This was a new type of read for me. Any memoir/biography I've ever read was about a famous person. This is about the life of an ordinary person. But she did not live an ordinary life. This was also new for me because I had no idea there were these horrible mothers out there. I've lived a sheltered life I guess. And congrats to the author for breaking free and living life on her own terms, one day at a time.
The book was a bit scattered but overall a decent read.

This was a very difficult book to read because it was very raw and emotional and made you think about addiction, abuse, and neglect, but that's what made it so good. Having grown up with some of these same issues, it brought a lot back that I wasn't prepared for, but that's not a bad thing. A good book should make you feel something, whether something good or something bad is up to each person's own experiences, and this book did that for me. There was a whole lot of "there but for the grace of God," let me tell you.

Highly recommend - 4 out of 5 stars.

*** I would like to thank NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group and Domenica Ruta for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A very powerful memoir about a very difficult childhood, and how she persevered. Her words had a way or transporting me back to my own childhood and some of the similar experiences we shared growing up at the same time, being raised by narcissistic mothers. Highly recommended, although the first few chapters may be a tad difficult for the highly sensitive or empathetic person.

Very moving and difficult to read at times. It makes you laugh and cry in equal measure.

I found it difficult to get past the first few chapters, could just be the wrong moment, however, I did not finish.

My apologies but I wasn't a fan of this book, I couldn't get through the first few chapters. Thank you for the opportunity.

Disturbing memoir that really left me thinking when it was over. I questioned things at times but in the end I was left believing. Surprisingly funny at times.
