This is part of a series. This is a police procedural that had me interested from the very first page.
The twist was a surprise and I didn’t guess it. It’s fast paced and well plotted

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, this archived before I was able to download, therefore I was unable to read this. I have seen a lot of positive reviews though!

That was a great read!

It had me totally gripped from start to finish. It was really tense, with some unexpected twists.

I liked Frankie and Baz.

I haven't read any of the previous books, but have definitely added them to my TBR list.

Thank you to NetGalley, Olivia and publishers, Quercus Books for the chance to read this book.

I hadn't read any of the DCI Frankie Sheehan books before but this was fine as a standalone. I enjoyed the store and the characters but the pace for me was a bit slow. and the first half of the book was a bit drawn out. The ending was also rushed.
I would read further books in the series.

I loved this, it had a bit of everything a good thriller needs- plenty of suspense and intrigue, drama and some dark twists. Fabulous!

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

The Murder Box by Olivia Kieman is book number 4 in the Frankie Sheehan series. Upon requesting this book I didn’t know it was a part of a series. I missed the character development when reading this book as I haven’t read the previous three books. In saying that I did enjoy reading the roller coaster ride that Frankie goes on when she becomes a player in a real life murder mystery game when “The Murder Box” arrives for her. It is definitely a book you wouldn’t want to read late at night if you get spooked easily. A gripping read with the right twists and turns.

Thank you Netgalley and Quercus Books for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

#TheMurderBox #NetGalley Book 4 in the series and although capable of being read as a standalone, reading the previous books would give the reader more background on the main characters especially Frankie and Baz. The plot of this book really intrigued me and I was a little disappointed to find that the first half of the book was a bit slow moving and at times, I thought, repetitive. I would have liked a lot more action. The second half did improve as Frankie and her team raced to discover the culprit before it was too late.

This book had me from the start to the finish. Unfortunately it is book #4 but it still can be read as a standalone. The ending was superb and made it for me. Lots of twists in this one so be prepared for a ride.

Firstly, I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

This is the first book in this series that I have read, and it was fine as a stand alone story. However, my enjoyment of the book would probably have been enhanced by reading the previous books. It is Frankie Sheehan’s birthday and she receives a Murder Mystery Game, but the characters are real and she has to play the game to solve the case. There are a lot of characters in the story and the pace is a bit slow at times, but I still enjoyed it.

I haven’t read any of the DCI Frankie Sheehan books before and this book worked fine as a standalone. I enjoyed the concept of the book and the characters but found the pacing slightly off. The first half of the book was a bit drawn out and repetitive, the same facts/phrasings being used a lot but then the ending felt rushed.

I would read further books in the series.

Detective Chief Superintendent Frankie Sheehan runs the Serious Crime bureau in Dublin, but she and her team are stuck in the doldrums, investigatively, with few leads on the high-profile case of missing TV celebrity Teddy Dolan. When a murder mystery game is delivered, Frankie thinks it’s a quirky birthday present, until the contents reveal evidence that seems to tie to a young woman recently reported missing. When the two missing persons cases appear to connect, and a group of Trinity students are also caught up in the ‘Murder Box’, Frankie and her team are confronted with horrific consequences in a high-stakes game of fact and fiction. Kiernan’s combination of smooth writing, interesting characters, and plenty of action all adds up to a very good police procedural that may have newer readers immediately diving into the DCS Frankie Sheehan backlist.

This is the first book I’ve read from the series and whilst it read perfectly fine as a stand alone I did feel I was maybe missing a bit of the connection between the team, especially Frankie and Baz. I also found the pace on the slow side and there were a lot of characters that were difficult to keep track of. It was an interesting premise and even though the ending wasn’t predictable, which I liked, it did feel rushed. I did still enjoy the hunt for the bad guy though and will probably go back and read more from the series.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

This was perfectly readable with a clever concept, but ultimately it fell short for me. A twisty book that kept me guessing, though somewhat forgettable. I haven't previously read any of the books in the Frankie Sheehan series, and this worked as a standalone.

‘The Murder Box’ is by Olivia Kiernan and is the latest book in the ‘Frankie Sheehan’ series.

At first, Detective Chief Superintendent Frankie Sheehan believes the murder mystery game sent to her office is a birthday gift from one of her colleagues. But when Frankie studies the game’s contents, she notices a striking resemblance between the ‘murder victim’ and missing twenty-two-year-old Lydia Callin. As Frankie and her team investigate, a series of grisly crimes connected to the game are discovered across Dublin city and Lydia’s involvement with a shadowy network of murder mystery players becomes clear. On the hunt for Lydia’s murderer, Frankie is drawn more deeply into the game. Every successful move brings her closer to the killer. But the real question is not what happens should she lose — but what happens if she wins.

I’m so late posting this review as I’ve spent my evening reading this book and couldn’t put my thoughts down until I reached the final page.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a good crime procedural book so I was eager to sink into the ‘The Murder Box’. And although this book is actually the fourth book in the Frankie Sheehan series, it could easily be read as a standalone.

The story is set in Dublin and seen through the narrative of Detective Frankie Sheehan, a straight talking detective who receives an unlikely birthday present inviting her to take part in a murder mystery case which is actually true as well as finding a well known Irish celebrity called Teddy Dolan. The clock is counting down with clues and drama as Frankie and her team try to be one step ahead of the murderer.

I genuinely loved this story, it’s gritty, it’s bleak and really gives a fascinating insight into the procedures of the police force in Ireland. It’s quite graphic in parts and can occasionally make for disturbing reading but I really thought this added to the drama and tension of the story.

I really enjoyed Frankie and the dynamics with her team and how they pull together to help solve the case. The main story is the murder box but there’s also the inclusion of smaller stories that Olivia brings neatly together at the end.

With ‘Line of Duty’ no longer on our screens, I’ve found the perfect replacement series! A fast paced and intense story that made for gripping late night reading, ‘The Murder Box’ is a brilliantly written tense and chilling book.

You can buy ‘The Murder Box’ from Amazon.
