This book hooked me from the first sentence. Stevie and Jacob leave Maine for a fresh start in East Africa, where Jacob is hired as a diver for an ecotourism company. They travel from Nairobi to an island near Zanzibar, meeting a friendly couple along the way.
I loved the unique African setting, however, many problems Jacob and Stevie face could have been avoided with better safety precautions, like not sharing travel plans on social media.
While I enjoyed the book, there were plot holes that were hard to overlook.
The gripping prologue initially drew me into this book, but unfortunately, that’s where its peak ended. Expecting more of a thriller, I found the story lacking in suspense and pacing. While there was potential, the narrative felt drawn out, and the plot unfolded predictably. The anticipated twist failed to surprise me, leaving me feeling somewhat unsatisfied by the end.
It took too long for the thriller elements to manifest, and by the time they did, I had already lost interest. While I’ve heard praise for this author, this particular book didn’t resonate with me. Despite my disappointment, I appreciate the opportunity provided by NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada to read and review this book.
The prologue sucked me in and that’s kind of where it peaked. I went into this thinking it was more of a thriller, but not so much. I think there was potential, but I felt the story dragged on. It’s fairly predictable, the twist wasn’t surprising, and I felt a little unsatisfied at the end. It took a while for the thriller part of this book to happen and by then I had lost interest. I’ve heard good things about this author, so l may try again, but this wasn’t a win for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.
The plot was not very original but it was enjoyable enough, I will read more from this author.. I’m surprised this book didn’t have more buzz!
I wanted to enjoy this story, really I did. It sounded interesting and I have heard a lot of good things about this author so was excited when I was approved to read this early netgalley, but this book just wasn't for me. I was hoping for a more plot-driven book but this one is a character-driven book and I didn't like any of the characters. The story did have a creepiness to it and I enjoyed that and there were some good plot twists. Even though it wasn't a book for me, I know many who have enjoyed it and I will recommend it to some depending on what books they enjoy.
A great read by this author. I definitely recommend checking this one out!
Thank you NetGalley for providing a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
THE HUNTED landed on my Top 5 for the month of July, a vivid and intense story that I tore through in one day. Incredibly fun suspense.
A scary thriller that leaves you questioning who to trust. I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller from Roz Nay. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc of the book.
I loved this book!!! Roz Nay’s new thriller is fun, creepy, and addicting!
After the loss of her grandmother and a recent upheaval in her life, Stevie agrees to move to Tanzania with her boyfriend Jacob who has been offered a job as a diver on a remote island. However, as soon as they arrive, she has a bad feeling about it. There’s a scary hostel experience to start, and then the feeling that someone is watching her…on Rafiki island, they meet another couple, Leo and Tamsin who seem very interested in them. The story only gets more dark and dangerous from there!
The Hunted has a few of my favourite things- a beautiful setting, mysterious characters, and a twisty plot! It is a very clever and well-written story! I was routing for Stevie and Jacob the entire time and really enjoyed the reveal of their complex past! The other characters all hold secrets as well, making for an eerie, mysterious, atmospheric psychological thriller! Highly recommend!
Thanks to Simon and Schuster Canada and the author for providing me with a free copy!
I always enjoy a good book by Roz Nay and this was no exception. A dark and twisty thriller when a couple go to a secluded Island. The girlfriend feels she's being watched/stalked. They run into another couple headed to the same place. Through alternating pov we're given glimpses into secrets that start coming to the surface.
First, I'd like to thank Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the copy If "The Hunted" , in exchange for a an honest review. All opinions are my own and are in no way influenced.
First time reading Roz Nay.s' work and I was hooked.. This was an excellent read; I love nothing more than than a suspenseful read. Looking right now, for another novel written by her.
Another hit from Roz Nay. She never disappoints me with her books. I simply couldn’t put this one down and loved every single moment. I loved the dual POVs as well. It was structured very well.
This is one of my favourite authors and I love her new book. The atmospheric writing and setting contribute to the suspense in the story. Stevie and her boyfriend set out for a new life on an African island where Jacob will work for a diving company. The seclusion and the other people on the island soon cause Stevie to wonder what they have gotten into. There was definitely a big twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. I think this is Roz’s best book yet.
Another exciting thriller by the awesome Roz Nay! This book was jammed packed with twists, suspense and all the creeps that backpacking trips can sometimes entail! I really enjoyed it!
I absolutely loved this book! I found it hard to put down. I highly recommend reading it! You won’t be disappointed.
Overall I enjoyed the quick pace of this story. I enjoyed the characters and the twists. I've enjoyed all of Roz Nay's books, this one was no different. Recommend to all the other thriller book lovers out there!

A terrifying thriller with a twist you won't see coming. Great read for those who love a mystery they can't guess.
This is my third Roz Nay book that I have read now and to be honest out of the three this one was my least favourite.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing was captivating, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was flipping the pages, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I also really liked that the island setting. I will definitely be reading more books by Roz Nay.
