This story takes a delicate subject and delves right in. What if revenge makes more sense than reporting a crime? A book that faces the reality when a rape occurs especially when the perpetrator is well off or well liked. All the stigmas a girl can face when something of this magnitude happens can be overwhelming. This author told Claudias story with a realism that made the book a great read. Great characters, a sensitive plot and a story that plays out in a satisfying manner.

The Missing Hours is a fast paced thriller with many morally grey characters. I liked the premise of the the novel and thought it was executed well! From the first page, it immediately pulled me in and I was hooked. Though, I found some parts to be unnecessary to the story and slowed it down a bit but, it didn't affect my reading experience.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher of this Kindle ARC. While I appreciate the intent of this novel, it really felt like it was for young adults - and maybe it was my misunderstanding in requesting it. I can't recommend it as school material, since the subject matter involves rape. I could probably recommend it to older teens and young adults. I didn't enjoy the writing style, I am sorry to say.

This one is going to be a pass for me. Such a relevant and interesting topic, but not executed very well. The characters were hard to connect to, their reactions were implausible, and overall it did not feel authentic.

Claudia Castro is a wealthy college student and the daughter of a famous musician. After a night of drinking leads to a sexual assault, Claudia disappears. This is a fast paced story that’s very engaging and readable. Despite this, the story fell a little flat for me. The characters are hard to root for and are constantly making bad choices. There are certain parts and characters that are focused on and don’t contribute much to the story, which really slows down the momentum of the book. The ending leaves a lot unresolved. Overall, I thought this book was just okay. Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I actually really enjoyed this book. Since the mystery of what happened was explained early on, I was trying to figure out what the author would build up to; however I felt she did a good job. The storyline held my attention. I did not like the victim blaming, however that’s a societal issue not one with the author, who did well in showing the different feelings and thoughts a victim can have and just because one does not act like another does not mean something did not happen, everyone processed trauma differently. I also liked the ripple effect and the repercussions trauma can have on family and friends.

I loved this thriller. I started it not knowing anything about it. I hadn't read the synopsis. Claudia is raped and filmed one nifjt after drinking too much. Revenge, secrets, money, cover up all come into to play in this wild ride of a book. A must read that will keep you on edge until the end.

A horrifying tale of a rape of a young woman who is. both inexperienced and jaded. Because of her privilege and her fears of being in the limelight, she takes a different path from other rape victims. A fast-moving hard to put down story that will leave you thinking about families and how they function.

I was given an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

This is a fast-paced book about a female college student (Claudia). She is privileged, the product of a wealthy couple. And she is promiscuous, as so many characters are in this book, men and women, young and old. Claudia becomes the subject of a viral video, performing unspeakable acts that bring about much personal embarrassment. Claudia does not remember how what happened nor how this happened. But she needs to get to the bottom of this to try to begin restoring her reputation.

This is a thriller more than a mystery. There are many other characters in the book, other college students and their parents, none of whom inspire the reader to like them. And many of them are not essential to the plot.

This ends up being a pretty dark book. I kept wondering if something positive would come out of all the trouble the victim and her perpetrators had created, but the conclusion of the book was consistent with the behavior that the characters displayed throughout the book. Foolish behavior can be ruinous.

In THE MISSING HOURS, Dahl takes us inside of one woman's rape experience - how it affects her, her family and a random guy down the hall who becomes emmeshed in the aftermath. After Claudia Castro wakes up in her dorm room, her face beaten, her body torn, she has no memory of what happened to her, but she knows it wasn't good. When she discovers what did happen, she realizes her life, her inner self, will never be the same - and she wants to get even. Great writing, great characters and a believable story, THE MISSING HOURS ticks all the boxes for a great, fast-paced read. Really, really hard to put down!

Packed to the rim thriller! It’s reminiscent of a true crime you’d hear about in the news or on a podcast making it relatable. It’s a fast paced winner for the masses.

Rich kid Claudia attends NYU, and during spring break has a night out with friends. When she awakens the next day, she can’t remember much of the events of the prior night, until a sickening video is posted online, and Claudia disappears. The Missing Hours explores a lot of themes, and I don’t want to spoil any plot details, but it’s a quick read. There’s a lot of characters to keep track of, which can be confusing, and there’s a bit too much background info on minor characters that doesn’t really add to the storyline, and that unnecessarily slows things down. It’s a decent thriller, but the characters are mostly unlikable and hard to root for, which is disappointing since we should feel empathy and outrage for the protagonist, but the author makes her so flawed that it’s difficult to do so. It’s a topical story that’s relevant and worth a read. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

One of the best thrillers I’ve read this year. If you love true crime or true crime podcast this is the book for you. It reads very much like a mystery story that you would hear on a podcast.

Absolutely this is addictive one sit read! As soon as you start, you never want to put it down! So you’d better cancel everything in your life if you have quality time with this mind numbing, truly soul shaking, intense story!

The terrifying opening of the book already freezes your blood. Claudia returns back to her dorm room. Her skirt was bunched around her waist as her underwear was already gone, feeling soreness, agitation, fear at the same time, looking at her face in the mirror of bathroom. Her lip was split and bled on her chin, her right eyelid was purple, swollen half shut. You can fill the blanks about what happened to her! But she cannot. There are missing hours in her mind that she cannot recall!

One alcohol induced night just like most college students have resulted with the tragedy.

And the worst part is there is a video on social media can graphically tell the trauma she’s been endured!

At the next chapter we’re introduced to Edie, Claudia’s sister gives birth to her child, suffering from tremendous panic, keeps asking her sister. They keep calling but she doesn’t return their calls. Edie gets pissed after seeing her social media account shows she was partying, getting drunk. Of course she has no idea how her sister’s night ended and her phone is missing.

At the following chapters, we learn more about sisters’ lives, coming from wealthy, happy family and they seem like have it all. But their parents are divorcing and Claudia tries to discover her true talent by isolating herself from her family as Edie is having a baby of a man she barely knows.
NYU can give Claudia the best shot to recreate herself. She seems like a privileged, popular girl with so many social media followers but she’s crumbling inside and after the assault, she completely cut her relationships with her family, befriending her dorm neighbor Trevor who is helping her from the beginning, bringing medicine and food, taking her to the clinic.

We gather the pieces of terrible night as Claudia gather broken pieces of herself by rediscovering how she could deal with the assault and what she will do for the rest of her life.

This is fast pacing, effective, impactful, engaging, heart wrenching story of a young woman and her dysfunctional relationships with her family. The conclusion of the story was well wrapped up.

I’m giving four addictive, riveting, dazzling stars.

Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/ Minotaur Books for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

This was a quick and interesting read. At times it was a bit hard to read due to the material it talked about, but in a very good way. This is a book that made me think and a book that can create good conversations on tough subject matters. One of the best parts of this book was the varying points of views. I also enjoyed the way we got little flashbacks or explanations of the past so we learned a little bit about each of the people whose point of views we were reading at the time.

I loved Dahl’s earlier novels so I was excited to read this book. Honestly, my disappointment is palpable. It is a violent and overly sexual book about a little rich girl caught on a porn tape, being raped, and trying to escape her shame. Grrr, not very original. Even the names of the rapists, Chad and Jeremy, made me laugh at the lack of originality when I thought about the duo from the 1960’s.

There is so much wrong with this book that I can’t detail all of it. I am so sorry that Dahl has wasted her talent on this mess.

Thank you Netgalley for this opportunity to read a book that I eagerly anticipated.
