Unfortunately this book just was not for me. I wish I loved it more because I truly thought I would. However I do not think that it was the book, I just think I was in the wrong head space. I plan on starting this book again some day and I hope I can enjoy it as much as everyone else seems to!
3.5/5 stars
This was such a fun read. The idea is so creative and original. What self-proclaimed book nerd doesn’t want a book about an entire dimension where books and their characters are alive?! Because this is such a new and fresh idea, there was a lot of world-building in the book. I wish the character development was a bit deeper and that some loose ends were tied up at the end. Goodreads says this is the first book in the Zweeshen Chronicles though so hopefully there will be a second book that can tie up some of those loose ends. Altogether though I enjoyed the book and would read more from this series if/when they come out.

*This is an overdue review.
Unwritten is about a young girl, Beatrix, who can hear whispers coming from the books. Then she was thrust into the realm of books, Zweeshen, wherein she discovers it is in the middle of turmoil. To help restore peace and stop whoever is destroying the book world and its characters, Beatrix must first face the monster within Zweeshen.
I like to commend the author for her very creative world-building and unique story writing. I like how interactive the main character is to other characters, and continues to develop throughout the book, making it enjoyable to read.
I rate this 4 out of 5 stars. I find the pacing is too fast, that is why I have to re-read few pages back to understand the next scene(s).

I am so torn on this book because the premise was so good and I really enjoyed the first half of the book. Then the second half felt like so much happened in so little time. A far different pace from the first half which was slower and gave depth to the world. This book would certainly have benefited from ending on a cliff hanger earlier and then giving us the rest in a second book. I would have loved to see that instead of just how jammed packed everything was because I wanted to know more about the characters during those events. All the main characters had so much going for them that I wanted to know more rather than just have a rushed plot to have something happen. This review is all over the place just like my feelings and I am so sorry for that.
This one was really interesting. A book within a book really with some great magic and adventure. The author did a wonderful job bringing this world to life and I can not wait for the next one. It will draw you in from the first page and it won't let you go until the last. Fantasy lovers will die hard love this one.
This book is a bookworms dream come true!
A misfit that can hear books then falls into a whole new world inside of one! I absolutely loved reading this book and I partly wished I could fall into it myself!
This book resonated with me so much and how the author uses real life problems to teach us that heroines come in all shapes sizes and races.
I thought this book was amazing and I couldn’t put it down.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read an early release
I am really upset that I couldn't finish this book. I went in with really high expectations and this book disappointed me.
The story was really interesting. The main character Beatrix had the power to talk to books and books talked back to her. She had a relationship with books that we readers dream about.
This book gives the experience of having the power to go inside a book and embark on an adventure. If that isn't the best thing then I don't know what is.
Unwritten could've been an amazing book if the writing had more depth in it. It also felt a bit over done. There was very little world building, no proper description. At one point I was imagining characters moving around on a blank page and that scene was actually important and its surroundings were not described well.
The characters, to be honest, didn't feel real. Especially the male character. He had the whole brooding, gorgeous thing going on, kind of reminded me of Will Herondale, but a watered down version.
I DNFed this book after reaching the 30% mark. I just couldn't force myself to continue. I tried. The first time I read it I stopped at around 11%. I decided to give it a second chance and pushed myself to read as much as I could. I don't usually DNF books. This is my first DNF in years and I feel so conflicted with myself that I couldn't finish it.
I loved this!!!! The characters were so so intriguing and the plot never made more bored in the least
This book was BREATHTAKING. While some fantasy books either don’t do enough worldbuilding or do too much of it, “Unwritten” did it just perfectly. I fell into the world so quickly and never wanted to leave. Readers will adore William and definitely connect with Emma’s realness. Such a fun read and a beautiful cover!
*Forgot to download so ended up downloading it.
The cover speaks to me as a reader. I was surprised that the story had the same feel as the cover. Which made this a great book. I wasn't a fan of the main character. I didn't feel like I could connect hat easy.
Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this book.
I absolutely loved this. I did take me a little bit to really get into it- there were some frustrations in the beginning with things not really being explained- but the more I read the more magical this became. I really want to read more in this world!
Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the e-Arc! My rating is in star form and will be included with this review. I may go back to more extensive reviews in the future, but while I am catching up on everything, they will continue to be stars only. Thank you so much!
This book was a good read! Beatrix is such a compelling character. Reading about her didn't get boring, and I consistently found my self interested in the story, plot, and characters.

