My son loved this book! It reminded him of his relationship with our family dog, so it was a great read for him. It was an easy book to read for a young child and it was engaging. The characters are lovable, and their interactions are sweet. It was a great story and a good paced children's book.
Separations. They happen often in most people’s lives. It’s hard but we learn to adept. So the clever young boy learns about how it feels to be separated from his dog - his best friend. This well thought out story is one that will pull at the heartstrings of any adult who is lucky enough to get to read it. A valuable lesson everyone needs to learn. The text and graphics are superb in getting a not-so-simple message across to kids and adults alike.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
My daughter absolutely loved this book. She read most of it herself (she is 5) and I helped her with the rest. As we have a furry baby who is rather attached to my daughter, it was a perfectly cozy bedtime read in our house.
This is adorable picture book !
I think the illustrator catches the dog's eyes expressions very well! I could feel the dog's feelings inside.
Love this picture book.
A heartwarming book about the strong bond between a boy and his dog. A great book for kindergarteners.
A very enjoyable book for the younger reader. The drawings are beautiful and the story teaches how it is to have a best buddy. Nice, touching and beautiful story about friendships between the boy and a dog.
What a gorgeous book. The colourful illustrations are a joy to look at. This book tells beautifully the story about a young boy and his relationship with his dog, his best buddy. It is a perfect book for children who may be facing separation about starting school or other new situations and will be a good starting point for discussion, I think the fact that the main characters has Down syndrome is just great - we need more books like this.
Huge thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this delightful book.
Thank you NetGalley and Capstone Editions for a copy of "Best Buddies" in exchange for my honest review.
The cover of this book grabbed my attention right away with its colourful graphics and the adorable dog. The best buddies first met when the boy came home from the hospital as a baby. There were so many new smells, sounds and naps when he arrived. Buddy loved to babysit. They shared snacks, they both found car rides relaxing. They looked our for each other, when one was lost, the other found, when one was forgotten, the other remembered. There were so many vacations, celebrations, bedtime snuggles, cake and frosting - they stuck together through everything.
Then boy had to start school and a bus swallowed him up. There were tears and whining, moping and waiting - especially for that bus to spit the boy back out again. Then they would tumble with joy and not let each other out of sight. At night they tossed and turned and could not fall asleep. The next morning one of them had a bellyache and the other one couldn't eat. It was a lot of sad mixed up with sick.
Before the bus came, there were bigger than big hugs and then the boy had an idea. It was still a long day, they missed each other but they had something that smelled like their best buddy and they felt better.
This book is a wonderful story of a boy-dog duo who are the very best buddies and do everything together. It's the story of a very clever boy and his loyal dog. A story that teaches how to keep those we love close to our hearts even when we have to be apart.
This is the story of a first met, and the things done to be a best buddies. But when you're best buddies, you don't want to be apart, and the moment school time separates them, this is hard for the best buddies. So they find a way to remember the others while apart.
Such a heartwarming book and very good for kids and their best buddies. How to cope when the distance separate them and how to keep the relation manageable.
This was just adorable and made me tear up a bit thinking of how my baby daughter will have Aske, our doggo, as her best friend! Loved it so much!
I do hope they also end up as close as cake and frosting to use the phrase from the book!
Review: A helpful story for children with a close family pet and is facing their first day at school. A sweet timeline showing a dog and his boy's developing friendship over the years, until it was time for the boy to start school and leave on a big, yellow bus. Feelings about uncertainty, saying goodbye to their pet for the day, and how to make the most of it by playing with their pet as soon as they get home. A cute story that demonstrates what types of feelings might happen when going away to school.
Note: I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is my own.
Another great Lynn Plourde book! She fins the perfect characters for each of her stories and they come alive as you read. This will be a favorite in my classroom!
A dog and his boy is one of the best stories. The illustrations are sweet and kid friendly. They met when boy came home from the hospital and have been close. Their relationship is enduring thru smells, sounds, and of course naps. However, when the yellow bus swallows boy, dog's world changes.
A sweet story of friendship between a dog and a boy.
A special thank you to Capstone Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This tender story will touch your heart if you ever had the privilege of having a pet. We all know how we love our pets dearly and find it hard to be separated from them.
A cute little boy with Down syndrome is very attached to his beloved dog. They have been together since his birth. The best friends are inseparable. When it's time for the boy to head off to school both are heartbroken and yearn for each other's company. The brilliant little boy discovers a way for both to feel each other's love during the huge gap in the day when they are apart.
This book is perfect for little ones who are off to school for the first time or experiencing other changes that may occur. The illustrations are full of emotion and engaging. They enrich the text greatly. I know this story will connect with many readers of all ages. I highly, highly recommend this book.
My daughter and I adored this book. The relationship between a child and her pet is so special and this really showcased that. The storyline was so good, and the illustrations were great too.
I like the inclusion of the POV of the main character with downs syndrome. I do not think I have ever found a book that has this sort of content (I've just starting reviewing children's books and it's been a while since I have been a young reader, so this could be different now). At the very least, I can say that I've never come across a book with the main character having Downs Syndrome. Moving beyond this, I say that this book is just "awww worthy." If you're ever had a pet you're close with, you know the feeling of being away from them (no matter how long, and in this case, it's during the school day). It's the awesome feeling of returning home and your pet being so excited to have you back. This book encapsulates that feeling and would make a good read for any young person who loves their pet! Just be wary of the feels. :)
This was a super cute children’s book about having a pet as your best friend. I really thought that the storyline was cute for a child. The artwork was cute and this book shows the importance of a pet in a persons life as far as support.
A wonderful story about young boy going to school and his dog who can’t go with him. Best friends....see how they cope and make it a not so unhappy adventure.
Definitely a story I would read to preschoolers. Many have a hard time overcoming sadness and need a way to channel this sadness.
I thought the illustrations would be engaging to children. Very well done.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the perfect story to read to children who are afraid to go to school for the first time! Warning: your child may ask you for a puppy though.
A cute story of a boy and his dog who have to spend the days apart while he's at school. I love the relationship between these best friends and how the boy overcame his sadness of missing his bud by taking things that reminded them of one another. Adorable artwork and an easy story for many little boys and girls to relate to.
