This was advertised as being a finished copy of Some Girls Do, not a sampler of multiple books which I have no interest in.
This is very confusing because I got excerpts of a bunch YA romance novels but i didn’t get the actual book which is kind of disappointing because i was looking forward to starting and reading it.
It’s probably a mistake because i didn’t get the actual book which is very disappointing to be honest.
The book that I got was only a sampler of many different romance books. I’m excited to get to read them all when they come out. Some Girls Do is one that I’m the most excited to get to I think of all the ones included because the beginning just hooked me.
G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers.....
Thank you for this amazing YA contemporary romance story!
Wow this is one of the best books I've read this year.
I couldn't put it down and really loved everything about this book!
Morgan and Ruby I just loved them both!
The story is told through both Ruby's and Morgan's points of view which I enjoyed learning more about both and seeing what they were thinking!
Their journey and experiences were something else I admired as well!
I couldn't get enough of this book and was actually sad when I reached the end!
A wonderful enemy to lovers story about two completely different girls!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you again for this opportunity to read this phenomenal book!
I really wish I had loved this book, but I couldn't. It's not that it awful, it just has so many issues that I couldn't fully enjoy the good parts.
As a romance, the focus is on the relationship between Ruby and Morgan. And it is ALL wrong. There are so many complications throughout the book, things that would be easily resolved with a simple conversation, you know. Lots of silly games, immaturity (and I know it's a YA, but both characters are almost adults), selfishness, lack of empathy.
I understand the frustration of being out and wanting a girlfriend like that too, the freedom and confidence to be able to tell the world she's your girlfriend and being cute and lovebirds around. But everyone has a different situation, a different right time. Morgan never really tried to understand why Ruby couldn't do that, and I felt she always looked down on her motives.
Morgan was also impulsive in 99% of the book, without even considering the consequences of what she said and did. She acted like she was right all the time and that was the only thing that mattered.
Overall, I think the idea was good (it's not a innovative book, it's supposed to be a sweet novel, easy and quick to read and leave us with a warm heart), but as I said at the beginning, I couldn't enjoy the good parts.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC with a beautiful cover in exchange for an honest review.
Some Girls Do is more than just what some girls do. This novel tackles heavy issues on sexual identity and the fight against those who would discriminate against you because of who you are. But ultimately, this novel is an educational read, teaching you how to come to terms with who you are but ultimately how to treat other people.
Some Girls Do had me from the moment I heard Jennifer Dugan was writing a new book but really hooked me with the gorgeous cover by Jeff Osterberg though really it had the heart and meat to it for me to merit the hype I’d built up for it. I’d adored Dugan’s previous books, especially Verona comics and its treatment of queer characters so I was very excited to see she was coming out with a queer girl book and this book had all the heart and wit and care of Verona but a very different flavor.
Some Girls Do centers around two main characters- Ruby and Morgan. Ruby has spent her life doing pageants to make her mom happy even though she’d rather be spending time working on cars. Her mom won’t hear of it though and definitely won’t hear of Ruby having feelings for girls which gets complicated when morgan moves to town. After facing backlash from her private school for coming out, Morgan is done being quiet about being gay. While her parents fight a lawsuit against her old school and fight to help Morgan run for the school track team, she’s determined to help other queer kids.
I think the best part of this book for me was how Dugan tackled pride and varying degrees of being out and how being out isn’t always cut and dry. There are so many books and movies about coming out but very rarely do they ever truly delve into the dangers and risks one can face by coming out. Being brave and honest is a great message but I appreciated the way Some Girls Do talked about how not everyone can and not everyone wants to do that while still in high school which is valid and deserves to be talked about.
Some Girls Do was a very quick and compulsive read for me and well-paced. Dugan caught a kind of magic when writing the scenes with Morgan and Ruby. I loved all the side characters like mOrgan’s brother Dylan and the Pride club but I especially had a soft spot for Billy and Ruby’s relationship. That was just so sweet. Though Ruby and Morgan were my favorites and their scenes were just electric. Every time they’d have a scene together was like lightning in a bottle, just vibrant and exciting and charged and I just loved it, the tension was palpable and made me root for them.
This book did my queer heart so much good. I loved how messy and real but sweet it was. Definitely another book well written by Dugan and I’d recommend it in a heartbeat. Though I will say, content warning for homophobia and also an abusive parent, so be aware!
This is very misleading as I thought I was requesting Some Girls Do but instead got a bunch of excerpts from different YA books. This seems to be an error on Netgalley and should be updated to avoid confusion in future.
Disappointing as I was really looking forward to reading Some Girls Do!
A lovely glimpse of YA books that will be released throughout 2021. Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan and The Passing Playbook by Isaac Fitzsimons were standouts. Amazing rep, brilliantly humorous and impactful writing.
This looks very exciting and I love it soo much!!! I think that we will have lots of fun reading this over and over again
Greta bunch of reads and very exciting book releases to look forward too in the new year. Can’t beat the love and for sure you can’t beat those young adult romance vibes
The book was a little miss leading but it was fun nonetheless, I found so many amazing romances that now I'll be reading , specially some girls do which I know will be a swoon worthy sapphic romance
This doesn't seem to be the whole book. Its many excerpts from different books. A little misleading as I thought I was getting one entire book. This isn't a review of Some Girls Do. I guess I'm still a little confused by the Netgalley system or the book that is given and the book on the cover are not matching up.
The 3 chapters of Some Girls Do were amazing!! I’m already attached to both the main characters and I always love a dual perspective novel. I am so looking forward to buying this when it is released!
Loved this! Getting sneak peeks of books is always amazing. I’m always wanting more from the blurb on the back and by reading these, I did. Added all to my wishlist.

I love YA romance, and I loved this series of samples of upcoming YA romance books. The chapters included for each book were enough for me to understand the books, and I felt like a lot of books were included. Please check this out if you can!
