Yvvvone is a force that’s funny and insightful. She allows you to recall how she learned to surrender to the everyday and find humor in the Lord. She admits to a bit of screaming and fighting trying to avoid the harsh truths . A truth that we are not here without purpose and we all need a spiritual path. Hers is very funny and not without its share of tears. I love the fact that her faith has no halos . It’s a down to earth approach that is not preachy just common sense as she sees it. Her adventure toward the higher power has pace , we aren’t allowed to wallow needlessly but arrive at our own conclusions. A very heartfelt journey.
At first, I would like to thank Netgalley and Worthy Books for allowing me to review this book. Keep in mind that my review, however, is my true opinion on this book.
“Bamboozled by Jesus - How God Tricked Me into the Life of My Dreams” by Yvonne Orji is a very interesting book and was nothing like I was expecting. And I mean that in a good way. It was way more giving and way more inspiring than I was expecting.
This is not a self help book, and it is not intended to be. Nevertheless, you can learn a lot of things from this book. And you will probably realise a lot of things as well.
And I love how the humor is in this book. There are some very hilarious parts in this book. Yvonne Orjis take on the Bible-stories and her faith is very inspiring and interesting.
This is furthermore a personal book with Yvonne Orjis own experiences with God and through life. She has been through a lot of things and has a lot of stories to tell. I loved reading those, and how she uses her stories to give the readers some tips and some guidance in life. She seems very uplifting and as an extremely joyful woman.
Are you ready to realise how much you have been bamboozled by Jesus? Well get ready, buckle up and get ready to read this book.
Yvonne Orji is one of my favorite comedic actresses. As she states, this is not a self-help book, but this is a 'here's what worked for me' story.
It's fun to read about someone so sassy, and so full of love for God. Yvonne makes no qualms with her faith and her honest love to the Bible. Her adding a modern commentary on traditional bible stories had me giggling late into the night.
Thank. you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book is about countering imposter syndrome and striving for an incredible life, backed up by the knowledge that you were put on this earth to achieve your birthright of greatness. Keep your head held high boo, you deserve nothing but the best. Orji reminds us not to compromise on our career, home, and relationship ideals.
My favorite part of this book was the stories from the bible, which were expressed in a humorous way that showed their relevance to our everyday lives - Orji tied in a parable with each of her life lessons.
I’m a huge fan of Yvonne Orji, whether it’s in her stand-up, or her role on the HBO series Insecure, so I jumped at the opportunity to review her new work! Her child of immigrants perspective in her comedy is of course relatable to me. Watching her on Insecure for the last five years has been life changing - seeing a Black woman thriving in a high position in a corporate setting, and seeing a Black woman be loved, especially by Black men and other poc, has been so healthy for me. Thank you to NetGalley for sending me the e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
