I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end
I‘m loving this series and can’t believe that I’m almost done. I really love Everly’s character and how much she and Grady have grown together. I loved the mystery and romance; it's the sweet balance. I loved seeing Grady open up and embrace who Everly is.
Partners in Lime is the 6th book in the Seaside Cafe Mysteries. I received this book as a giveaway from Netgalley (thanks!) and have not read any of the other books. Though the book mentions some things such as past relationships and a family curse that may have been first touched on in past books I believe this book is fine as a stand alone.
I loved the descriptions of the beautiful beaches and the cute town Everly, the main character, lives in. A "who done it" mystery with colorful characters. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Bree Baker's books.
I am always excited to open the next book in Bree Baker's Seaside Cafe mystery series. It is always a fun series full of interesting characters, and intriguing puzzles.
Trouble continues to follow Everly Swan in this sixth installment as we revisit the idyllic setting of Charm, North Carolina. The beautifully described Charm and its quirky inhabitants are a highlight as usual.
Everly becomes involved in a murder investigation when a friend becomes the prime suspect. Determined to clear his name, Everly finds herself in danger as she investigates.
The mystery is enjoyable and follows much the same pattern as Everly's previous crime solving adventures.
Everly's romantic relationship is particularly challenging in this book as she and Sheriff Grady navigate their feelings and struggle to balance their feelings with Everly's frequent risk taking.
I am never disappointed by these books, but be prepared for the romantic angst to take a front seat.
I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press in exchange for an honest review.
Another engaging installment of the Seaside Cafe Mystery series by Bree Baker! I always enjoy spending some time in Charm. The setting can't be beat and the characters are unique and relatable. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Don't forget to check out the recipes at the end!
This is hands down one of my favorite cozy mystery series. Everly's tea shop always has tea and lunches that sound divine. The town of Charm seems like it would be a quaint place to visit, even with all of the murders that seem to happen there. This time the murder of a pro surfer places Everly's friend Matt on the top of the suspect list. So, of course, she has to do what she can to prove that he's innocent. Which, in turn, puts her in hot water with her detective boyfriend, Grady. The mystery has some good twists and turns, and I can't wait to find out how the series wraps up in the final book!
Everly will have to go against the tide to crack this case!
It all seems to be smooth sailing for Everly Swan. The island of Charm, North Carolina is hosting tons of fun summer events, her iced tea shop is a hit, and best of all, she's finally dating the handsome Detective Grady Hays. But their romantic bubble bursts when tragedy strikes: a surf-pro is found murdered on the beach, killed with a theater prop.
Partners in Lime, the sixth book in Bree Baker's critically acclaimed Seaside Café Mystery series, is sure to make waves among fans of cozy mysteries! Everly is up to her old shenanigans if she not causing trouble sheds in it! We find her trying to solve this murder to save one of her friends but the trouble she finds herself in is truly unbelievable! With help from her fellow crime lovers, she turns up in trouble but always gets her killer. I am sad to see this series end but can not wait for the final book.
I really enjoyed this book from the Seaside Cafe Mysteries. This was my first book of the series, and I am really looking forward to going back and learning more about how Everly, Matt and Grady all met and how their relationships developed, and learn more about Everly's lovely two Aunts who are sometimes rumoured to have magical abilities. Everly of course goes to defend someone she cares for, and in the result is the target of the real killer. This book does end on a cliffhanger so if you can't take it, don't read it. Otherwise read and enjoy!!
I want to thank the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an e-copy of this book, in return for an honest review.
I love the Seaside Café Mystery series, it's one of the first cozy series I ever read, but sadly this instalment was my least favourite. Everly got on my nerves quite a bit, always mentioning her weight and the pounds that she's gained. This is 2022, what about body positivity and body diversity? It really ticked me off.
The mystery was well done, but I gotta admit I personally found it less compelling. I didn't really care for the victim at all. I think that's because I mistakingly skipped over book 5.
Over all though, the writing is solid and I love the setting as well as the secondary characters. The dialogue in this book always feel real and the characters really come to life. To me, this series is the equivalent of spending time outside on a beautiful spring day. Bright and refreshing! I highly recommend this series if you love cozies :)
I highly recommend the entire Seaside Cafe series for anyone who wants a light-hearted and charming read. I love hearing about Everly and her adventures - Partners in Lime was no different. I enjoyed that Partners in Lime involved Everly, Grady, and Matt. I would recommend starting with the first book if you are going to read the series. Check it out!
Bree Baker’s Partners in Lime is a solid cozy with an interesting mystery. I like the suspense, the viable suspects, and the lovely setting. But, I wish there was a lot less romantic drama and that the writing was less choppy. Furthermore, the series’ usually charming quirkiness has begun to lose its shine as some of the incidents seem forced, cheesy, and silly. This is the sixth book in the series and, although it can work as a standalone, I think you would better understand the characters and setting if you read the previous books.
The picturesque island of Charm, North Carolina is having an exciting summer with a ton of fun events. Our protagonist Everly Swan is also busy with her popular iced tea shop and a blossoming relationship with handsome Detective Grady Hays. However, tragedy soon strikes when a pro surfer is murdered. Everly’s friend and former fling, hunky paramedic Matt, instantly becomes the prime suspect. Everly quickly gets to sleuthing to help clear Matt’s name. However, there are numerous complications to her investigation: there’s a new rival fancy tea shop in town, Grady wants her to stay out of the murder investigation, and…the murderer keeps leaving her increasingly ominous messages.
