I loved this book! It teaches kids about the ABC, animals, and anatomy at the same time. There are also cute little idioms on every page that have to do with eyes and an explanation of what each one means. The illustrations are colorful and eye-catching. My favorite illustration was the one with the various colored frogs. They included some unusual animals I had never heard of such as the quoll and tarsier. A great nonfiction read for kids and adults alike!
This alphabet book is different than any other I have seen. It focuses on the eyeballs of different animals and how they are used. I especially liked the close up images. It was also nice they they did not focus on only common animals. Nicely written book.
The duo of Jerry Pallotta and Shennen Bersani have done it again! This team has collaborated on a number or gorgeous books - and this one is no exception.
The Eyeball Alphabet Book is just that - an ABC picture book about animal eyesight. Each page has a breathtaking, colorful illustration of the chosen animal, with an accompanying fact. The text on each page is short and written in simple language suitable for young readers. As bonus material, each page features an eye-related idiom with an explanation (also a great way to tie this into the curriculum of elementary students).
I cannot say enough about Shennen Bersani's illustrations on this one. They really make the book whole. Some of them you will SWEAR are actual photographs.
Great for kids in PreK - 3.
Thanks to Charlesbridge and Netgalley for an early copy to review.
This was a cute book! It showed pictures of different animals eyeballs, gave a grief description of the animal and had a bonus idiom on each page. Such a good book for growing, inquisitive minds!
Well put together, this alphabet primer features a different animal for every letter of the alphabet (with a bonus extra one for you to find), and two things on the page – one, a fact about the animal's eyes, and/or vision in general, and two, an idiom featuring eyes or sight or suchlike. Very seldom do the idioms match with the animal or its text, but that's of little concern. What sells the book is its stupendous artwork, the best of which just pops off the page in a 3D manner. Compared to that, perhaps the factoids about animals' eyes are quite a peculiar niche for the book to be in, and I always quibble with such volumes when they don't give a page to explain evolution so interested kids can find out how and why the eyes are so different. Still, for a wonderful look, an interesting take on eye biology and a great variety of animals, poses and facts, this does win out.
The Eyeball Alphabet Book is a stunning and informative ABC book! Each page features a colorful, photo-realistic illustration of a different creature and explains something about their eyes, whether it be a unique function, size, etc. This book would be excellent for early elementary school students.
Thank you Charlesbridge and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
