Thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing me this arc via Netgalley!
I wanted to like this book so much. It had a cast of diverse characters and what looked like an interesting plot, but I just didn't like it. Maybe I've just gotten too picky with my romance novels, but this felt so bland and I was bored almost the whole time.

Darya is a dedicated ER doctor. Anthony is in a band with his brother Carlos. One night while on stage Carlos passes out. When Anthony meets Darya the sparks and chemistry are instant, so instant that he ask her to be Carlos doctor on tour. The more time these two spend together the more they realize they have in common. Add in the relationships they have with their siblings and tour mates and you have a great read. I truly Enjoyed the journey this book took me on. This was a great read and I would Definitely read another book by this author.

Big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book! This did not affect my review.

Sometimes, I'm in need of a bad, smutty contemporary romance. Set to Music seemed to be just that. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the story isn't bad at all! Darya is a strong female protagonist who sees herself as quite plain. However, she differs from many other main characters in the fact that she has her priorities straight, and her looks aren't one of them. I love that about her! She's also witty, loving and responsible: she's basically what I aspire to be (with the exception of one very important choice she makes, I would never do that, but to each their own!).

Anthony is.... Wow. I'd almost say he's the Rhysand of contemporary romance. However, I need a few more rereads of Set to Music to confirm that. And those rereads will definitely happen, because I REALLY enjoyed this book. It's been a while since I couldn't put down a contemporary romance.

Iranian culture also played a large role in Set to Music. I don't know if it's relatable for Iranian readers, as I'm not Iranian myself, but I definitely noticed some similarities with my Armenian culture. I loved being able to relate on a different level with a main character, for example because of the high expectations of parents and the fact that taking care for your family is expected of you. That improved my experience of reading this book a lot!

In short, Set to Music is a contemporary romance in which both main characters overcome many things, and find love and support with their friends and family. I couldn't put it down, and I'm sure many others will have trouble doing so as well!

TW: cancer

I really wish I would have received a trigger warning for this book. Let me preface this by saying that my mom is battling cancer and is not doing well. This plot line hit way too close to home and I had a hard time reading these parts. Because of this, I feel like my rating of the book was swayed by this. I did not find it realistic that a daughter would take off to travel around the country with a band she barely knew while her mother is diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and is undergoing chemo. Leaving her sister holding the bag while she pursued a rock star lifestyle and a relationship with a band member just left a very poor taste in my mouth. I completely understand the pressure to earn enough money to pay for treatments, but I just couldn't get over this and it hindered me enjoying the rest of the book.

While I had a hard time with the majority of the plot, there were some things that I did enjoy:
- The Iranian culture, food, language that was woven throughout the book. I wish we would have seen more of Anthony and Carlos' family/Mexican culture though.
- The subplot of Carlos and Mike's relationship. (although it did not feel resolved at the end of the book)
- The glimpse into the touring rockstar life.

There were things that I really liked about this (the diverse characters, the family dynamics, strong career-driven woman who doesn’t fall into the “my life is falling apart until a man comes to put it back together” trope). I found myself struggling to get into it (partially because of the switch back and forth between the two story lines and tones). The way that the introduction to the hero and the introduction of the struggle of the mother were placed, it felt choppy and did not entice me to keep reading. I think it might have worked better if the heroine was introduced, the struggle with the mother was introduced in order to build up the backstory and circumstances of the heroine, and then the hero was introduced.

Once I got into the story, I did end up enjoying it. I was slightly annoyed by the lack of good communication between the two main characters, but I did feel like I was connected to the characters and the story by the end (even shedding a tear or two).

