I've read Interview with the Antichrist by Jeff Kinley and have since wanted to dive into his non-fiction concerning prophecy. This was definitely the right place to start! I had to resist the urge to speed though this because it was so engrossing. Instead, I read one chapter a time, ensuring that I absorbed as much information as possible. If you have any questions about Revelation, Biblical end times prophecy, or what the future holds- the answers are likely included in the 100 questions featured. The guide is accessible and provides sources for everything discussed. While the e-ARC I received did not include the illustrations, I imagine they would only further add to understanding of the topics covered. Purely judging what is visible on Amazon, it seems to be mostly infographics and illustrations to depict long Biblical passages.
While every day that passes brings us closer to the End Times, and the world is undoubtably falling deeper into sin, I have been hesitant to believe we are quickly approaching the last days. However, the dissecting of the many Biblical prophecies up to and including Revelation really show how much our world mirrors what is foretold.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Harvest House Publishers for an e-ARC of this title for review; all opinions are my own
Interesting look at the importance and relevance of biblical prophecy. I feel like I learned a lot from this book, and I really liked how well done the layout and graphic design was.
I loved this book!! I don’t always understand or comprehend prophecy or the end times. This book opened it right up for me! There is one place I still am not getting and that’s the millennial kingdom. The author’s did a good job explaining it. It’s just me and I don’t know if I agree with their explanation, but we all have our thoughts. I just have to study on that more. It doesn’t change how I see the rest of the book though, because it’s a great book! They have tried to explain and stick to explaining by the Word of God, exactly as we should do. Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review with my honest opinion!
What a timely and important book! I made copious notes as there are aspects I've struggled to understand. The approach and writing somehow brought it more alive for me than ever before. It is simply written yet packed solid with information.
Discussed are topics such as why we should care about prophecies, the numbers of prophecies in the Bible and where they are found, the fulfillment of prophecies and how we can be sure Jesus will return as was prophesized, the prophets themselves and symbolism which always point to the literal truth. Pretribulation, midtribulation, posttribulation and prewrath views are explained as is Jesus' millennial reign and eschatology through the ages. The order of events is laid out beautifully, though my digital copy of the book has no accompanying charts or graphs.
Further topics include the explanation of what truly matters to core Christian beliefs and what doesn't. Another is the information about the super sign and the setting of the stage. The ideas of convergence and imminence are described. Amongst the trickiest concepts for me to understand has always been the seal and trumpet judgements and the new Heaven and the new earth. But they are explained in easy-to-understand terms here. Of course no human being knows all the details nor when the end will occur and the writers are careful to make that clear.
If you are interested in Biblical prophecies and/or to learn more, do read this book. It is one of the best on eschatology I've ever read. Sobering yet exciting and hopeful!
My sincere thank you to Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for the privilege of reading the e-ARC of this inspired book.
Allow me to first state that the entire title of this book is “The prophecy pros illustrated guide to tough questions about the end times.” Far too long to try and fit well within the title block for this post. The book is written by Jeff Kinley and Todd Hampson, who have a few other entries into the field of prophecy/end times conversation.
Where to begin. Obviously the book is based on scripture, specifically from Revelation but also drawing from passages in various books through out the old and new testaments. I didn’t find much wavering within from the truth of scripture, though that does not mean the authors did not “fill in some blanks” at times. Not on the level of the Left Behind series but there was still a couple spots the reader could see scripture is mostly silent on the matter and the authors were giving some weight to it. Not a good practice.
It might be worth mentioning that using the term pro in your title is a problem as well. These two may be very well read and they admittedly do a lot of research within their writing, but to claim the level of prop of expert can look like a grab for hype and sales.
The book itself was well structured. 10 chapters each with 10 points within, you always knew when you were coming to a close on the topic. My ebook format contained no illustrations (perhaps as an advance copy this is what you get) so I was missing a lot of information within. They referenced charts and other insert material which simply was not available to me. A great plus was the inclusion of many notes as the book closed, proving this was not an opinion writing but the authors took the time to find sources and documented this for the reader.
Is it worth your time? If you have questions about end times prophecy yes. If you are a casual reader, no the information is too heavy for this. Be prepared to dive into the bible along with the book or risk feeling lost along the way.
**I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. These are my personal thoughts.
Thanks to NET GALLEY for the ARC.
Now to the book, FIRST, it is not illustrated on my edition and that is disappointing.
As to the rest of the content, I have read through no fewer than 10 books on Daniel and Revelation in the last 6 months preparing to teach so I almost didn't open this one but listen to me; this is it.
Practical and evidentiary in nature, the authors (Jeff anyway) lay out the parts and pieces in a concise and logical format. He offers other views without attacking them and it is easy to follow. Listen I recommend this in the very strongest of terms.
Too many commentaries you get need a commentary just to understand the commentary but not here. If you read only one on the topic this one is very hard to beat. It is truly fantastic.
6 stars if I could!

Impressions: This has been a great book for me. I’ve lived with the attitude that Revelations doesn’t really matter much to me because I am a believer. If I continue to follow the Lord in His ways then Revelation is for other people but this book opened my eyes and my faith really. We can’t as Christians just focus on certain parts of the Bible in our lives and ministries, we need to seek to understand it all. I was challenged by this idea while reading this book and feel more confident in this topic after reading this.
Liked: This book was very easy to read. The topic itself is not one that comes to mind when I think of easy discussion so its ease in reading and understanding is significant. Everything was broken down with plenty of Biblical references to form your opinion of end times. It became easier to put my hope and faith in God as my faith was strengthened through learning and understanding how God has used and is using prophecy in the Bible and our lives. I highly recommend this book.
Disliked: It was disappointing to read this book on my kindle because I missed out on all the graphics. I think some concepts, especially statistics are more memorable with a visual. When I scrolled through the book on my iPad I was able to see all the illustrations and graphics and became bummed that I missed them all while reading. Oh well I’ll just have to read it on the iPad now 😉
Quotes: “Because ignorance regarding a prophecy can give rise to fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. It also makes us vulnerable to misleading information, false teachers, errant beliefs. Sensationalism, speculations, conspiracy theories, and baseless predictions. Thankfully, our fears regarding the future can be conquered by reading God’s prophetic word and trusting Him to accomplish.”
