Saffron is married to Miles but he also comes with Caprice who is the mother in law from hell.Although they are happily married Caprice continues to try and split them up as she see' s Saffron as not good enough for her precious son, even getting the new nanny Hayley involved in her plans. The Unwelcome Guest is a great read which keeps you guessing about the outcome, there's also plenty of twists and turns to keep you engrossed in the book.Once again Amanda Robson has written a top draw thriller that will keep you turning the pages.A 5 star thriller for me without a doubt.
I absolutely adored this book. I was hooked from the start. I hope that Amanda Robson has even more bookish gems up her sleeve.
Hooked right from the beginning I really enjoyed this pageturner of a book. Told from the different perspectives of the characters you need to be aware to take note whom is the narrator at any given time. A recommended read.
Saffron and her husband, Nate, appear to have it all: marriage, children, a lovely home, a good neighborhood, and promising careers. But Saffron has a problem. Her widowed mother-in-law, Caprice, lives with them. Saffron is convinced Caprice doesn't like her, and is the root of all her troubles.
This story is told from alternating points-of-view, moving between the different characters. This provides insight into their thoughts and motives. As the story unfolded, I learned more about Caprice, her daughter-in-law, Saffron, Saffron's husband, Miles, and the brother-in-law, Aidan.
It was unbelievable how Saffron and Caprice try to destroy each other. On the outside, they look like the perfect family, but they are the most dysfunctional group of people you ever met.
I devoured this book. The alternating narrators kept the pressure high and me on the edge of my seat until the final page.
From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.
I wasn't sure if I was into this book or not, it started a little slowly and the narrators switched frequently. But then...but then? It took off and "BAM" I wasn't ambivalent anymore.
Great book and I highly recommend,
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for gifting me a copy of this book. It was my pleasure to write an honest review.
A slow burner, but it was entertaining. Switching the narratives between different characters was a bit confusing though.
The Unwelcome Guest is a slow burner but well worth the read. The authors ability to speak to the reader from different viewpoints and characters is one of the best I've read. This gives the reader lots to think about in terms of perspective. When the business end of the book comes into play the built up knowledge of the different characters is of benefit to understand how and why the story unfolds. At times far fetched and the forgiveness at times between the husband and wife is hard to believe, I would recommend this book.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have liked everything this author has written and this was the best so far, great storyline, great characters and will have you thinking right to the very end. Would recommend.
Yes!! The mother in law nightmares are made of. Everyone thinks they have the worst one and everyone else thinks that they can beat it. Just wait until you read this book.

Oh this was good - takes mother in law from hell to a whole new level! I liked the way the story was told through the different characters and really liked the twist at the end! I haven't read the author before but would certainly do again.
This is a psychological thriller with the mother in law from hell and flips between different perspectives. On the whole I enjoyed it. It kept me reading but truthfully I struggled with the writing style. I found the constant use of ‘you’ irritating. Shame as it’s a good story if a bit predictable.
I was looking forward to reading this book. Saffron and Miles are happily married. They have 2 children and a mother in law, who after loosing her husband moves in with them. Caprice never liked Saffron and she would do anything to destroy her son's marriage. Saffron hires a nanny and hopes things will get better with Caprice, but little does she know. Overall it was an enjoyable book to read.
There is so much going on in this book. Five different perspectives give a detailed vision of the family life and all the dramas within.
Let's make it clear - this family is toxic as hell. There is a happy marriage, Miles and Saffron, and two kids. Sounds good so far. Add the jealous brother-in-law, mother-in-law who is a nightmare, and a nanny who sees much more than should. And then, the war between mother-in-law Caprice and daughter-in-law Saffron begins.
I thought that I have a wild imagination, but here you can find a huge amount of ways how to destroy another human being. Misinformation, manipulation, psychological tricks, and much more - the recipe for the murder is served!
For me, there were a little too many all these details and problems all around. Five people with their though and different understanding is a lot to deal with and sometimes it was hard to catch up and focused on the mainline of the story.
While the story keeps me intrigued, the ending was a disaster. I expected something spectacular, but it was a bit naive and, let's say, boring. What a shame.
Still, I am going to add the other book of Robston to my tbr list.
Great book. Loved the plot and the characters.
Very well written and engaging. Would reccomend you give this a try.
Highly entertaining. Copy or style I received was hard to follow...When the header said Saffron: other characters would be giving their perspective and although easy enough to figure out I was wondering whose perspective I was reading. What do you do with the world’s most vile Mother in Law? The one who thwarts you at every turn and whose favourite past time is to think up and execute DEVIOUS ways to ruin her daughter in law’s life? Why you beat them at their own game! That’s what you do! I mean hopefully you don’t have a spineless husband (do men like Miles really exist?), a lecherous brother in law or a nubile nanny. And it’s rich that dear MIL can’t stand her DIL’s name. Caprice? Meet Saffron, Saffron meet Caprice. But both bold name choices left me in no doubt who I was reading about. Yes this book has been done before but it still works because you want to know whatever will the “ladies” get up to next? Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre for this ARC. This is another book by Amanda Robson that should do well!
2 stars ⭐️⭐️
Saffron has the perfect marriage, until her mother-in-law Caprice moves in. Caprice has it in for her son’s wife, but no one else seems to notice. Saffron thinks that hiring a new nanny will help shield her from Caprice’s barbs, but things around the house only get worse.
To be honest this book was not for me. The plot was kind of predictable. The characters were not likeable and also not smart? Like they literally all believed anything they were told. 🤷♀️ I also did not like how it was written as if characters were talking to someone when they weren’t. Instead of regular narration like “Saffron wore a red dress,” it would say “YOU wore a red dress.” It just wasn’t my style.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
my second book buy this author and very much enjoyed i love a twisty book. Saffron is married to Miles and she loves him very much and her children . but the mother in law Caprice lives with them she was in a nice little flat built on house but she hated it but Caprice hates Saffron she not good enough for her son . she always blames Saffron but Miles can not see it ,Aiden Miles brother is in love with Saffron his marriage to Julie did not last ,then in comes the nanny Hayley and Caprice has a plan the twists and turns in this book so good what one women will do to get her own way i so recommend this book
The book itself is incredible and wonderful! However, this book was not even ready to be in the ARC state yet. It was confusing because often they would change narrators without indicating it and you would be in the middle of reading one persons side and transition to another person without evening knowing it. The stars would have five for content but I gave it four because I had to reread so often.
