE to be perfect in high school, and know how to work through/recognize their own trauma, and to instinctually know how to navigate ANY romantic relationship. At that age it is okay to struggle with these issues and perceptions - we often still won't get it right in our 20s either. Between a track star and a reluctant beauty queen, both characters push against the tropes of what girls should and should not like, how they should act, and what they should dream for. The novel also has a thread of budding activism throughout and it was great to read.
This messy coming-of-age YA rom-com was just a joy to read.
I know we are not supposed to judge a book by it's cover but I judged 'Some Girls Do' by it's cover and I am so glad I did because it turned out to be a delightful read! It was not the fluffy summer romance that 'Hot Dog Girl' was. It had a lot more depth and dealt with some really important issues LGBTQ kids face while at it's core being a very sweet romance that'll have you drowning in feels.
I would like to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read the first three chapters of this novel. With only those few pages I was able to get an idea of the story and familiarize with the main characters. Just in these first chapters, the book already seems very promising, with characters with realistic (and somewhat relatable) feelings and motivations. I very much look forward to reading the whole story when it comes out in 2022.
I was so excited to receive this ARC; however, I only got excerpts from different books?! Nonetheless, those samples made me excited and curious about the books.
I was looking forward to reading and reviewing this book but as others have said as well, we received only samples of different books. This was quite disappointing as I was really looking forward to reading Some Girls Do... I will be buying and reading the actual book!
I didn't realise this was a sampler rather than a full book! Regardless the stories involved were fun and enjoyable, and I will definitley be picking up full copies of some of them.
A heartfelt enemies-to-lovers romance exploring coming to terms with your identity. I'm just so, so happy that we are getting more depth in these books with queer characters. And this one is just done so well. This book was so soft and now I am soft after reading it.
I was really excited to read the book, but as the other reviews say it’s only a sample of it. The little amount of chapters I read where good, they felt like real-life-kind-of-thing, for the way that is narrated and also the temporal line. I love all the academic stuff in here: the academic rivals and also how it’s described all the time and effort put at school/college/academic institution. However these few chapters didn’t got me into the story, I was really looking forward to read more of it as it’s kinda unfair judge the book only for the first chapters. I can’t say much more, only the I love the cover and I wish that this would be the whole book. Thanks NetGalley and the author for sending this to me! <3
I really wanted to read the whole book, but apparently there has been a kind of mistake because this is just a sample. HOWEVER, only the sample made me want to read the whole book, it looks incredible and exciting.
Disappointed because I was really looking forward to Some Girls Do but this appears to be a sampler of sorts. Hoping it’s just an error on Netgalleys part.
as many of the other reviews said this was not the book "some girls do" but instead "read swoon repeat 2021" which is unfortunate because i was looking forward to this book and got excited when i saw the title was on here!
Not sure what happened here, but this was advertised as a copy of “some girls do” but appeared on my kindle as “read, swoon, repeat 2021,” which was a sneak peak of eight or so YA releases for this year.
