What a wild ride! Almost everyone in this book is awful & yet, I couldn’t get enough of them.. Like a slow, twisty train wreck.. This story starts slow, but builds to amazing twists & turns.. I could not put it down!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book in advance in exchange for an honest review!

Whew! This. Book. Has. EVERYTHING. Twists. Turns. Secrets. Betrayal. Drama. White women making terrible decisions and white men being generally terrible.

For real, I had a hell of a good time. I won't lie, it did take me a bit to get into this book. It's paced rather slowly, at least at the beginning. But the pay off... The pay off is so worth it.

Did I like the characters? No, not really. I had issues with nearly everyone, save for Katie. Katie, I really enjoyed. But I found each character grounded, even as the story grew more and more ridiculous and dramatic.

Did I see some of the twists coming? Kind of. But I read a lot of mysteries and true crime. And truthfully, they played out a little differently on the page than in my predictions anyway, so in any case... They were well-executed, in my opinion.

And that ending... I won't spoil it, but I found it to pay off pretty well, which is A LOT more than I can say for a lot of the mystery/thrillers I've read lately.

This is a book I wouldn't mind seeing played out on the screen, honestly. I will probably purchase and reread the physical copy of this next year, once I am able to get my hands on it.

Greenwich Park
by Katherine Faulkner
Pub Date: January 25, 2022
Gallery Books

A twisty, whip-smart debut thriller, as electrifying as the #1 New York Times bestseller The Girl on the Train, about impending motherhood, unreliable friendship, and the high price of keeping secrets. I was drawn to this book because it is a thriller. However, I found myself checking my progress, way too much, because I felt like the book dragged. Too Much detail. Slow read.
Thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC. I cannot recommend this book.

Greenwich Park by Katherine Faulkner is a hotly anticipated thriller of 2022 and I was lucky enough to receive a digital ARC via NetGalley. I tore through this book at lightning speed because the writing is just that compelling.

The book opens with Helen who is eagerly awaiting the birth of her first child after multiple miscarriages. She and her husband Daniel are supposed to begin prenatal classes together along with Helen's brother Rory and his wife Serena who are also expecting their first child. As fate would have it, Helen ends up being the only person in the friend group who attends the classes and she begins a friendship with the enigmatic Rachel who she meets at the first class. Rachel keeps showing up wherever Helen goes in Greenwich Park and though Helen is unsettled at first she ultimately becomes close to Rachel.

As the plot develops the tension builds and it becomes clear that Rachel did not just happen upon a friendship with Helen. She is somehow connected not only to Helen, but to the entire family/friend group. Layers of secrets, betrayals, and twisted motives unravel as the chapters alternate perspectives between the women of the novel. Each chapter leaves you with an itch to read just one more chapter and friends, isn't that the hallmark of a great thriller?

This is a debut for Katherine Faulkner so I look forward to more great books from her in the future. Look for this title from your favorite bookseller on January 25, 2022. Many thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I love a good domestic thriller, but sometimes I feel like a lot of great books in this sub genre get labeled as predictable. While I don’t agree, I get how folks can feel that way. Usually there’s only a limited amount of formulas within an intimate relationship or family to work with. When I’m reading domestic thrillers I expect a certain level of predictability, but with a good story there’s always room for unexpected twists.

Greenwich Park gave me everything I look for in a great domestic thriller. It was dramatic, had several great plot twists, and a great ending. I wouldn’t call the ending predictable, but I would say it was satisfying in that I didn’t completely guess the ending - and it actually made sense. Nothing ruins a thriller for me more than when the “bad guy” at the end is random and doesn’t seem to fit into the rest of the story.

The characters though! At first I didn’t care for our protagonist, Helen. She grew on me, but I did feel bad for her. I didn’t find her actions unrealistic, but she just made choices that could simply never be me. Befriending a pregnant lady who won’t stop smoking and drinking? Nope. Having them come stay in your home on your anniversary with no check out date? Absolutely no. The Taurus in me would quite literally never.

Bad decisions made by characters aside, I loved this book. If you’re a domestic thriller fan, this is an automatic add for your TBR.

