Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
I absolutely loved loved loved this story.
5 Stars!
A World War II family generation that spans decades. Alot of key elements of the story in London, throughout the U.K. and in America.
The story follows the seemingly doomed romance of a heartbroken young man from a small town in Mississippi who enlists WW I and falls in love with a military nurse who helps repair his injured leg.
I really enjoyed this story.
I highly recommend reading it.

From the trenches of WWI to recovery in a military hospital in the suburbs of London and on to a small Mississippi town, this historical and captivating novel drops you into the lives of Peter and Elizabeth as they live through the emotional roller coaster of love lost.
The writing just flowed so easily and the story line was such that I read this book in less than 3 sittings!
A MUST for historical fiction fans!

This story starts out with Elizabeth and Peter meeting in the war and I found it very interesting. Then it veers away and becomes a romantic saga. It kept my interest and I enjoyed it but I do wish it would have had a bit more depth to the story.
I was impressed with Peter’s love for his son. Comes in with 4****’s.
I want to thank Books Fluent and NetGalley for the opportunity of an ARC for my review – this one comes on with 4****.

Lost Love’s Return is a somewhat difficult to evaluate novel. It’s a war story but also a love story and a portrait of a society in change. I enjoyed some parts of it but I had difficulty finding it a coherent whole and that is why I couldn’t give it a five-star rating.
The book deals essentially with the story of Peter Montgomery. A young boy from the American South, living in a small town and whose parents own the local mercantile, providing him with a comfortable life. He decides to do his duty, encouraged by his grandfather, and enlists to fight in WWI.
After he gets injured he meets Elizabeth, a nurse in the English hospital where he is staying and they fall in love. But the war is over and he has to get back to his own country. After some setbacks, they are separated and their lives will evolve in each country.
I really found the first part of the story truly engaging. The descriptions on the battlefield and in the hospital are griping and make you root for the protagonists’ happy conclusion. The second part is written in a different format, sometimes with many events in a few pages and then longer scenes that seem to drag more than necessary.
The last part, although it is called World War II is actually after the war and despite concluding the story feels a little flat and convenient. Some parts are well written but it lacks the vivacity of the first part and just drags to the end in predictable and slow motions.
I enjoyed the story and the book but I truly wished the last parts had added more dynamic to the story. Historical writing is difficult and the author managed to convey a good portrait of the period but it needed more development of the plot.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

What a wonderful love story! A young man from a small southern town enlist to fight in WWI. He quickly becomes accustomed to the brutality and horror of this war. When seriously injured after a heroic feat, he is transferred to an English Hospital where he falls in love with a British nurse. After a mixup in communication, he returns to America and unable to communicate with her. Years later, his own son returns to Europe to fight in WWII, and is able to find her and reunite his father with the love of his wife. I loved the book and will strongly recommend.

With thanks to netgalley for an early copy in return for an honest opinion.
I haven't team anything by this author before but I was delighted with such a great book taking us over many years with Elizabeth and Peter when they first met and the inbetween years when life was hard for both of them till Peter decided to go back to the UK and find Elizabeth and see if the love he had then and had carried with him all these years was still the same quite a magical story in many ways most of us are never given that second chance a wonderful read that I can highly recommend.