Absolutely loved this cover 😍 so gorgeous 💕
This story is set in the world Of Zweeshen, where books and libraries and authors rule the world.
The book is so fascinating it was like reading one of your best dreams 😍 and appreciate it.
I enjoyed the concept very much and loved the plot.
The world was also very detailed so I connected with it very easily. I just never wanted to end this book!!
Absolutely loved this!
This book was whimsical, magical, fantastical, and let's be honest. It's every book lovers dream. It focuses on how every single action, no matter how small, can change everything, and how every action matters. The writing was lyrical and beautiful, adding to the world building immensely. It makes you want your own adventure, highly recommend. My criticism is that many questions seem to be left unanswered so the end doesn't feel as satisfying as it could have.

I love books and I think this story is pretty cool, especially how it starts off with, although Beatrix doesn't seem to fit anywhere, she at least has books that whisper to her and love her. That would be a lovely dream to be able to hear books! After her grandpa dies, Beatrix learns there is even more to her than she knew and she is whisked away to Zweeshen and the great mystery of who she is is revealed plus there is a cool mysterious letter from her mother who left so long ago.
Zweeshen is really neat too and I enjoyed all the mash ups of technology and magic that made up the city and how Beatrix got to meet characters from books that she loved while still searching how to decode the letter. Lots of action occurs and villains pop up too, including the Charmancer (an awful person who destroys books!).
I am glad I got a chance to read this and I hope I get the chance to read the next one too so I can keep traveling with Beatrix.
DNF at 25%.
This story had a lot of potential and the idea behind it is amazing! That being said I feel like the book suffers because of the world building. Nothing is ever really explained to you and when it is, it makes no sense or the characters act all cryptic even when it’s a seemingly simple explanation.
Our main character, Beatrix, is hated by her peers at school and can’t think of why except she’s short and has curly hair?? What? She also has something called a Furie inside of her. It’s mentioned almost constantly but no one has yet explained why it’s there, what it does, what it is, etc except that she has a magic protection from her Grandpa around her that makes people forget when the Furie arises and uses magic. Also her grandpa uses magic but that’s just brushed off and never given any gravity or explanation even though she lives on present day Earth.
Speaking of her family, her dad is literally a cartoon villain twirling his mustache. He has grandpa cremated immediately and has the funeral home dispose of his ashes. Then he orders the nursing home to BURN his belongings. One of the nurses is apparently aware of Beatrix and feels for her but still does nothing to stop the others from throwing away grandpas stuff.... Geez.
Again, I only made it 25% in so maybe there were explanations waiting for me but I just couldn’t bring myself to care for any of the characters at all.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher of this book for providing me a copy to review. All opinions for this book are my own.
This one just didnt hit home with me. It sounded so interesting and the concept as a whole was definitely unique but I found myself uninterested as I kept reading and thats why it took me so long to complete. im entirely unsure how to rate this as there were aspects I admired and enjoyed but I feel like this book wasnt for me.

Unwritten was such a fun book to dive into. In it, you will meet Beatrix. She is around 16 years old and completed devoted to her grandfather. Until the day that he passes away, which leaves her completed and utterly devastated. He was her person and now she's all alone. I mean, she has her dad but they aren't close and I just felt bad for her.
At least she was left a mysterious box and letter. She also has some cool magic because books whisper to her. Oh man. If that happened to me? Well, I would probably freak out for like a hot second.. but then want to hear all the whispers all the time. I just think that would be so cool.. unless I was trying to sleep.
Her world also gets a bit stranger once three strangers discover her magic... which was pretty well hidden until recently. Entering into this magical world, I had no idea what was going to happen to her. Especially with all the strict rules/laws that she isn't used to. So in a way.. she's like Harry Potter. The chosen one to save everyone in this new place but finds herself in all kinds of trouble trying solve riddles and such.
It was definitely interesting in some ways but once books go the chosen route.. I will automatically think of Harry Potter. Other than that, this was just a lot of fun to read. I can't wait for the next book because of how realistic the characters actually were. No one was perfect and everything just kind of sucked me in. I hope the sequel is amazing!
Unwritten was alright. I enjoyed the world-building quite a bit, but the main character, as well as most of the other characters were a bit off to me.
