Such a cute book! What kind of dog do you want? What size? What color? What is their personality like?
I loved the illustrations most of all! Kids will enjoy every bit of this book. I love all kinds of dogs myself. I would take any home. This book will be fun to read with kids in a classroom or on your personal bookshelf.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital copy to read for review. I can highly recommend it!
Such a cute book! The art, done in red, black, and white, is striking and adorable, and captures the essence of dogs well. The text describes many different types of dogs, all doing not-so-desirable things that dog lovers everywhere will recognize, and has fun, sing-songy rhymes that will make this a fun read-aloud.

I loved this book! The rhymes are perfect and I love the 3-color pages. I found it hilarious and it will definitely be added to my storytime books and my favorite books shelf.
We want this book and we want a sequel. Charming rhyme scheme helps make this an easy read-aloud that will quickly lull kids into its peppy rhythm. For early readers, I think the rhyming will help them sound out what's coming next much easier. Only challenge for some adults will be on whether the potty mouth humor is appropriate for their kiddies. Otherwise, yes, I figured out how the book was going to end early on and am not disappointed with the final page.
Looking for a sweet, children's picture book read all about wanting a puppy? YOU GOT IT!
I seriously loved this sweet, little book. It's so cute and adorable, and the illustrations really make it pop. It's minimalistic, but that's what gives it it's charm.
This book goes on and on all about wanting a dog. But what kind? And why? Is it cute? So many questions! It's a wonderful book for preschoolers to have fun and giggle. I highly recommend this as a fun read.
Also, I like cats too.
Three out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
If it wasn’t for the ending this would be a 5. :). The ending is actually funny, but I can’t help myself. This book is simple and so are the illustrations but that is what makes it perfect. We want a dog? What type of dog do you want? The book describes various types in perfect rhyme and cadence, and it just works. I would use this book every time we did a pet story time. Every time!.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Jabberwocky for early access to this title.
Super cute illustrations and rhymes that made me chuckle. Excited to add this to my son's collection ESPECIALLY since we are dog people. That being said we'll take all of the dog stuff and never get a cat. ;)

My thoughts…
Cuteness galore. This is a great read-along book with young readers. The rhyming is really cute and simple that would work well for toddlers and those learning to read. It could also help adults talk about the responsibility of raising a dog. I enjoyed the red, black and white illustrations the most. And, I can tell you my dogs have been all of the dogs presented in this book. 🤣
This is a really cute book! The rhyming is a little forced sometimes but kids will love the different types of dogs in the book! Great punchline at the end, too.
This is a cute and simple rhyming book most likely best for toddlers or young children.
The story rhymes, which is great for phonemic awareness, but is otherwise simple. The graphics are visually appealing and done all in red, black and white. This kind of visual contrast is good for young eyes because it helps them discern the patterns more clearly. Plus the dogs are cute.
As you read through the story you help the narrator work through the different kinds of dogs, and what they want in a dog, or if they even want a dog at all.
Children's picture book, told in rhyme. The story starts with a simple phrase: "We want a dog." And then the rhyming fun starts... each page offers three different dog attributes. My favorite spread has the text: "One with fleas? One that thieves? One that pees on Christmas trees?" By the end, the poor pet owner-to-be might just change their mind. The illustrations are done in a red, black, and white color palette and depict many different breeds of dogs. This would be a fun read aloud for a pet-themed storytime.

This is such a cute book! I highly recommend it for anyone from a young child to an older adult. It has wonderful illustrations in just a few colors (good for babies), rhymes and humor. Take a look. You will smile.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
An absolutely adorable book with great simple but vibrant illustrations, and an easy-to-read rhyming scheme. Great for any kid from babies (awesome visual contrast, simple shapes) to early readers looking for a simple book to get started with. A little twist of an ending that all animal lovers will appreciate.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Very funky art done with a few colours, the entire book is illustrated with red, black and white, very neat. Also, bonus point for a rhyming book, making it easy to read to kids. But awww, why not dogs? Dogs are simply the best.
I loved this book. For a start, I am a huge fan of illustrations using few colours. This book uses red, white and black, in different patterns, to create a variety of effects for the different types of dog. This, and the accompanying rhyming text, help make this book really appealing. The twist at the end was great too!
This is a picture book all about dogs and the funny things that they do.
I really enjoyed the artwork here, the colors really help it pop! The dogs are all unique and you can spot different breeds throughout the book easily, thanks to the great art style. There are honestly some pages I would love to have framed on a wall somewhere since they're so eye-poppy!

With high contrast illustrations and a simple rhyming cadence, this story celebrates dogs and perhaps even cats. I think children will find this a fun read!
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of We Want a Dog.
I love dogs so I was so excited when my request was approved.
This was incredibly sweet, the rhymes are clever and the illustrations are cute. This is a great book for any child, especially one who adores dogs or any animal.
The Kindle version is poorly formatted and doesn't do this book justice.
Who wants a dog?? This is the cutest book for anyone that wants to have a dog. The colors used are brilliant on the page. The reds, blacks, grays, and white make the pages pop!! Each dog is wonderful in talking about the reasons why you should get a pet. I would recommend this book to a classroom library or a bedtime story.
A very adorable book!
The illustrations are in black and red, simple, but interesting!
The words are rhyme.
love this book!
