I'll be honest. I've read quite a few Harlequin books and while I've enjoyed most of what I've read, I don't think I've ever given one higher than a four star rating. I also don't think I've ever read a Harlequin Heartwarming story. This book has sat on my shelf way too long. Every time I look at it, though I found the synopsis interesting, I just found reasons to never choose it as my next read. I finally picked up Where the Heart May Lead by Elizabeth Mowers and man have I been missing out. I loved this book so much, I read it all in one sitting. While some of it was predictable, there were twists at the end that I didn't see coming. This had romance, but it was so much more than just romance. It's about a girl with a troubled past who is on a journey to find a missing piece of her heart. I loved the connection between Paige and Charlie, even if it did seem sort of insta-love, which isn't usually my favorite. It also looks like there are more books set in the town of Roseley. I can't wait to read more by Elizabeth Mowers!
Unfortunately this book was a "Did Not Finish" (DNF) for me. I will give it another try at a later date. Could be my mood at the time.
I liked this book but it was a little slow at points. The characters were well written as well as was most of the plot. Interesting angle of the book. Thank you to NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
A Small Town Romance, “Where the Heart May Lead” by Elizabeth Mowers started slow, leading me in a direction I didn't expect—a little too much mystery out the gate for the heartwarming love story I wanted.
The writing was average, which is okay as long as the storytelling is above average, but neither hit the mark for me. The characters didn't come alive on the page like I'd hoped. The "Adopted Child" story probably would have been stronger had the romance been left out of it.
This book was a really fun and enjoyable read. The characters were relatable and had great depth. I definitely recommend it and will be ordering copies for my library.
A romance combined with a suspense plotline that turned out to be a complete surprise, “Where the Heart May Lead”, by Elizabeth Mowers (Harlequin), features a heroine in a secret quest and characters that connect and bond very easily with each other.
The suspense part was more interesting for me than the romance, which seemed too rushed, and the chemistry more told than shown; the easy familiarity between Charlie and Paige didn’t ring true sometimes and the dialogue felt forced.
Some characters like Lucy and Tully (Charlie’s best friend) were more compelling for me than the protagonists, but Paige’s later revealed backstory gave depth to her character.
I thought that some of the main characters’ decisions (Charlie’s new career, Paige doing mundane things despite the villain’s chase) were just thoughtless and a bit weird.
There’s a small town atmosphere and the typical good-hearted, chatty people.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Paige has not had an easy childhood. She went to live with her aunt and uncle when she was younger. She ended up giving a baby girl up for adoption over 10 years ago and does not stop thinking of her. Her aunt tells her what town her daughter is living in. While staying in the small town she meets Charlie who she grows to like. I enjoyed this book.
Paige Cartman had to lie low for ten years. She has lived with her aunt and uncle for all that time. Her uncle is dying of cancer which is devastating for her and her Aunt Joan. Joan has discovered a clue as to the whereabouts of the location of the family secret, little Lucy. Paige just wants to check on Lucy and make sure she is happy. But danger follows Paige and the family secret could be exposed.
Charlie Stillwater had a touring business which he enjoyed as he got to fly his seaplane. When he discovered the woman he loved, one of his business partners, was cheating on him with their other partner it broke his heart and his trust. But when he first met Paige everything seemed to click. Could he trust her?
Where the Heart May Lead by Elizabeth Mowers was an intense, emotional and poignant read. Paige's background resonated with my empathy feelings. I liked Charlie from the get-go. I was rooting for the two of them throughout he book. I really like this author's writing style and I look forward to more stories written by her.
