This book is a grand slam for any young baseball fan. I feel that baseball isn’t as popular as it was in the 90s, so it was refreshing to see a book focused on it.
It's Outta Here! by Matt Doeden takes readers on a journey through the history of MLB's long ball. The book focuses on the history, science, and players behind the homerun. Baseball fans will enjoy reading this and remembering the players who made the homerun famous. I thought the author did a great job including facts, pictures, and some of the controversies. I would recommend this book to others.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Perfect for an advanced elementary school student interested in sports, history, and numbers, this book goes in great detail in all aspects of home runs. From social issues (around baseball's integration), to physics (launch angles and exit velocities), to controversies (it's lamentable that so much of the recent history of baseball is wrapped up with PEDs), to player profiles, this book does a great job of examining home runs and baseball from many angles and through several lenses. This was a very enjoyable book and I'm interested in looking at others in the series.
