This story was adorable! I loved the illustrations and all of the dinosaurs were so cute. I loved that Norman was small and shy but became best friends with the big, loud dinosaur in the class. My downloaded copy of this story was a little hard to follow because the pictures did not correlate with the connecting sentences. If the sentence was about Norman stacking the stones, the connecting picture showed him kicking the ball over the other dinosaurs' heads. Other than that, I thought this story was very cute and a great message to send to children that we all have our own strengths and weaknesses that we can use to compliment our friends strengths and weaknesses and work together to make magic!
The story of the first day of day care for Norman and how shy and nervous he was. I loved the contrast between small Norman and big Jake. I loved how they became friends and ended up doing a magic trick together at the end of the book. The pictures were well done, very colorful. The kids liked hearing a story about a shy kid.
It's Norman's first day at daycare and he's feeling a little shy. But he soon discovers that others feel like that sometimes too, even though they might not seem like it. And even thogh he might usually be shy, he finds out that there's courage inside him too. A lovely story with cute illustrations (of dinosaurs!). 4 Stars
Norman's First Day at Dino Day Care is a delightful book which explains to children it is ok to be shy especially in new places. It's beautifully written and illustrated.
I read it to my 4 year old son and we both loved it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my ARC.
Excellent lesson and message in the story about overcoming shyness and being courageous in new settings. Wonderful variety in the characters to also demonstrate that we shouldn't judge by how someone or something looks. Excellent illustrations to accompany the story.
Okay, this is absolutely ADORABLE. I loved Norman, and how his teacher was encouraging and helpful, and the other kids were friendly even though he was awkward and shy. The ending of his courage being hidden inside of him was perfect. I loved this!
The first day of pre-school can be a scary thing for some youngsters. The book, Norman’s First Day at Dino Day Care may allay those fears.
Norman is a very shy dinosaur. So shy that he has become very good at hiding. Behind rocks, in trees, and anywhere else he pleases. Until one day he meets Jake who shares the same fears. Together, Norman and Jake learn to conquer their fears and find out that meeting new people and learning new things isn’t so scary after all.
I really enjoyed Norman’s First Day at Dino Day Care. The illustrations are so adorable, with colorful and cute dinosaurs.. The storyline is simple but the message that it conveys is so important for children — that meeting new people and learning new things can be fun and that it doesn’t hurt to try. A delightful book that every parent with pre-schoolers should have. Five lovable stars.

This is an adorable picture book about a dinosaur named Norman who’s new at day care. He’s shy and scared of interacting with the other dinosaurs in his class, but he slowly comes out of his shell and makes friends!
This was so cute and I liked the simple art style as well as the design of each of the dinosaurs. They all looked really different, which helped to differentiate them as characters. The art style was simple but also expressive and colorful which worked really well for the story.
I think this picture book is a great way to teach kids a little bit about how it’s okay to be shy or have other difficulties interacting with people, but you can also learn to interact with others and get help from friends, .
A sweet story about a very shy dinosaur and how he has to find his courage and learn to appreciate who he is.
This book was adorable. It follows a little dinosaur on his first day of daycare. He's shy and hides from everyone, but through new friends, he learns to be himself. The art style was precious and I loved that the theme and moral didn't minimize who Norman was or force him to not be shy anymore in order to fit in. This will be perfect to help kids not sacrifice who they are to be friends, and instead find a different way to be comfortable when entering a new environment. It also will be good for kids who may not know how to include the shy kid in their classroom. Instead of forcing them out of their comfort zone, the child can reach out to them and learn more about them.
Norman, a very tiny shy dinosaur, is extremely anxious and worried. It's his first day at Dino Day Care and he is very apprehensive to go. What will it be like? Who will be there? Will the other dinosaurs accept him and like him?
Too small and fragile to solve these emotional feelings Norman does a disappearing act. He hides to make himself invisible. This aspect of the story is fun for the reader because the book turns into a search and find book. Kids will love trying to locate Norman as he tries his best to hide in various places throughout the Day Care.
Deep down inside Norman really wants to be found and to become part of the group but he feels so uncomfortable and shy. Thankfully his teacher, Miss Beak encourages Norman:
“I really want to join in, Miss Beak, but I feel shy.”
“It’s okay to be shy,” Miss Beak replied.
“It’s a special part of who you are.”
“Really?” Said Norman.
“Absolutely,” Miss Beak replied. “And I wonder if this afternoon we can discover what other amazing qualities you have hidden inside.”
His teacher pairs Norman with Jake, a loud and boisterous dinosaur, for a talent show. Norman is surprised to find out that Jake gets nervous too and a lovely friendship ensues.
The illustrations are amazing. They are playful, full of rich detail and fun. They are sure to bring smiles as the story is read. This is the perfect book for kids that are transitioning into day care or school. The message is both inspiring and positive. Kids will learn that it's just fine to be who they are. It's a very valuable life lesson to learn at a young age. I highly recommend this book.
Norman's First Day at Dino Day Care is a wonderful book about a shy dinosaur going to daycare for the first time. Norman is a shy, clever, and sensitive dinosaur overwhelmed by new situations. At first he hides, but he learns how to participate and make new friends. The illustrations are beautiful and whimsical and the content is excellent. This would be a great book to reassure a nervous child about going to daycare or school.
Thank you North South and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
Norman's First Day at Dino Day Care is such a sweet book that showcases that it's okay to feel scared and for people to have different talents and gifts. It displays well that various emotions and feelings that can come from everyday tasks, and finding people in your life that help you face your fears and find imaginative ways to showcase who you really are! Loved this one!
This was a cute story about being shy. I love how Norman was able to accept his shyness but also find the courage to make friends. Loved it! Definitely recommned it to all my quiet and shy students.
Review: A helpful story for children who may be shy and need help feeling comfortable in a new setting or meeting new people using colorful dinosaurs! The illustrations of toddler-esque dinos are relatable and show everyday activities found in a daycare environment. Norman, the tiny dinosaur, also learns not to judge a someone based on looks.
Note: I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is my own.
Thank you for the chance to read this children's book in exchange for an honest review. I thought that this book was very nicely illustrated and the plot was poignant and relatable to young readers. I think that everyone in their lifetime has dealt with feeling shy or embarrassed, especially in new environments. This book reflects that feeling in a way that doesn't necessarily say that these feelings are BAD but that they are normal and can be remedied by the inclusion in the positive group.
I think the illustrations are the shining aspect of this book. They're really cute!
Little ones are going to love this book. It features adorable brightly colored illustrations of various dinosaurs attending daycare. The star is little Norman, a tiny dinosaur who is "really good at hiding". Children will enjoy seeing all the places Norman finds to hide as the day passes at daycare.
This was a really cute book to read to a child that might be nervous about starting a new school. As a military family, we move often so my son has attended 3 different elementary schools. This last move, the school year had already started so he definitely stood out in class as being the new kid. He was incredibly nervous and hid in the back of his classroom for the first few days. Then a little boy came up to him and told him he liked his Star Wars shirt and they've been best buddies ever since. I will definitely buy a copy of this book to read to my children to remind them to reach out to the new kid and for when we inevitably move and they become the new kids again.
It’s Norman’s first day at daycare....he’s so shy, he makes himself invisible.
What a valuable lesson on overcoming ones fears.
Definitely a story for a young child experiencing shyness and fear upon going to day care or preschool. I would definitely read this to my preschool age children.
I did feel that the illustrations got a bit busy though I did like them.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
Soooooo cute! I downloaded this and read it for the first time out loud and I honestly got a little teared up at the line “it doesn’t mean my fears are small”. Such a good message about capitalizing what you’re good at, even if it’s hiding!
