"Hairpin Bridge" by Taylor Adams is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The characters are vividly drawn and utterly compelling, each with their own secrets and motivations that add depth to the story. Set against the backdrop of a remote mountain town and its treacherous hairpin bridge, the atmospheric setting adds an extra layer of tension and suspense to the narrative, immersing readers in a world where danger lurks around every corner.
Adams's writing style is taut and suspenseful, with prose that crackles with tension and intrigue. The plot of "Hairpin Bridge" unfolds with a perfect blend of mystery and suspense, as the protagonist delves deeper into the secrets of the town and the truth behind her sister's death. The logic behind the characters' actions is sound, adding to the realism and authenticity of the story. The relationships between the characters are complex and emotionally resonant, adding depth and nuance to the narrative.
Overall, "Hairpin Bridge" is a pulse-pounding thriller that is sure to keep readers guessing until the very end. Adams's skillful storytelling, atmospheric setting, and compelling characters make for an immensely enjoyable reading experience. Whether you're a fan of mystery, suspense, or simply love a good page-turner, "Hairpin Bridge" is a must-read that will leave you breathless.
Better than I was expecting, but still kind of slow-moving, at least at times. I would still recommend it to those to who enjoy psychological fiction.
Sooo good! One of my faves to read! Definitely would recommend picking this one up if you see it in the store
Definitely held my attention. Enjoyed the characters, held in place. Narrative told in present and recent past.
Started lagging toward the end. Lots of confusion- definitely the intention.
Well done.
I was a huge fan of No Exit so I couldn’t wait to read Hairpin Bridge. This one did not disappoint. This was a fast paced propulsive read that will have you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend adding this to your TBR. Can’t wait for more from this author.
I loved No Exit from Taylor Adams and was incredibly excited for Hairpin Bridge. Unfortunately, this one lacked the same thrill that I felt in No Exit and didn't quite wow me the same.
Cambry Nguyen drove to a remote bridge two states away and jumped two hundred feet to her death. The official police report documented the tragedy as a suicide, but Lena, Cambry's estranged twin sister, refuses to accept what happened. After spending three months scouring the logged evidence, Lena believes she knows what really happened that night, and she will risk everything to clear her sister's name. But to do so, she will have to face Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the police officer who was the last person to see Cambry alive. Having spent several months preparing for this encounter, Lena believes she can force the truth from him once and for all, but what she doesn't know is uncovering the truth about Hairpin Bridge and her sister's link to its seedy past may come at a price too high to bear.
Hairpin Bridge is an excellent edge-of-your-seat thriller complete with fast-paced action, gory detail, and a fierce heroine willing to risk it all for family.
This started off really strong and I was invested in the story, but then things just went downhill. I lost interest in the story and the characters.
I went back and forth with the book and the audiobook and I absolutely adore Sophie Amoss!
This book kept my attention and I really enjoyed the story! I’m always intrigued with stories about twins!
I've pondered my thoughts about this book for awhile. I think I liked it in the end, but it took awhile for me to warm up to it. I can't really put a finger on why I have such mixed feelings as it held my attention but I'm not sure I connected with the characters. I think the storyline was original and interesting - an impending forest fire plays a very interesting character in the overall plot and I enjoyed this as it was a different aspect from other stories. Readers who are looking for a quick overall entertaining, page turning summer read will enjoy and appreciate the very interesting twists at the end.
I liked the character interactions and the fast pace of the story. The ending was not what I expected. I really enjoyed this book.
I was so excited for this book. I had heard nothing but great things about No Exit so it was a no brainer to add this to my tbr. Unfortunately, this book was just not for me. The premise was great! The beginning started out really good. The problem I ran into was the repetitious storyline. That being said, I still look forward to reading more from this author but this was more miss than hit for me.
Overall this was a "miss" in my book. I had high hopes after enjoying No Exit, but this really missed the mark. On top of being unrealistic it did what no thriller should ever do. It was boring!
Didn't capture my attention and engagement. Interested in trying it again though and hopefully it will take.
WOW! What a ride! Hairpin Bridge was an intense read, from beginning of end. Engaging and propulsive, this thriller kept me guessing. I don't think there was a single moment I knew what was going to happen next. I couldn't put this one down!
It has been three months since Leyna Nguyen’s sister, Cambry, committed suicide on a desolate bridge in Montana. Only Lena doesn't believe that Cambry committed suicide. As her twin, she would know if it was suicide. Lena decides to retrace her steps, hoping to get to the truth. Lena has reached out to the state patrol officer who found Cambry's body. Corporal Raymond Raycevic agrees to meet her, but Lena has a bad feeling that the law enforcement officer is not giving her the whole story. As the afternoon wears on, Corporal Raycevic's story just doesn't seem to add up and Lena finds herself in a precarious situation. Will she be able to find out what happened to her sister without endangering her own life?
The entire time I was reading Hairpin Bridge, all I could think about was the similarities to Big Sky, based on a CJ Box novel. There were enough differences that I don't think it raises flags, but it was similar enough that I thought about it often. One thing I liked was how smart and clever Lena was about the whole thing. She planned for just about every type of scenario. Except for one. Raycevic was creepy from the first page he was introduced. I just knew that he was not an upstanding citizen. Bottom Line - I struggled with this one. There were several times when I almost put it in the "DNF" pile, but I did not. You are going to have to make your own decision about this one.

I didn’t like this book at all. The characters annoyed me. The plot felt shallow. I heard incredible things about this one, and overall, I was just disappointed.
What’s there to say?
I adored Taylor Adams’ prior book No Exit and had very high hopes. But this?! Well, it was kind of like a Train Wreck.
Way Over the Top.
Way too much going on, way too far-fetched, way too much to follow, and way too many storylines.
Simply too much too much.
That my friends is all she wrote.
A buddy read with Kaceey that left us both underwhelmed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Willam Morrow for the arc.

This book launched out of the starting blocks with a bang! And… I was all in! Then the bottom fell out, rapidly losing steam. It veered off in another direction (in fact many directions) and I truly had trouble following along.
Lena’s twin Cambry is discovered dead after an apparent suicide. Lena absolutely refuses to believe that Cambry would take her own life by jumping off a bridge.
Lena arranges a meeting with the officer who was the last to have contact with Cambry prior to her death. She demands answers and he is precisely the person to give them to her.
As previously mentioned, the storyline drifted off in so many directions, making it difficult to keep track of what the twins were living, dreaming, or imagining. And which twin was telling which story.🤪
My first read by Taylor Adams and just wasn’t a good fit for me.
A buddy read with Susanne that left us both dazed and confused!

Well..I finished it so that's something. I considered DNFing (and I probably should've, but I wanted to see if it would somehow redeem itself).
I think the premise of this was great, it just got derailed...quickly and it never saved itself. Too much was promised and too many plot holes made the plot unbelievable. Also, let's not forget the shootout/hostage situation that was way too long. I think this probably could've been at least 100 pages shorter and it possibly would've been more successful. Maybe. Probably not.
Congrats on joining the list of veteran thriller authors publishing duds in 2021, joining Riley Sager and Alex Michaelides
My issues:
- Problematic, racist commentary on the Asian community
- Obvious lack of research when it comes to the area of Montana
- Lack of editing when it comes to making sure physics matched up. A human body and a gun would not fall at the same velocity off of a bridge.
- POV switched randomly multiple times throughout the same chapter. It was hard to determine who was speaking
- A lot of plot holes
I was considering reading No Exit, but I don't think I will now.
This book will be for someone, but it wasn't for me.