GREENWICH PARK
BY: KATHERINE FAULKNER

I was expecting a domestic nosy neighbors like trope so when I realized that this had all the elements of something more sinister suggesting a thriller or at the very least an addictive, page turning psychological thriller I was very much in for the ride. And oh this was so, so good! It took me a little longer to decide if I was going to love this because the vernacular was British. After a few chapters into it I realized that Katherine Faulkner, the Author, who has a History degree from Cambridge University had drawn me into this completely. I read this compulsively after that and thought that I was quite grateful to be reading such an excellent Debut novel. After being in a reading slump for sometime about neighbors who kept secrets in posh homes with cracks in their surfaces behind close doors I was quite gratified to find that this was the real deal. A creepy but not horror chilling mystery about a questionable cling on friend named Rachael who I knew had an ulterior motive for consistently just by coincidence popping up everywhere Helen was.

It all starts out slowly and I admit this took a little while for me to love this one but love it I did! Helen is at her local prenatal class disappointed because not only does her husband Daniel fail to join her there but also her brother Rory and her sister-in-law Serena who is also pregnant around the same due date's fail to show up. Helen was looking forward to their attendance and feels totally out of place without a partner. Everybody else to Helen's let down are husband and wives together except her...until the young and scrappy lower class Rachael enters and zeros in on Helen. Rachel swears, drinks and smokes and she is supposedly pregnant. Rachael as a mother-to-be doesn't seem very concerned for her baby's welfare and she is like a heat seeking missile showing up everywhere Helen is after that prenatal class. Helen who is very lonely because her husband Daniel is always working and has had several miscarriages seems to think Rachael's coincidental appearances could just be just that and slowly lowers her guard and let's Rachael into her life. Rachael confides to Helen that the father of her baby is out of the picture since she had an affair with a married man.

Who is Rachael, really? What does she want from Helen? How does she know where Helen is going to be going and how is she able to just be at Helen's destination over and over? Rachael is suddenly appearing at the crowded cafe where there aren't any more tables and Rachael has the table Helen would have chosen. Helen is meeting her friend Katie for lunch and Rachael jumps up and offers them her table. She is invited to join them by Katie. Rachael even offers to pay for every bodies lunch with her wallet stuffed with Fifty pound notes. How is it that she knew Helen and Katie were having lunch there? Rachael is anonymous and she keeps masterfully manipulating Helen's feelings to feel sorry for Rachael and allowing her to keep ingratiating herself now into Helen's home begging to come inside because she has a crises. Helen finds herself letting Rachael stay with her and Daniel on their anniversary.

I really liked Helen and felt sorry for her because she had a history of miscarriages and wants nothing more than to have her baby and live peacefully. Helen is a nice person who is empathetic to Rachael. I really liked Katie also because she is bright, independent and not so easily fooled or conned. I had to go back and read the last 10% twice because the ending was confusing at first but after a second read BRILLIANT! I never quite warmed up to Serena and often wondered why she as Helen's brother Rory's wife would want to be so cold to Helen. It all made sense after I finished the book and the way things concluded wasn't what I was hoping it did ultimate make me happy after reading the final sentence.

I highly recommend this to all reader's who love a great psychological thriller or this more fits into the thriller genre and it was excellent. If Katherine Faulkner can write such a fantastic debut you can bet I am going to be keeping an eye out and will be excited to read whatever she writes in the future. I loved this! It by far exceeded my expectations on being better than what I thought it would be initially. I am sort of sad that it is read and know that what awaits me won't be as wonderful as this was. Again, a slow start but it didn't take long for me to get completely captivated. It was longer then I usually would like but I didn't mind not one bit. I thought that this read quickly and I read most in one sitting and quickly finished the last 30% this morning. Normally I wouldn't be so immersed in a thriller this length, but this one kept my attention and I was never bored or thought that it dragged at all! This is definitely a favorite and one that I will be spreading the word to thriller fans to JUST READ IT! Enjoy!!!!! Deliciously twisty and was entertaining. Just Pure Fun!

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun mystery that is impossible to figure out. The characters are believable and wonderfully flawed. I picked villain after villain only to be wrong in the end. And what a fabulous ending it was.

There are so many things that I loved about this book! The timeline was based on how pregnant Helen was starting at 20ish weeks, and I thought that worked very well. There were different perspectives throughout so each chapter was from Helen, Serena, and Katie. Lastly, the chapters ended in a way that you had to read the next chapter. It was a hard book to put down, and I love the final twist at the end! The few things that I did not love included: the chapters about Greenwich Park and the sudden jumps in timeline towards the end. Overall, I would highly recommend this book!

This debut novel is UH-MAZING! I am so thankful @NetGalley approved me for this thriller in exchange for my honest review!