This was a very good story. A young doctor goes on tour with a rock back to earn extra money she thinks her mother will need when she is diagnost with cancer. She falls in love with the lead singer while monitoring his younger brother for a medical condition. Anthony shows her a world she had no idea of. Carlos is a cocky guitar player who likes to party but needs to be careful of his heart and also has a secret he is not sharing with Anthony.
I enjoyed all the twists and turns of the story, It was heartbreaking when the mother was so sick. I just cried my eyes out. It was enjoyable to read and I recommend it

Set to music tells the story of rock star Anthony and emergency doctor Darya. Although their worlds are very different, with Anthony jetting off around the world on music tours and being chased by fans and the press, while Darya works hard in the hospital, when they meet, there's instant chemistry between them.
I liked both Anthony and Darya and thought that they worked well together. They had a number of things to deal with before they could finally be happy. Both their professional life and their cultural differences seem set to try and keep them apart. Even so, it's obvious that they do belong together.
I really enjoyed this romance. I have to admit that I know little about Iranian culture, so it was interesting to read a book where this was a large part of the storyline. There was also more going on here than a simple romance. Both characters have things to deal with from their past as well as more issues in their day to day life. I also like the way that, despite the differences in their cultures, it was clear that there was much between them that was similar.
I'd be really interested in any more in this series if it is a series. It's clear that there's a story to tell with Anthony's brother, Carlos and I wonder if Darya's sister also has a story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

3.5 stars

I definitely enjoyed the exploration of how family members are affected by the sickness of a loved one and how this dynamic is shaped by the cultural background and the family's past. The pain of seeing a loved one suffer hit close to home with me and the author did a great job making me empathize with the pain, guilt and responsibility Anthony and Darya felt.

The romance between Darya and Anthony was nice, they obviously had good chemistry, adored each other and I liked the meaningful conversations they had. I liked both characters, so following their (love)story was nice, Anthony also made it very easy by being the perfect, supportive book boyfriend.
Since these two had a lot of conversations about their cultural backgrounds and Darya brought her Iranian heritage up frequently we got to know their cultures a little bit and I liked the very natural way it was done. (There was also this very relatable situation where Anthony wondered if he should've done research about Iranian cuisine when he joined Darya's family for dinner - it had me chuckling because been there, done that.)

I had a bit of a hard time in the beginning of the story because there were quite a few situations were I was just too embarrassed for the characters and had to put the book down for a bit.
My main gripe with this book is the ending though, it was cute for what it was, but it also was too much in too short of a time. Additionally it left two of the big problems that were brought up consistently throughout the story completely unresolved.

This book was fine. I was drawn to it because I was in the mood for the fantasy of falling for a rock star and the diversity. I really appreciated reading about an Iranian heroine especially since I cannot think of another recent romance I have read featuring one. Darya and Anthony are both pleasant characters who care about their families, are successful in their careers, and are not the types to rush into a romantic entanglement, I love a good flow burn romance but found myself mostly bored with their interactions. Much of it could be that I never got a real sense of who they were outside of their careers and roles in their families. Anthony read like a card board cut out. There was little drama in their relationship while Darya went through some emotional life events in her family. I found some aspects and some seemed thrown in like a scene in the end when she sees her father. This book did not scratch the rock star itch I was feeling but it did give me something unusual to read which was refreshing.

Could a book be any more perfect?

As a Persian girl myself, I never come across a romance novel with my culture in it, let alone the main character being Persian! So you can see how excited I was to discover that Darya Zameeni is the main character of this fantastic book and that the love interest is Mexican. It made my heart go pitter patter with love for the characters before I even began reading.

This book will forever be special to me for so many differnet reasons. I love seeing my culture being represented in a romance novel. I love seeing an Iranian woman fall in love with a Mexican man. I love the portrayal of the importance of family and the respect that comes with it. Being in the culture brings you insight that other readers may not have and I just connected more with it because of that and I'm so glad I got to have that experience.

I'm in love with this book. I'm in love with Darya and Anthony. My heart is full.

Well I'm A little conflicted about this book I loved most of it but when we get to the very very sad part, which is towards the end, the author goes into very detailed information, which makes everything even sadder lol I've been known to not even read a book if I know its going to be sad, unfortunately it sticks with me for ever! I don't want to give any spoilers that's why I'm A little vague. This book was good but very sad towards the end! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

A new author to me, but a story about rockstars, so I read it. I was pleasantly surprised by the unique storyline. I adored the inclusion of familial traditions of the main characters. The sense of family is an integral part of this story.

Darya is a newly graduated Doc, working in a busy ER. Anthony is a Lead singer and is used to getting his way. They meet in her ER when his brother is brought in after collapsing on stage. Anthony makes her an incredible offer; to secure her financial future, she agrees to travel with the band. Will their budding romance be a long-distance one?

