"Our Wicked Lies" by Glede Browne Kabongo is a suspenseful thriller that plunges readers into the seemingly perfect life of Alicia Gray, only to reveal the ominous secrets lurking beneath the surface. The author masterfully crafts a narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats, blending elements of mystery, psychological suspense, and domestic drama.

The strength of Kabongo's storytelling lies in the gradual unraveling of the intricate web of lies and hidden truths. Alicia's realization that her enviable marriage is not what it seems sets the stage for a gripping exploration of deception and betrayal. The discovery of mysterious emails between her husband and a woman named Faith adds layers of intrigue, prompting Alicia to embark on a desperate quest for the truth.

The setting of a wealthy town with its privileged inhabitants adds a compelling backdrop to the story. Kabongo skillfully portrays the facade of perfection that conceals the characters' true selves, creating an atmosphere where nothing is as it seems. The exploration of dark secrets in a world of wealth and privilege adds depth to the narrative, keeping readers engaged as they navigate the twists and turns.

The characters are well-developed, with Alicia at the forefront as a relatable protagonist grappling with the shocking revelations. As she delves into the mystery surrounding Faith and the suspicious death that rocks her world, readers are taken on an emotional rollercoaster, invested in Alicia's journey of self-discovery and resilience.

The pacing of the novel is well-executed, with each revelation propelling the story forward. The suspense is maintained throughout, and the author skillfully weaves together various plot threads, keeping readers guessing until the final pages. The resolution of the mystery is satisfying, providing closure to the intricate plot.

While "Our Wicked Lies" excels in building tension and delivering a thrilling narrative, some readers may find the resolution slightly predictable. Nonetheless, the journey to uncover the truth is so well-crafted that it compensates for any predictability in the conclusion.

In summary, "Our Wicked Lies" is a four-star thriller that delivers on its promise of suspense and intrigue. Glede Browne Kabongo creates a captivating story of deception, secrets, and the devastating price of truth in a world where appearances can be deceiving. Fans of psychological thrillers will find this book to be a compelling and engaging read.

Unfortunately this book was a "Did Not Finish" (DNF) for me. I will give it another try at a later date. Could be my mood at the time.

Alicia Gray has her life set. A successful lawyer husband, the first African-American man in his very prestigious firm to make partner, who adores her, two lovely teenage daughters, the oldest about to leave for college, and a massive, luxurious house in an expensive part of town. Yet she can’t help feeling that something is amiss.

When her husband panics visibly on receiving a call at the dinner table, and a neighbour makes a cryptic remark, she is driven to find out what he may be hiding from her.

She finds email correspondence between her husband and a woman called Faith. It is the beginning of the unraveling of her marriage.

Her husband has secrets, and so does she.

The story is written from the third person limited pov of Alicia and Eliot. The narrative is interspersed with diary entries around the 72 percent mark. By the 75 percent mark, there are still twists hitting us.

It wasn’t long before I began to like Alicia, her simplicity and generosity of spirit shone through.

It was also refreshingly new to see American parents adivising their children about no sex before marriage, where most others might talk about protection.

The style was good, even though it leaned more towards women’s fiction than domestic thriller. I enjoyed the descriptions, especially those relating to Paris.

A few similes were forced, as “Fear swooped down like a murder of crows.” Also the usage of the tense is annoying and awkward. There were sentences with mixed tenses.

Alicia was caught up in her own…confusion since she’d stood in Kat’s driveway and saw...

The word, saw, should have been replaced with seen.

The questions, What’s on your mind?, is asked by Dr Jack Witherspoon, Alicia and Eliot. This question isn’t as common as What’s up? Or What’s happening? So the repetition stands out.

The Spanish address, mija is a shortened form of mi hija (my daughter), but here it’s mentioned as maja.

The phrase, to go postal, was a new one for me.

The flashbacks felt awkward.

I would have thought the plural of De Luca should be De Lucas. Here the author kept referring to the family as De Lucases, which wasn’t the right word.

Until the 50 percent mark, we only contend with Eliot’s infidelity. After this point, the twists begin coming at us, one after another. The second half of the book packs a punch, with issues such as depression, infidelity and dysfunctional marriage.

I highly recommend this riveting, twisted tale! It’ll have you dizzy, trying to figure out what is going on and whose involved! Fast paced, well written, and tense! A book that will keep you flipping pages until you read that final chapter! Don’t delay, as it’s not to be missed!

I love domestic thrillers that keep me guessing with unexpected plot twists and heart-rending scenarios. Unfortunately this book did not provide me with either. The premise is not uncommon,  wealthy unsuspecting faithful housewife finds out her husband is cheating.  What came next was both very predictable and reminiscent of many other unfaithful husband stories.  I guessed the various twists throughout the book far in advance.  But although that was the case, it did not deter me from continuing the story and finishing the book.  The story did keep me engaged with its good character development and skillful writing style. I'm glad I stuck with it because the last twist completely took me by surprise.  I recommend this book for a quick easy read.  It is the perfect beach book.

This is the third book I’ve read by this author, and once again was on the edge of my seat! Glede has a way of keeping her secrets in her books. I can never seem to guess who is doing what! So much happened in the last part of the book, I couldn’t put it down until I finished. Really well done. Thank you Netgalley for the great read.

