started off strong as a fun, easy to read book. Gemma and Danny are newlyweds who move to Bristol. They are eager to start their new life and family. But then Danny disappears and it seems he never actually moved to Bristol at all. Gemma is suspected of his disappearance and also of the murders of several men who happen to look a lot like Danny.
The set up was fun to read. The mystery was fresh and interesting. But about 60% into the book, it just dragggggggged on. Then the ending is rushed.
Well - this book should be made into a TV show or movie! Gemma’s husband Danny goes missing when she goes out of town for a night on a work trip. Turns out, there’s a serial killer on the loose and they think Gemma killed her husband as well as several others that look like Danny. This book kept me guessing until the end, and every single guess I made was wrong. I couldn’t put this book down! Did she do it? If she didn’t, then who did? And where’s Danny? I highly recommend this book! Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a quick and exciting read. I was very happy with character development and plot. I will admit that I felt let down around the middle, as I believed I had it figured out. Wrong! Great ending. Definitely happy to have read this one!!
This book gets a mixed review from me!
Pros: good character development and some good twists and turns
Cons: slower and pretty predictable
Definitely check it out if you like slower paced thriller/suspenses.
Thank you to the author, Harper 360, and NetGalley for providing a copy to review!
Danny and Gemmma are newlyweds with what Gemma thought was a perfect marriage. Until Danny goes missing.
This was definitely a page turner. I thought I figured it all out, and then, nope, I was wrong. The big twist wasn't as shocking as I was hoping. Also, I didn't love the ending.
However, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological suspense books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for this ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the second I have read by this author. I wasn’t a big fan of the first but I wanted to give a fair shake so I tried again. Again, not my favorite. The author has great character development which is often lacking in this genre, but for me it’s too much. The story is slow and I felt predictable. I prefer my thrillers fast paced and twisty!
Gripping page turner. I couldn't wait to get back to it after I put it down. Lots of twists. Great. The ending kinda left me a little flat after all the suspense but enjoyable nonetheless
I devoured this book! I love books filled with drama, lies, betrayal basically all the good stuff that keeps you wanting more. This book had it all. Highly recommend
Gemma’s husband, Danny, is very late returning home one day and Gemma immediately calls the police. She then finds out that there have been several murders in their area and that the victims all bear a striking resemblance to her husband. The police of course suspect a serial killer is at large.
As the police begin to investigate, things start to get weird. There is literally no sign of Danny in their shared apartment and no friends or family have heard from him in the weeks before his disappearance. What really happened to Danny?
I am a Jackie Kabler fan and I enjoyed the suspense that lead up to a great ending.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360, One More Chapter for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A great psychological thriller. Gemma loves her husband Danny. Now he is missing. Her neighbors claim they never saw him. He doesn't work where he said he did. Now the police are looking at Gemma. Not only for her husband's disappearance, but for the murders of four other men that look just like her husband.
Great read!
I was given this book to read and review by the publisher through Netgalley.
I started and finished this book today and absolutely could not put it down.. There appears to be a serial killer on the loose and Gemma’s husband is missing. Has he become the next victim? I sure thought I had this one figured out, but I was sooo wrong! Great thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Clever, an easy way to pass the day. I’d recommend to anyone who wants an authentic, entertaining book to read for any occasion. Nice twist at the end.
This book had a slow ramp up. It took awhile for me to become invested in the story, but once I was hooked I was ALL IN. I really liked the alternating perspectives of a wife with a missing husband and the female cop that is searching for him. It really added to the story to have elements of the story unfold from different people in the investigation. I kept changing my mind about how the ending was going to turn out and that’s all we wish for in a thriller right? For it to keep us on our toes and be an entertaining reading experience? This one paid off for me in those categories for sure.
Am I Guilty, Jackie Kabler’s last novel was brilliant and I was so excited to read this new one. Gemma comes home from a trip and her husband, Danny, is not home, and doesn’t come back. Meanwhile, the local police have a possible serial killer on the loose so could Danny be the next victim? The first half of the book was wonderful, with the narrative of a woman overcome with anxiety and second guessing her husband. The tension built well, I I liked the protagonist and I was intrigued to see how it would all play out. The second half was a little repetitive with Gemma going over and over again with all her thoughts but the ending was great and I was really happy to have read this book.
