I’m usually more of a domestic thriller fan than ones told from the side of law / police but this book had me on edge til the end! A unique plot that hasn’t been told before mixed with a great writing style created a great read and one I highly recommend to anyone looking for one of those stay up late, can’t put down reads! Excited to read my next Louisa Scarr book!
A man is found dead in a hotel room, strangled by his belt in a sex act gone wrong. A young mother and her twin boys die in a horrific car accident. A drunken driver is killed when his car hits a tree. Three fatal, unrelated accidents. Or are they?
DC Freya West’s first day as a partner to DI Robin Butler is also the worst day of her life. When she and Robin go to break the news of a husband’s death to a new widow, Freya hears the name of the dead man. He was her married lover Jonathan and Freya is now sitting facing his widow Amy. Freya knows that Jonathan was going to ask Amy for a divorce, She is sure that he was murdered and that Amy is somehow responsible. She decides to keep her relationship with Jonathan a secret so she can be part of the investigation. Then she is put in charge of an investigation into a closed case involving a car accident. It seems that both partners have something in common. They are hiding career ending secrets from each other. “There is no way either of them can turn back now.” And turn back they don’t. They push forward, determined to find the guilty before their own secrets are uncovered.
Last Place You Look is an excellent, suspenseful police procedural with likable but deeply flawed characters. Robin Butler and Freya West make a strong team and I am looking forward to the sequel, especially after the shocking epilogue. 5 Stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo and Louisa Scarr for this ARC.
Jonathan Miller and his wife are invited to his best friend’s lavish 40th birthday celebrations. Four days later, Jonathan is dead, apparently asphyxiated during a solitary sex act gone wrong. A tragic case of misadventure.
This was a good exciting book. I enjoyed reading it. I didn't like the plot too much. I felt it lagged. But overall it was a good quick read!
What an exciting police procedural! A murder and a love affair collide and take the readers on a wild ride. A good read!
My first book by Louisa Scarr and does not disappoint. DS Freya West is shocked and upset when the latest case she and DCI Rob Butler were assigned is the one of her murdered lover. Freya keeps quiet about being his mistress whilst working the case. A good storyline, but I found it a tad unbelievable that two serving police officers would behave and have gotten away with most of the things in this book. Yes DCI Rob Butler in a parallel storyline has his demons too.
Thankyou Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Wow!! An excellent thriller. Although I found certain parts a tad predictable the way it was written I still enjoyed the book!