Alicia Gray is living the perfect life- or is she? She has two children , a handsome husband, a beautiful home, but what else is going on behind all of that perfection? Alicia is a stay at home mom, who finds out her husband is not who she thought. he was. The reader goes into the lives of three couples and the relationships between all of them. The author takes us on many twists and turns, and I was constantly guessing throughout the story. This is a quick read, can't put down and I will be adding this author to my list! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this advanced copy.

Alicia and Eliot have the perfect life people are envious of - 2 beautiful teen daughters, an expansive home, wealth, love, and affection for each other. Alicia thought she was the luckiest woman in the world until she witnesses something happen between Eliot and her best friend Kat. Along with hidden email draft messages between Eliot and someone named Faith, how well does Alicia really know her husband?

Eliot was quick to deny or defend his actions when Alicia confronted him. Because Alicia did not come from a wealthy background, she feared living that life again and despite her gut feeling about Eliot she continued to be the perfect wife and mother. Determined to investigate on her own what Eliot is hiding, it was just a matter of time before her frustrations and doubts surface. When an unexpected death happens, lies and secrets are exposed and everyone is scrambling trying to cover their tracks. Was it an accidental death or murder?

This is the first book I've read from this author and I enjoyed it. Told from multiple POV's, it kept me intrigued as I tried to figure out what was going through Alicia's mind. When you think questions have been answered another twist comes along, throwing the reader for a loop. Overall a great book that I had a hard time putting down.

Alicia Gray is upset after seeing her best friend, Kat, grab her husband, Eliott’s, crotch at a get-together. Alicia is a stay at home mom to their two daughters, Marston, 17, and Lily, 16. Eliott is a partner at an elite law firm and they live in a large home in a wealthy neighborhood. When confronted, Eliott assures Alicia that he was not seeking attention from Kat and feels she had probably been drinking too much. When Alicia confronts Kay, she apologizes and tells her that she had had too much to drink and is embarrassed by her actions.

Alicia works voluntarily at a OBGYN clinic that offers care to women who can’t afford their own doctor. She is thinking of getting a full time job now and even doing some college education online. Eliott doesn’t seem to feel that she needs to do that as he makes plenty of money.

When Alicia inadvertently finds emails to and from someone named Faith on Eliott’s computer, she knows he’s having an affair. Thus, begins Alicia hunt to find out who Faith is and why Eliott is having an affair.

Well, Eliott is is a cocky jerk always calling Alicia “Baby” when she questions him. That irked me. Why would Alicia want to continue to stay with someone who she knows is having an affair and is condescending to her? I wanted to kick both of them! He’s a creep and she’s the whiny little wife who can’t realize that he isn’t going to change. There was a lot of repetition in the book rehashing the same old things. Sorry. Not a favorite.

Thanks to NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC, which I received in exchange for my honest review. Our Wicked Lies is a domestic thriller which begs the question, is any marriage as perfect as it seems? The answer in the case of this neighborhood is a resounding no!

Readers are treated to wealthy residents of an exclusive enclave cheating, gossiping and doing generally whatever it takes to hold on to what they have. While I did not like some of the characters, this was a quick read and I did enjoy it.

My thanks to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, BrowneStar Media, for the ARC

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's well-written, with good, rounded characters, and believable (if somewhat at time naïve) dialogue.

Eliot is a partner in an elite corporate law firm, with Alicia his wife they live in the best part of town amongst equally wealthy business people. They have two daughters - Eliot had always wanted a son but Alicia had miscarried that dream. Alicia becomes best friends with Kat and they give each other their secrets. When Alicia witnesses an intimate moment between Kat and Eliot at a party, then receives notes suggesting her husband is lying, then discovers unsent emails to "Faith" on Eliot's laptop - Alicia's world starts to crumble. She's determined to find out who Faith is - with devastating consequences.

Can her family survive this - is Eliot really who she thought he was, after al,l he called her his "perfect angel".

A story of lies, deceits, infidelity and betrayal, although there is a shocking twist the author ties everything up nicely for the reader - can they survive this?

Excellent book! I was drawn in from the very first page and it held my interest until the last sentence. Our Wicked Lies is full of secrets from all the characters, twists and turns in every chapter. Just when you think you have the whole story figured out, something else happens and you realize you were tricked too! I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author!

This story revolves around a woman named, Alicia, her husband, Eliot, and her best friend Kat. As well as their families. Alicia finds some questionable emails from a person named Faith and she is unsure whether her perfect husband and perfect marriage is what it seems.

I have very mixed thoughts about this book. First, the entire first half of the book was very predictable to me. I was able to figure out the first really big twist of the book so that took some of the fun out of a thriller. I also found it very hard to like any of these characters, even Alicia (although I did like her a lot more towards the end of the book).

The second half of the book did start to pick up for me. It had a lot of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming at all. I also loved the very, very end. It was truly a shocking ending. I also enjoyed the epilogue and how it gave a very satisfying ending for all the characters.

Overall, this book had some twists and turns as well as a shocking ending. The book was a little predictable at times but was still an enjoyable, fast read.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
