I was leery on reading this. I have been lured in with great synopses, catchy titles, and fun colors a lot lately. All for the enjoyment to stop there. That isn't the case with this book.
I'm going to make this quick.
This book was very intriguing. I found myself questioning where the book was going. Who can I trust? Who do I want to throat punch? The book kept me running un circles. I couldn't wait to get to the end.
The characters really kept me on my toes. I loved them. I loathed them. I wanted everyone to be the good one.
I will definitely read future books from this author!
“The Perfect Escape” by Leah Konen follows the perfect girl’s trip. Sort of. Sam, Margaret, and Diana are all taking a weekend to escape their messy lives and enjoy a girl’s trip. Divorces, drama, and work can wait until later. Car trouble derails the trip before they reach their cabin and they’re forced to take a night in a random small town. When Diana doesn’t show up in the morning, Sam and Margaret know something is off. As the case builds, the two realize they don’t know much about their “friend” Diana and neither is sure they’ll make it out alive.
I love a good thriller and this book definitely satisfied. Dropping three friends in the middle of a small town is interesting, but add in malicious ex-husbands and a friend with a questionable past and now it’s a story. Diana’s duplicitous identity creates real tension throughout the book and creates real danger for Sam and Margaret. Once Diana’s true identity is revealed, the book was impossible to set down.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot. I gave it four stars because it wasn’t quite as spooky as I expected and it felt like there wasn’t much amplification by the person after the friends. The ending also gave a twist that I didn’t feel like it needed, but it certainly gave me more to think about when I was done.
Thanks to NetGalley and G. P. Putnam’s Sons for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
The Perfect Escape has many, many moving parts, told in alternating POV’s. I don’t know how but Leah Konen managed to stitch it all together and tell a good story in the end. She wrapped everything up in a neat little ending. Interesting characters behaving like real shits, lying to everyone and just running rough through small town America. I will be watching for more books from you Leah Konen. Well done! Thank you for the opportunity to read The Perfect Escape NetGalley.
This was ok...it was a bit rigid in trying to work the back stories of the characters with the present day action. I found it hard to stay engaged.
A quick and easy read that is enjoyable. Three friends are out for a getaway---what could happen? with twist and turns this book keeps you reading.
I found the first half of this dragged for me as the personal things happening to the characters were introduced with quite length. Then I found myself skipping ahead to get to the mystery of what happened to Diana. The ending was very good but not sure I’d recommend this as I didn’t find the main characters that interesting.
I read this entire book in one day. The last few thrillers I read have left me feeling flat, there were times I thought this book would, too, but there was always another twist keeping me guessing. Most importantly: the end was very satisfying. This is where most thrillers disappoint, but not this one!
I highly recommend this book!
The Perfect Escape is a girls weekend gone wrong thriller. Three newish friends, who bonded over impending divorces, decide to get out of town for a girls weekend but they never make it to their final destination. Instead they wind up in a town where one of their ex is living with the women he left her for. After a few too many drinks, one friend has a reunion with her ex, one friend meets a younger guy, and the other friend winds up missing. The story quickly unravels when we learn each friend is hiding secrets; secrets that could ultimately cost them their lives.
I enjoyed that this story was told in two different viewpoints and that really helped the story unravel piece by piece. Be prepared for multiple twists, some predictable in domestic thrillers, and some unexpected ones as well. This is fast paced thriller perfect for anyone looking for an escape.
Thank you @netgalley and publishers for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! This book blew me away. I couldn’t stop reading as the plot just kept drawing me in. Three friends embark on a much needed break from their ex’s but all of them have secrets they are keeping from each other. A lost car key prevents them from making it to their original destination. Instead, they are stuck in a town and come to find out, they can’t escape their ex’s after all. A series of events leads to one of them dead and the reader is left hanging until the very end. You think you know who did it, but you really don’t. One of my favorite reads so far for 2022!
Fairly solid and enjoyable thriller but nothing too amazing or memorable. I did a lot of skimming.. there were some twists and turns that were good but I guess I wasn't connecting to the characters
I’m not great at guessing how a book will end. Sometimes I have a hunch, or maybe an educated guess based on carefully dropped clues, but there is no way I could have predicted the twists and turns of Leah Konen’s @leahkonen The Perfect Escape.
What a masterfully crafted rollercoaster Leah’s newest book is. I spent a lot of the time thinking, wait, what just happened and then frantically flipping through pages, only to find another jaw-dropping twist. Although I couldn’t have predicted the end, it was perfect. The perfect escape.
Thanks for the opportunity to review!