I had never read this author before but it was an awesome story and I highly recommend it. Its a rock star romance but so different than any others I have read before. It is not a light reading book. It will make you cry and make you think and even make you laugh.

Now I feel this story should come with a warning so I think before reading this story you need to know it deals with the heroine's (Darya) mother having Lung Cancer. How they fight it but also the long process of watching someone you love dying. If this is something that you don't want to read about I feel its important that you know it is a major plot point in this story.

The story features the Latin rock band Teneura, an extremely popular band and its headed by Anthony and Carlos and some of their friends. The story opens one night when Carlos has brought to the ER and he meets Darya who finds he has a heart areythmia. That night she also meets Anthony, his hot older brother.

Darya is one tough cookie and is a resident at the hospital in Los Angeles. She is Iranian and she meets Latin Hottie Anthony when he is concerned about his brothers heart condition. Anthony falls hard for Darya and asks her to come on tour with them so she can monitor Carlos. She only agrees after finding out how sick her mother is and that she needs the money to take care of her family.

A majority of the story was fun. It centers on her getting to know the band, falling for Anthony and the friendships she forms with Teneura. Interspersed with that is her love for her family and mother and the struggle her family is going thru.

This story is about family, The family we are born to and the family we form and who love us. Its about friendship and being there for your friends and supporting them as they confront the struggles and the life they want to live. Its about moving on and growing up and fighting for the kind of future you want. Its about life, love and the relationships we form that make us who we are.

This was an extremely well written story with a wide set of characters with integrity who faces the challenges of life with their friends and family. I absolutely adored this story but it will bring tears to your eyes.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from NETGALLERY prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This modern day romance was a refreshing read. In my opinion, the best parts included the cultural integration and conflict that the characters had to navigate. The author did a wonderful job creating a slow burn of anticipation and did not overdo the romance. The characters were realistic and the plot points were solid, even with the inclusion of a celebrity storyline. The relationship Darya and Anthony built was respectful, honest and open-minded. If you are looking to escape into a multicultural modern love story - give this a try.

Seriously sooo many things to love about Set to Music, from the author, to the story, the characters ... absolutely EVERYTHING!

Negeen is a new to me author and the synopsis absolutely sucked me in! I mean, I read this in one sitting, I think that speaks for itself. With Darya and Anthony living very different lives, I love that they were paired so seamlessly together. Despite their different backgrounds, when it comes to family, there's a lot of similarities and where some of their vulnerabilities stem from. And I think it's something that many readers will be able to personally understand. Everything that Negeen incorporated into their story, just made it very real because readers will be able to relate.

Yes, Darya and Anthony were well-written characters, it's even better when you have such solid supporting characters. Family is a core value in this one and that's just another thing that I loved. I related to that on so many levels since I have such a huge extended family, you don't have to be blood-related to call someone family.

EMOTIONAL. I didn't realize the level of it all and my goodness, tears were shed .... these two, seriously, grab your tissues! The angst is unreal, but it was necessary. They needed to navigate their relationship a bit and it wasn't always easy, but worth it in the end.

I honestly don't have enough words to describe how much I loved this story. I haven't read a romance with a Persian family and I can't wait to read Negeen's backlist of books since she writes incorporates her Iranian heritage!

So much love for this story, all the stars!

I know people say this a lot, but seriously, Anthony Castillo is 100% my new book boyfriend. He is a Rockstar - but totally not what you would expect. Anthony is the lead singer of a band, but he really stays with things because he loves the music and the band is so important to his brother and friends. He truly is 100% dedicated to his mother and brother - and extended family in his band. It is clear that pretty much everything he does is to support them. When Anthony's brother Carlos passes out at a concert and is rushed to the ER, they all meet Darya. Darya has spent her life living up to her mother's expectations and trying to be the perfect Iranian daughter. She's a doctor who is starting a specialty in emergency medicine - and has absolutely no idea who Anthony and his brother are (she may be the only one on the planet who doesn't!).

Around this same time, Darya's mother is diagnosed with late stage lung cancer. It is a devastating diagnosis - which leaves the family financially unstable. When Anthony offers Darya an opportunity to come on tour with the band to monitor his brother's health - at three times her normal salary - she takes the opportunity to help support her mom and sister through this crisis.

