This sweet Hallmark story has a great setting, Heart’s Landing, a historic coastal town devoted to weddings. It seems that this is part of a series. I have not read others and it didn’t hurt my enjoyment at all. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book. Evelyn works at a family wedding venue now owned by her cousin. She is starting to feel like she wants something more when she is pushed into helping the winners of a Wedding in a Week contest along with the owner of the town’s newest wedding venue, who used to be an old friend of hers. Sometimes a happy book with the expected romance is just the thing. This book hit all the right notes for me, nice setting, likable characters and a happily ever after.
Leigh Duncan brings us to Heart's Landing, the town known far and wide as "America's Top Wedding Destination." We meet Evelyn Heart who agreed to manage the Captain's Cottage while her cousin and his wife were on their honeymoon. She is baffled when the couples she meets do not confirm wedding dates right away when she learns that Ryan Court has renovated the Boat Works as a waterfront wedding venue. Her wedding coordinator Alicia has Evelyn and Ryan meet her to discuss the Wedding-in-a-Week event where one lucky couple chosen by Weddings Today gets an all expense paid wedding. Business owners donate goods and services so they get mentioned in the publication. The festivities start when they meet the lucky couple at the train station and they escort them throughout the week as they meet and choose all the aspects of a wedding such as a dress, china, tableware, and location. Both Evelyn and Ryan must play host and ambassador while wondering if their feelings are from when they were much younger or if it can become something more? Will the winning venue keep them from exploring these feelings, or will it drive them apart?
Leigh Duncan brings us along as Evelyn and Ryan help out the winning couple as they go around the town and life and fear get in the way. Will they be able to help them calm their fears especially when plans change, or will wanting to win get to them in the end? I enjoyed watching Evelyn and Ryan as they maneuvered trying to help their town, their venue, and themselves during the event. I look forward to returning to Heart's Landing and meeting new characters as I visit friendly faces.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for this privilege.
To be honest, I love anything to do with Hallmark so I just had to read this story. What a wonderful, sweet story with love blooming throughout. Thankful to NetGalley for allowing me a copy of this title.
Heart's Landing is where every bride imagines she could spend her big day! I wish this were a real place, just so I could go renew my vows. Evelyn and Ryan are both originally from the wedding town, and each is back and now running one of the main wedding venues. They are competing against each other for business, but at the same time are having to work together to help out a couple that is struggling with their happily-ever-after. Will their proximity and similar goals help to kindle a relationship...or will it be strictly business? This was a really cute read, and I can't wait to see it turned into a fun summer classic movie!
Set in Heart’s Landing, a top wedding destination, Evelyn Hart is managing the Captain’s Cottage while her cousin Jason and his new bride Tara are away on their honeymoon. The Captain’s Cottage is a well-known wedding 💒 venue in Heart’s Landing and has been for more than fifty years.
Unfortunately for Evelyn, there’s a new competition in town: Ryan Court, Jason’s childhood friend has bought an abandoned boat factory at the marina called the Boat Works and plans to open the waterfront property as a wedding venue.
A lot of work had gone into restoring the boat factory and it had taken him a year to complete it. Ryan’s high school teammate, Norman Hawk who’s an electrician is helping out with the wiring.
With Ryan’s savings exhausted he has to start hosting weddings real soon or he’d have to start making mortgage payments.
Alicia Thorn, Captain’s Cottage Event planner calls for a meeting between Ryan and Evelyn, and JeanMarie, owner of Statue Park to discuss the Wedding-in-a-Week event.
A reputable magazine called *Weddings Today* runs a Wedding-in-a-Week contest every year inviting engaged couples to enter. The winner gets an all-expense-paid wedding. Captain’s Cottage has been named America’s Top Wedding Destination and as such they get to host the event.
Business owners in Heart’s Landing are expected to participate by donating their goods and services. Ryan’s Boat Works has been chosen to participate in this year’s Wedding-in-a-Week competition.
This year the selected business owners will provide three choices to the bride and groom and the winner will feature in a national magazine. Evelyn who has assisted Jason with the contest before gets to handle the contest herself this year. Moreover, she been hoping to hand more responsibilities besides handling the books and inventory.
As it happens, JeanMarie can’t participate because a large tree fell on her property and she may not get the three removed in time to hold a wedding. That leaves Captain’s Cottage and Boat Works.
Ryan and Evelyn are both eager to have the winners of the contest choose their venue for their ceremony and reception. As they compete against each other they can’t deny the sparks that fly between them.
This heartwarming story is a fresh mix of romance, friendship, love, and family. It includes a recipe for Slow-Braised Lamb Sauce Apricot Madeira Sauce.
I really enjoyed this book—it is a light and breezy read. Definitely recommend.
Thank you to Leigh Duncan, NetGalley, and Hallmark Publishing for the ARC of this book.
A Waterfront Wedding by Leigh Duncan is a wonderful, fell-good, and modern romance that is the third book in the Heart’s Landing series.
I have enjoyed the previous two books in this collection, so I jumped at the chance to visit this adorable and heartwarming town again.
This time we visit Captain’s Cottage, a quaint and picturesque wedding venue within the town is one of a few establishments owned by local inhabitants, this one owned by the family of Evelyn Heart. A newer establishment refurbished for weddings by local inhabitant, Ryan is also thrust into the limelight when it becomes a competitor to the Captain in trying to win the affections of an engaged couple. Both Ryan and Evelyn hope to win the competition of being chosen to host the highly publicized wedding, as it will be great publicity for their own respective businesses. But of course, only one will win....As the competition heats up, one-time friends from the distant past will come to terms with past occurrences and possibly rekindle a spark that has been flickering under the radar all along.
I love the enemies to friends to lovers trope. Whether it is by competition, misunderstandings, or by other means if it is executed properly. Ms. Duncan has done it again with this team. I loved seeing the progression between the two. Both have great chemistry and play off of one another well.
I really enjoyed their respective journeys, and I also enjoyed the ending.
I look forward to the next book in this series.
5/5 stars
