It didn't end with the HEA
Who said once you get your prince the fight would be over? That was just a myth told to allow you to feel comfortable. Pat Benatar said it best, "Love is a battlefield..." A battle is just what Ella will have to go through to get to her prince charming, Alec. Then we have to add in her step sister Agatha and of course her drama that goes along with it. You will find that there are some things that you just have to see for yourself and others that just can't be faked. You will get a few surprises along the way to the fairy tale ending of this modern day fairy tale. Not all boundaries can or should be crossed. You must understand that sometimes the battles within are much harder than a physical obstacle.
CB gave us another hit out of the park. This time around Ella, Alec, Agatha, Jacoby, and others find that their lives are not scripted. It's coming at them full force in some cases and just the sneak attack in others. I highly recommend picking up the sixth installment in the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum. If you are new to the series go ahead try this one first, but I tell you will want to start all over at the beginning of this series and see all the things that made this fairy tale more than just another bedtime story.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read Entertaining Great world building Page-turner Witty Wonderful characters

unfortunately at the time of me requesting and being approved for this, it was stated absolutely nowhere that this was a series, nevertheless the 6th book of one. so obviously i went into it not expecting to be as confused as i was and couldn’t give the book a fairer chance due to these circumstances
This novel is a retelling of Cinderella. I like Ellie. She was a strong and fiesta heroine. However, the plot was pretty predictable! Still, I recommend this fan of K. M. Shea, Melanie Dickerson, and Melanie Karsak!
First thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book. Not sure if I should have read the other fifth book before reading this one. I did have a bit difficulty to get into the book at first.
Elle just found out that Alec has gone missing and she will go into Faerie lands to try to search for him. We also have the PoV of other characther. Agatha is Elle's evil stepsister and have accepted that it's her role but finding that Elle life might be in danger, she will be teaming up with Jacoby. There's also some chapter with the PoV of others characthers. I have prefered the chapters from Agatha and Jacoby PoV. And the final showdown.
First of all, the cover is absolutely gorgeous and draws you in. Next, the continuation of this series is edge of your seat fantastic. Elle is a not so predictable heroine who risks it all for her Prince. I love the modernism and the magic. The everyday person getting thrown into Fairy Tale is exciting and keeps me reading!
I really like the Magicorum Books. They are full of,phantasy and Life. A book for Young adults and everybody who love magic.
This book had a lot more going on than the previous book. Though the pacing was a bit off at times, and the chapters felt too short to really develop the characters and show them reacting to the things happening to and around them. A brief sentence or short paragraph was all that's given when anything happens to a character to express how they feel about any of it. This is still a fairly long book, and it's a lot a sequence of events that happen quickly, to get to the next set of action events.
I'm also not sure when our villain decided that Elle wasn't who she was looking for anymore and Agatha was. It kind of came out of nowhere.
There was a lot to like about this book, I just wish more of it had been expanded. The climax of this book also happened really quickly, and I didn't feel like the stakes that were set up matched what happened in a way. They also resolved the consequences that I felt cheapened things. There were some character deaths, that were resolved in a way that removed the impact of their deaths, and how the deaths were, for lack of a better word, resolved also had no consequence. It all just came out a little underwhelming. The book ends very abruptly as well. The stakes presented, didn't have the same impact and outcome as implied.
I do wish Agatha had been a bigger part of earlier books. She was more or less introduced as a character at the end of the previous book and becomes a POV character in this one and we're expected to form an attachment to her in a very short amount of time. I do stand by my opinion that while I don't love these books, they are a good bridge series from Middle Grade to Young Adult.
Fire And Cinder is the 6th book in the Magicorum series by Christina Bauer. Originally released in Feb 2021, this reformat and re-release from Monster House is 320 pages and is available in ebook and paperback formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately; it makes it so easy to find information with the search function.
This is an easy to read, very very light cozy paranormal romance novel aimed at YA readers. The book is written in alternating first person perspective and labeled in the chapter headings which character is being written. They're full of snarky sarcastic dialogue and action driven. The main characters' arcs are written throughout the previous 5 books in the series, but can certainly be read out of order without any confusion.
The books are full of fractured fairy tale archetypes and riffs on classic fairy tales. The happily-ever-afters are not easy to attain and there's a metric ton of crisis and drama and tortured teenage angst and longing between the start and finish.
I'm about 4 decades outside the target audience (older teens and YA), but I am confident that they'll be gobbled up by the readers for whom they're intended. There is a little bit of rough language, but nothing which would raise an eyebrow in the average school hallway.
The dialogue is sometimes eye-wateringly sarcastic, but again, for readers in the target audience, that will likely be a plus and not at all negative. This would be a good series to binge, since book 8 has just dropped. For fans of Twilight, Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles, and similar, these books will fit the bill.
Three and a half stars for this entry, rounded up for quite competent writing and plotting. I would imagine it will likely be higher for the target audience.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This was definitely an interesting concept! Real life people getting thrown into fairy tale situations. Yes please!!!
Premise
Meet the Magicorum: modern folks who are supernaturally locked into fairy tale life templates. For eighteen-year-old Elle, that role is Cinderella. Meanwhile, Agatha is her evil stepsister. Things go downhill from there…
Cinderella On The Run
Elle—never call her Cinderella—has found the love of her life in Alec Le Charme, the prince of a jewelry dynasty. But when Alec gets spirited away, Elle must ditch her Manhattan home for the perilous Faerie Lands. To save Alec, Elle must also swap her glass slippers for a flying carpet. But will switching templates from Cinderella to Aladdin snap Elle’s sanity?