It was hard to put down, addictive and fast paced! Poor Hellen is a gullible pregnant wife who becomes friends with another pregnant woman, Rachel that she met in her prenatal class, who smokes and drinks and seems lonely. Rachel starts showing up at all the places Hellen frequents and seems to be pretty intense- I was getting stalkerish vibes. Rachel has some sinister plans for Hellen, her husband and brother. I loved the build up to the climax- and the twists that pop up when you least expect them!

It is told from Hellen, Kate (Hellen’s brother Charlie’s girlfriend), and Serena (Hellen’s brother Rory’s wife) POV. The timeline starts when Hellen is 24 weeks pregnant, and goes through to a year after the birth.

❗️You guys- the ending…..HOLY SH*T! ❗️

The book definitely had its high points, but overall I thought it was a bit predictable. I figured the ending out pretty early on, but there were a few details I didn't suspect that made the ending enjoyable. There were a few issues with the pacing as well. I did quite enjoy the multiple POVs and the few chapters thrown in written from a mysterious point of view. I struggled to like any of the characters, Helen especially, which I think made it for a novel that didn't overall stick with me very well. This would be a great novel for someone new to mysteries or thrillers!

*check trigger warnings*

Helen and her husband, Daniel, live a life in the privileged neighborhood of Greenwich Park. Although she hasn't had a great few years, she is looking pregnant and living close to her brother and best friend, so overall things are looking up! Helen joins a prenatal class to get more educated on the upcoming arrival of her first child. Not knowing what to expect, she meets Rachel, another expecting mom who stands out from the typical crowd in this part of London. Although she is far from what we would consider maternal, Helen finds herself drawn to Rachel. And when she keeps bumping into her, she finds Rachel integrating further and further in to her life. As distance grows between Helen and everyone around her, Rachel seems to be the constant in her life. Until Helen starts discovering things and quickly realizes something isn't right. Who is this women and why did she end up in Helen's life? Maybe life at Greenwich Park isn't as great as it seems...

Trigger warnings: mention of rape, child lose, miscarriage

This book is about Helen - who is pregnant, lives in a beautiful house with her loving husband Daniel. She attends a prenatal class where she meets Rachel - a young, crass, pregnant woman and the two become uneasy friends.

Also in the story are Helen's older brother Rory and his beautiful wife Serena of whom Helen is envious. Helen also has a younger brother - Charlie - who's dating Helen's friend Katie.

All of these stories and characters continue to intersect as Helen's friendship with Rachel takes a turn. Rachel is also definitely not who she seems.

Hailed as the next Girl on the Train - this book definitely had its high points. While I didn't love Helen and the whole unreliable woman narrator trope is getting a bit old, but overall, this book definitely kept me intrigued. Pretty much read it over one sitting. I will say also that the twist at the end - was not as twisty and mind blowing as I expected based on the reviews. I also really couldn't get behind Helen and how naive she was about certain things like money and how friendships should work. She's definitely not my favorite character but I actually quite liked Rachel and ended up rooting for her.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for gifting me a digital ARC of the debut novel by Katherine Faulkner - 4.5 stars for a twisty mystery. Can't wait to read more from this author!

Two couples have been friends since university - Daniel and Helen, and Rory and Serena. Both Helen and Serena are pregnant at the same time and scheduled to attend the same prenatal class. But Serena decides on a different class at the last minute and Daniel is tied up with work, so Helen attends by herself. She meets Rachel there and they become friends. Helen enjoys having someone to hang around with while she is off work due to her high-risk pregnancy. But suddenly Rachel needs a place to stay temporarily and things become a bit messy.

The less said the better - you'll enjoy this mystery more if you go in somewhat blind. The book is told from 3 different points of view which provides lots of insight into the story. I loved the mix of past and present mysteries and the dynamics between all the characters. Helen was a bit naive and makes questionable choices, but you could feel her loneliness and understand her being drawn to a new friend. Hold on for that last chapter that wraps everything up! And that gorgeous cover - swoon!

So this was a little all over the place, but honestly it works in the end. The book jumps around a lot and it's hard to trace some stuff, but after we get to the 60 percent point things start to hang together. The ending/reveal was a surprise and I liked it.

"Greenwich Park" follows mom to be, Helen. Helen is happily married to Daniel and after some disappointing miscarriages, it seems her latest pregnancy will go okay. Even though her husband seems distant, and something at his firm with her brother Rory seems to be stressing him out. Helen feeling a bit lost meets another mom to be, Rachel, at her pre-natal class. Before she knows it, she is hanging out with Rachel all of the time, and Rachel has somehow moved into her home. When Rachel disappears though, the police, and Helen's friends wonder what happened to Rachel and could it be linked back to something that happened years ago.