The interesting mystery plot is quickly paced with some good twists and a great cast of viable suspects. I like that I couldn’t guess the killer’s identity until almost the very end. However, I wish that the big reveal was written more solidly and cohesively.
I love the wonderfully written description of Charm and small-island life. It is such a vibrant place filled with unique and fun people. I love the cast of interesting and memorable characters. I love the close-knit community and the warm feelings of family and friendship. Everly is a great and relatable protagonist. I particularly admire her bravery as well as her loyalty and dedication to her friends.
However, I wish the overall writing was stronger. The transitions between scenes can be quite abrupt. Moreover, some of the dialogue is stilted, unnatural, and info-dumpy. Everly’s interactions with possible suspects are sometimes so blunt, obvious, and nonsensical. I also got tired of Everly and Grady arguing about Everly’s snooping. These scenes are too repetitive and I am particularly bored of the romantic drama between Grady and Everly.
I usually love the series’ fun and quirky nature which really adds to the writing’s overall charm. However, many of the incidents in this book seem so contrived and silly like Everly’s incognito snooping mission to the rival tea shop and her inherited bright yellow car named Dharma which blares only one Beach Boys song.
Partners in Lime is a quick and entertaining mystery. I wish the writing was a lot stronger but I do love beautiful Charm and its interesting inhabitants.
🏄🏄🏄 ½ surfers out of 5!
Things are going well for Everly. Her tea shop is a hit, and her relationship with Grady is good. Nothing lasts forever though. She finds out there is a rival tea shop just opened. Even worse her friend and one time romantic interest is suspected of murdering a surf pro who was his former rival. The local gossip blog is complicating matters by reporting everything Everly does with their own spin. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. The setting and characters add to the charm. I do wish Everly would be a bit smarter in the future though.
I loved this beach filled cozy. It was perfect to read during these cold days. I highly recommend this book
This is book 6 in the Seaside Cafe Cozy series. It can be read as a stand alone but the interaction of the characters would be easier to follow if you've read some of the previous books. Everly is now dating Detective Grady Hays but it could blow up when his prime suspect in a murder is Everly's friend Matt. With a new fancy tea shop getting ready to open and Grady's investigation, Everly's life is getting very complicated. Will Charm Island support two tea shops is the big question and how can anyone think Matt is capable of murder. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Partners in Lime is a good title for this one, the last one, sniff sniff. I shall say no more as I am not one to over share. I will say this, I will miss Everly and Grady and the folks of Charm. There is something quite Charm-ing about the way Bree Baker aka Julie Anne Lindsay weaves local history into her Outer Banks books. I will miss the Sun, Sand, and Tea shop as this is the final book of the series. An excellent storyline in an excellent series complete with excellent recipes! Plenty of mystery, misdirection, backstory snippets and romance. All of it comes together like the different ingredients from an Everly recipe. I am definitely looking forward to making tea cakes and some bubbling basil raspberry tea.
With Partner's in Lime by Bree Baker we are back for the 6th book in the A Seaside Cafe Mystery in the fictional coastal small town of Charm North Carolina. I love everything about this mystery series from the beach town setting to the characters especially Everly and her great aunts Clara and Fran. Still giving me Practical magic vibes. And even though I normally don't like romance in my cozies I love the romance that is threaded through this series s it has slowly bloomed. And as always I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
3.5 stars - I usually really enjoy the Seaside Cafe Mystery books but this one wasn’t my favorite. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and not much of a surprise.
I absolutely adore Bree Baker's books, and this one was no exception. I loved being back with Everly Swan and the cast of characters in Charm. The murder mystery was creative, and I loved the plot twists. I cannot recommend this series enough!
Princess Fuzzypants here: I can understand why cop boyfriend Grady gets so frustrated with Everly. She is fun and charming and fairly self aware but she gets involved in murder investigations often with almost deadly results. She cannot help herself. The problem is she is not very good. She is as subtle as a sledge hammer and when she tries to blend in and spy on someone, she almost always gets caught. She does dig around and come up with information but it often, as in this book, leads her to the wrong and highly dangerous conclusion.
In this book, a world class surfer is murdered. The initial weapon is thought to be an arrow her friend Matt. It appears he and the victim had a long, complicated and very acrimonious relationship and the evidence. Is pointing, quite conclusively to him. Everly believes he is innocent and is determined to help him out however she can. And you know this is going to get her into a lot of trouble.
Grady, frustrated though he might be, concedes he is not going to change her. She is loyal to her friends to a fault which can irritate Grady when the friend she is helping is hunky Matt,. As a widower with a son, involvement with Grady brings a whole other level of concern to the blooming relationship. And then, of course, there is the pesky Swan curse. Yet, with all of these issues in the background, it seems the only thing that may force her to rethink her foolhardy actions is why someone she cares about is seriously wounded. We shall see.
As frustrating as her character can be, I still read on. That is the problem. It is still a good mystery with great characters and setting. And I suspect I will continue to do so. Four purrs and two paws up.
Another excellent edition to a wonderful series! Full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting more and enjoying each moment until the end when the killer is caught!