Whatever. Bring on the straight jacket. Elle is one Cinderella who’s determined to save her prince, no matter what.
Evil Stepsister or Elf Queen?
Agatha always accepted her role as Elle’s evil stepsister. Then her life template changes from nasty sibling to evil elf queen. Agatha has one thought on that score. Thanks but no thanks. Agatha refuses the regal life, even though stepping away from her crown means ignoring her lifelong attraction to the elf prince, Jacoby.
Then everything changes. Agatha discovers that Elle’s life is at risk… and the only way to save her Cinderella is by teaming up with Jacoby. Trouble is, that’s a lot of togetherness. Working with Jacoby could easily end in disaster, not only for Agatha’s heart, but also for Elle and Alec’s lives.
It took me a bit to get into but once I did I thought it was really cool! This would make a great idea for a show or something! I definitely look forward to checking out more books in the series!
This book was amazing. The series keeps getting better and better. There is a lot going on in this book with multiple different POVs but it is really easy to distinguish between them and to understand what is going on. There is art every few chapters of different characters and it really ties the book together. The illustrations are gorgeous and elevate the book to a different level. I started reading this series when I was about 14 and I am still enjoying it now at 19. There is more about the world of faerie introduced in this book. It is added in a way that is not in your face. The reader is learning more about the world as the characters, such as Elle and Agatha, do.
The only thing I didn’t love was that the ending seemed a little too quick. A lot happened but at the same time not much was explained. I feel like the book was all leading up to this dramatic turning point and while it was good, it could have been better.
I would still highly recommend this entire series so far.
Fire and Cinder, the sixth entry in the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series, took me on another roller coaster ride filled with new discoveries that advanced the plot. Every new piece of info that was revealed was exciting, and I couldn't wait to see what the characters would have to face next.
Like the last book, Fire and Cinder is also told from four perspectives--those of Elle, Alec, Jacoby, and Agatha. Before I dove into this one, I reread the fifth book, Bandits and Ball Gowns, which took me no time at all. I fall into these books so easily, and I wanted to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything that happened previously before I read this current installment.
Everything I learned about Agatha was further expanded on in this book, and she was firmly rooted in the middle of the action along with Jacoby. One of my favorite parts was that the fairy tale templates these characters are kind of forced to live out can change, and I thought that was creative and well thought out. The new characters both from the last book and this one were welcome additions, and I even liked a couple of the characters on the "bad side."
The only reason I've rated this four stars instead of five was again how easily the battle against the "big bad" was won. Also some of the chapters were very short. I don't mind short chapters, but some of these were only a page to a page-and-a-half.
Overall, I devour my way through this series, and I can't wait to read the next book!
The beautiful cover art is what drew me in, but the writing style wasn't enough to keep me interested. I didn't really like one.
This storyline has my heart for so many reasons. Just the idea of the Magoricum is so wonderfully fantastic! I can't imagine what it looks like inside this author's brain, but I'm here for it!
Agatha... why do I find myself relating to you so much at this point? I didn't want to like you, but I now find myself relating to you on a painfully real level. Ella and Alec - goodness knows that Ms. Bauer can't allow you to stop having difficulties once your hearts are matched. Good luck. hahaha
Always a fun ride! I love this series and always know I'm in for a treat when I open her books!
Very interesting and adventurous take on fairytale retellings! The author takes the fairytales we all know and love and shakes them up like you've never seen before!
This book was provided to me via Xpresso Reads in return for an honest review.
I've read a few of the books in this series so far, and I've enjoyed most of them. This is a self-published series that have an interesting spin of fairy tale characters and their lives. There is an overlap with our world, which has an interesting impact on the stories.
We still follow Elle, but we also get some plot progression from Jacoby and Agatha, one of Elle's stepsisters. Agatha's story was much more interesting to me this time around. And I just felt like there was holes in the story. The final 'showdown' was glossed over so quickly that I didn't see much of a point in that part of the story.
What I do like is that this series has so much space for improvement, that it could be incredible with some work to the plots and writing. Christina's writing keeps improving with every book. One day this will be an incredible series that everybody will want to read, I'm sure of it.
Sad to say this wasn’t a book for me. I haven’t read the rest of the series so I didn’t know what to expect. The tone was way too sugary bubblegum hype girly for me. And I will admit that I have trouble with 1st tense use most of the time. There are some good ideas in this action packed fast read and I’m sure many will enjoy it. I like fairytales, which is why I picked the book, but mainly I enjoy the sense of wonder they give. This was too chick lit for me, not enough fantasy. The art style doesn’t seem to fit, too serious, and the inner art didn’t seem to creat the right atmosphere at all. While the text is super light and modern the pictures are dark and heavy. It’s a strange choice.
I absolutely adore the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series and this book is no different. This story features characters you really want to care about and an incredibly unique and interesting plot. I definitely wanted more following this and I cannot wait for the next installment in the series - please don't make us wait too long.
They say it takes a village to raise a child but in this case it took that and much more to save everyone and everything. It took the Colonel as a dragon, Elle, Alec, Jacoby, Agatha, Knox, Bry and many, many more to save all of Fairie, the Seelie and Unseelie courts. All is right with the world...maybe.