Faulkner follows Helen, her sister in law, Serena, and her other brother's girlfriend Katie throughout this book. We also get some quick chapters with an unknown narrator at times too.

I thought Helen was a bit of a mess and unreliable narrator. But as the book goes on you start to realize something is going on there. Something not good.

I actually felt for Serena throughout the book since Helen seems exhausting, and she realizes something is up with her husband.

Katie is kind of the audience stand-in. She's a reporter delving into a case of rape and meeting a detective who is leading that case. And then she starts to investigate when Rachel goes missing.

I thought the writing at times was quite lyrical and I thought Helen's points of views more than most puts you into the book at times.

The flow though was a bit off here and there as I started off. I didn't know where things were going, but started to feel annoyed by Helen. But as I kept reading I found myself becoming more engaged in the story and wanting to know what was going on with Rachel and how she tied into these other people in this book.

The setting of Greenwich Park at times feels magical and then sinister. Helen's home which she is so proud of at times seems as if it is falling apart and I just thought that was a pretty nice sense of symbolism as she tries to keep it clean, but someone is always dirtying it up.

The ending was very good. You get a partial reveal and then you things are over until you get to the final chapter. Then things come out in the open and you feel a bit like you were had.

Greenwich Park is the debut novel by Katherine Faulkner, it is a solid thriller with a slow burn of a beginning that will have you glued to the pages to see where Katherine is taking you. Just when I thought I knew it all Katherine pulled the wool over my eyes with a big "unknown" (sorry trying not to give anything away). I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to see what else Katherine writes!

Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery books for this advance readers copy. I found this to be a solid thriller from a debut author. It began as a slow burn, and there were breadcrumb clues dropped along the way. It picked up a little over halfway through. Every time you thought you were on the right track, you learned something new. You are able to have a grasp on who the villains are early on, but I didn’t predict the way it all unfolded. It was a great debut novel and I will be looking forward to more books from Faulker.

At first glance, we see privileged couples who after some personal struggles are thriving and finally achieving some bliss. Little do they know that is all about to change.

The storyline features three siblings and their partners in a clever multi-POV narrative style.
Tension builds as we discover how past mistakes become a painful new thread in this extended family . . . so tightly weaving those sins into the here and now.

The last section of this debut novel contains a big reveal, so be patient and enjoy the ride.

Overall, delving into this slow-burn suspense was a good way to spend a crisp fall day and I hope to see more titles from Katherine Faulkner.

I'd like to thank NetGalley and Gallery Books for an advanced copy of Greenwich Park for my unbiased evaluation. 3.5 stars

I've seen so much buzz around Greenwich Park online, so I was so excited to receive an ARC last week. Faulkner's first novel centers on Helen, a young woman finally pregnant with her child after suffering numerous losses (so content warning on that one). When her sister-in-law bails on her for a childbirth class, Helen meets Rachel instead, a young pregnant woman who demands a lot of attention from her and begins inserting herself into Helen's life. Faulker does a good job of establishing the scene and leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for the reader to follow. However, I found Helen to be such a flat and uninteresting character. We don't really see her develop, which kept me from getting invested in the book. And as other reviewers have said, Rachel is the most annoying character almost to the point of distraction.

Ultimately, I think there's a lot of potential in Faulkner's writing, and I look forward to reading her next book even if this one didn't hit quite right for me.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC of this book.

What an amazing read! Helen is about to have a baby and it is important to her that she does everything right, after a couple miscarriages. She doesn't drink alcohol or caffeine, she is careful and she signs up for a prenatal birthing class. That's when all her careful planning begins to fall apart. Her husband, Daniel and her brother Rory with his wife Serena, also expecting a baby near the same time, back out of attending the class with her. Alone and nervous Helen is approached by another expectant mother, Rachel. Helen begins to see Rachel all over the neighborhood, she can't seem to get away. With her anxiety about her baby and the added stress of home renovation going on at the same time, Helen can't take much more....then Rachel disappears and Helen is left wondering who she can trust. Husband, brothers, sister-in-law are all keeping secrets. Even when the mysteries all seem to be explained the final sentence of the story will shock you. That was a great final touch.
Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for the opportunity to enjoy this twist filled thriller e-ARC.