Seeing Anthony and Darya open up to each other is just lovely. Seeing them support each other is even better. I'll admit I cried several times during this story - and I suggest kleenex be kept nearby. Its a beautiful story of finding the right person at perhaps the worst moment of your life - and also trying to keep that relationship going against the biggest challenges you could imagine.

Other things to love about this book other than the great, emotional story:
- the family connections - both by blood and choice
- the Persian family and culture
- the Mexican family and culture
- the fact that the band plays Latin music and sings in Spanish and English
- the acceptance of LGBTQ characters in cultures that are often not accepting at all
- the honesty of the characters about their situations and pasts

There is just so much to adore. And here's hoping we get a story about Carlos and Mike and Darya's sister - and I'm thinking Travis (Anthony's security).

I received this book as an arc from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

Negeen Papehn is a brilliant author making romance novels that are easy reading that flows by so quickly, when you finish you want more!!! Her writing is descriptive enough to see everything in the book like a movie in your head!!! I definitely recommend reading this book because it’s a good fast read but worth every minute!!! The culture in the book ads a lot of zest to the story and is a great eye opener to other cultural perspectives!!! I definitely recommend this book or any of Negeen’s other books as well!!!

I'm new to Negeen Papehn and already a fan. Set to Music was fabulous.

Anthony Castillo, his brother and their band are the hottest thing on the music scene. Dr. Darya Zameen is the devoted Persian daughter her mother trained her to be and too busy getting her career started to worry about dating. Her mother's devastating cancer diagnosis has Darya accepting Anthony's offer to tour with the band as his brother's doctor. Can a serious doctor and a hugely famous rock star find love and build a relationship?

This book had "all the feels". The slow burn between Anthony and Darya was sublime. Watching them get to know each other and become close was entertaining and heartwarming. The band members and Darya's sister and mother added greatly to the story. Everyone was so likable. The dedication to family on both sides was touching. The back and forth between Anthony and Darya as they try to navigate a difficult relationship situation was alternately sweet and frustrating in a gripping way. Darya's mother's medical situation was gut wrenching and the source of a lot of the tears.

I highly recommend this book for its character development and plot. Any fan of a good happily ever after is sure to love Set to Music.

Dr. Darya Zameeni is an ER doctor in her first 6 months at a famous Los Angeles hospital. Carlos is a famous rockstar in the band Teneura. They bring him into her ER one night after collapsing on stage. With Carlos' overprotective brother, Anthony, by his bedside, she attends to him and ultimately diagnoses him with a heart condition.

This is a very sweet story about a focused Iranian doctor and a rockstar used to getting what he wants. Darya is asked to go on tour with Teneura to look after Carlos and make sure he is ok. With her mother dying of Cancer and her younger sister needing to be taken care of, Anthony offers her three times her salary to go on tour with them. An offer that Darya cannot resist. As Darya and Anthony fall in love, she realizes her over protective Mother will insist she marry an Iranian man.

I really enjoyed reading about the Iranian culture and their customs. I felt it overstated like her devotion to her Mother and her beliefs. This book is not all sweetness. There are some very angsty parts that draw you further into the book. Set to Music is very well written and not your typical romance. While the characters were very realistic, I felt that a little background would have gone far as to explain why they acted the way they did. A very solid four starts!

Set to Music: Darya is a doctor in her first year of residency, Anthony is a rockstar trying to take care of his little brother. Carlos needs around the clock monitoring, and Anthony wants Darya to be the one to do it. When Darya's mother is diagnosed with cancer, weighed down by thoughts of student loan debt, taking care of her mother and her sister, Darya decides to take his offer.

This book hit hard in so many ways. As some currently avoiding dealing with my own feelings about my father's cancer diagnosis, I sobbed as I read this at 3am. I know the main focus of this book was supposed to be the romance, which I throughly enjoyed, but I really resonated with Darya.

She was the daughter that her mother hung her hopes and dreams on, but also her pain was given to Darya as well.

The romance was great, Darya and Anthony really clicked as a couple and I enjoyed reading it. I do think it happened pretty fast, but that's parr for the course in these types of books.