Meh about this one. I skimmed through the ending just to know what happened. I wasn’t super enthralled and I hated most of the characters. Toxic friendship is not a favorite trope
The Perfect Escape is my first thriller in a while and it reminded me why I love this genre. From beginning to end the answer always seems *logically* within reach but let me say I was also CAUGHT OFF GUARD.
I liked how the things that bother you SHOULD bother you, and it’s not the characters being oblivious. They have *very* good reasons for handling the disappearance the way they do, even if they’re holding back from the detectives, each other, and themselves.
While this books ushers the reader into some truly *subterranean* personal lows, it also doesn’t succumb to cynicism. The Perfect Escape understands the ways Happily Ever After can fall apart, even —especially—with the best intentions, and the way love can linger... and lead a person to wrong.
I loved it!
Note: I received an uncorrected proof so some details may have changed. So I will be a little vague. Also, it’s more fun this way!
I was hooked from the beginning and then once the twists and surprises started coming they didn't stop. As much as I enjoyed the plot and the pacing and all the lies and secrets, I just didn't enjoy the characters or the ending as much as I hoped I would. I'd still recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers.

Thanks to G.P. Putnam and NetGalley for the ARC.
I found this an irresistible read. If you are looking for a great psychological thriller, look no further.
4 stars
What could be more fun than a girls' weekend, right? When three new friends - Sam, Margaret, and Diana - plan to get out of the city for the weekend, their plans include a relaxing getaway, plenty of wine, and an escape from their failing love lives. However, the trip turns sour when they get stuck in a small town and Diana doesn't return home after a night out. As Margaret and Sam start searching for her, they realize how little they know about their friend. And each other.
Thank you to Netgalley and GP Putnam for the e-ARC of this book! This is perfect for fans of domestic thrillers or any mystery involving secrets and deception. The short chapters and changing POVs made for a quick read. I especially loved the last quarter of the book and couldn't put it down! There were a few things I saw coming, but one final twist that I didn't expect at all. The setting was nicely creepy, and the writing tense. If you're looking for a fun, psychological thriller, I recommend picking this up!
Wow..this book had me glued to my Kindle. Talk about a twisted plot. An amazing story.
When three women, recently dumped by their ex's decide to take a road trip to have an all girls weekend trip, who knew so much could go wrong?
Sam, Margaret, and Diana have been each others support system when their significant others end their relationships. But how much do you really know about someone and their secrets when going away for the first time.
Sam's husband went back to his ex-wife and Margaret is trying to move on after she her husband turned into an alcoholic while they mourned over a terrible loss. To get themselves some girl time, they decide to go up North. Until they have car trouble and end up halfway there. That's when they lose their friend Diana the following day.
The police don't know who's story is true with all of the secrets being held back. But the girls just need to find their friend.
A must read!!
Recent divorcees Sam, Margaret and Diana plan a weekend trip together to Saratoga Springs, but lose their car key during a gas station break on the way there. They have to stay over in small town Catskill, New York. That’s when the CHAOS ensues. They soon find nothing is as it seems, with an uneasiness feeling like they’ve been set-up. There’s a big buildup of mystery, the journey is absolutely insane and is so so much fun. It’s definitely one of those runaway-train-type thrillers that kept me glued to my seat. This is a girls weekend I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy! So good!
Thanks to Penguin Group Putnam via NetGalley for kindly approving an arc in return for an honest review.
absolutely loved this book and kept me excited to keep
Reading. Will read more from this author

My Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/ 5 stars
This is a multi POV thriller about three new female friends, Sam, Margaret, and Diana who quickly bond over their messy break ups. One weekend, they decide to move on with their lives and take a girls trip to the Adirondacks. However, things start to go haywire when their car key goes missing and they are forced to spend the night at a nearby cabin. Their exes start appearing and these random coincidences start to bring to light one of their secrets after one of the women goes missing the first night.
This kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going on. Every time I suspected someone, I immediately found out I was wrong. It did feel all over the place in certain parts of the story, especially around the end. However a great thriller overall to check out!
