Wow! Another great entry in the Sunshine Vicram series of books. I received an advance reader copy of the book in exchange for a review and that in no way has any bearing on my review of this book. This book picks up where the first one left off and continues with the back and forth between Sunshine and Levi and Hailey as well. Auri and Cruz have their own adventures as well. Look forward to the next book in this series
I always tell myself to take my time when I pick up a book like this ... and the. I ignore myself and notice the sun is coming up and the book is finished
This is one of those books you sit down and forget anything else is going on. Sleep? Food? Responsibilities? Non-existent.
Darynda writes characters you want to meet and become best friends with. The bonus? These new friends come with humor, sarcasm, touching moments and adventure aplenty.
I can’t wait for #3 ...
Sheriff Sunshine Vicram is back in the second installment of the hilarious series that bears her name. A few months have passed since we last saw Sun, and since then her parents managed to con her into going on some really terrible blind dates. The current one is definitely the worst, so it's a huge relief when her deputy calls with an emergency, cutting the date short. A raccoon emergency. At his own house. But hey, it got her out of a creepy coffee date, so there's that!
All too soon her attention is diverted from Randy the Attack Raccoon to a stabbing and hit-and-run at the bar owned by Levi Ravinder, the man she's been in love with since childhood. One man is taken to the ICU, one refuses medical treatment, and a third has his body dumped down a nearby ravine. But before she heads out to track down witnesses to an altercation between the stabbing victim and unknown assailants earlier in the day, Sun receives a message from one of Levi's uncles, claiming to have information about her abduction 15 years ago, and her destination changes. Upon returning to Del Sol, Sunshine is stunned to recognize the face of a young kidnapping victim on security camera footage from the previous day--a child who went missing years ago. Meanwhile, Sun's daughter Auri decides to enlist the help of her boyfriend and best friend in investigating a serial killer from decades ago.
I absolutely LOVED this book. The witty, snappy dialogue and multiple plot threads interwove with tender personal moments. One minute I was laughing out loud, and the next (OK, mostly later in the book) I was sobbing and trying to explain to my kids why Mommy was so sad. I am grateful some questions from the first book were answered or at least partially resolved, even if the answers to the biggest were completely obvious the entire time to everyone but Sun. As per usual, the breakneck pace made putting my iPad down nearly impossible. Plus, I just wanted to spend more time with the characters. And hug them. And join the secret club.
For readers' advisors: story, character, and language are all very strong doorways. There is quite a lot of swearing, some sexual content, some on- and off-screen violence, some alcohol, and a couple of scenes where children or teens are in danger (they survive).
Many many thanks to NetGalley, Darynda Jones, and St. Martin's Publishing Group for letting me read an eGalley copy in exchange for my honest review. Um, when does the next book come out? Is it soon? Please may I read it right away? Please??
I have been in a book reading slump the past several months. Then I got an ARC of A Good Day for Chardonnay! I started reading it and got sucked back into Sunshine’s world. This book did not disappoint my expectations at all. I loved every minute of reading this and I can not wait until it is released and I can listen to it too!
A really wonderful series.I was drawn right back in by the characters the story,Mystery humor look forward to more books in the series.#netgalley #st.martins
Sweet holy guacamole! I’ve only cried for one other Darynda Jones book...the last 25% of this had me bawling. Please tell me we get at least one more?! I am just as in love with Levi as Sunshine is and we all need to know how this ending is going to play out! This has been one of my most looked forward to series since Charley and BDB. Absolutely one of my favorites in this genre!
Another fun book from Jones. Sunshine is a character! This book just flew, I read it in one sitting. There were major series mysteries revealed, which I enjoyed, The town has more colorful characters than you can shake a stick at but somehow Darynda makes it work. This book had more of Aurora than I wanted but it was in service to the plot. I can’t wait for more Sunshine!
First off I received a free e-ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Once again I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love the relationship that Auri and Sunshine have. Also that that whole family has together, that is love right there. The Quincy and Sunshine wine night was just amusing as heck. Sybil is getting a nice story line fleshing out also. It was so fun to see many of the same characters come back. I like how Sunshine is sassy. So Sassy. Levi still steamy lol. I will say I can't wait for her to remember the thing told about when the book ended. I am so excited to see where the story goes. But omg Cruz, my heart was breaking several times for him and so many tears. I can't wait to read more of this series and it is already too long that I have to wait for the next one since this one is not even published yet.
Always a good time and a great new series. Fun, breezy read. A great beach or pool read. Can’t wait till the next one
Sunshine, Auri and the gang are back and at it again. And I found this book even more enjoyable than the first.
Auri's in on the action chasing a serial killer and the antics that come from that are priceless. She has the help of her two friends and their investigation is fun to read.
The banter and spark between Sunshine and Levi is so good. I definitely root for them as a couple!
Quincy is an amazing sidekick and the cast of characters brings wit, sarcasm and sass to the story.
I am definitely looking forward to the next installment!
A Good Day for Chardonnay is a laugh fest with quirky, fun characters, and some impressively, sizzling chemistry between our heroine and the local bad boy. Sunny Vicram juggles her sheriff duties with being a parent to a wisecracking teenager both being full time jobs. Her parents keep setting her up on crappy blind dates. Her longtime crush, local bad boy Levi is her lead suspect in her newest case. And everyone wants to confess to killing her abductor. Plus Sunny's kid is sneaking out to try and catch a serial killer. Sunny's life is pure chaos wrapped in a blanket of suspenseful humor and the best time I have had reading a series in a long time. Darynda Jones adds the fun to reading and always keeps you coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
This is a must read that the reader will not be able to put down! The way the author tells this story, it hits every single emotion. This story seamlessly starts where the first book ended. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and feel all the feels while being immersed in a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. A perfect story.
Another action packed book from Darynda Jones!
This is book 2 in the series, and while book 1 will help give you context, I think you could jump in to book 2 with no trouble. This is full of action, adventure, drama and more. The characters are great - from the main characters to the supporting characters - there is depth and action all around. Book 3 can't come fast enough!
This second book in the series is great. I love the dialogue and interaction between the characters. The sometimes snarky remarks are laugh out loud funny. At times there seems to be too many threads to the plot but amazingly all the dangling threads are woven into the story before it ends, well almost all. There needs to be something to look forward to in the next book, right?
A toast to Darynda Jones for giving us a warm and funny story. Sun Vicram, the newly elected sheriff in New Mexico finds herself along with her teen-age daughter, Auri, involved in multiple mysteries. The underlying theme running through the story is what happened when Sun was abducted when she was a teenager and who is the father of her daughter. A captivating story that is highlighted by amusing advertisements at the beginning of each chapter. A great read.
In this book we catch up with police chief Sunshine and her crew. Even tho this book starts out slow, it ends up a page turner. Sunshine is a strong tough woman and her daughter Auri is the same. In fact I thought Auri just about stole the whole book. There’s a few side stories that are interesting and add to what’s going on.
I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early
***Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
I don't think I have ever loved characters as much as I do these ones. Though the plot has some serious undertones and can be violent, the hilariousness of the banter and town in general makes this an amazing series: one I can't wait to keep reading.
A Good Day for Chardonnay is the second in Darynda Jones’ Sunshine Vicram mystery series, which is fast becoming one of my most anticipated book releases! Sheriff Sunny Vicram is experiencing a very active week in her small New Mexico town with stabbings, teenagers carrying out their own crime investigations, and the Mayor demanding that Sunny identify the Dangerous Daughters.
The characters in this series are delightful, quirky and laugh-out-loud funny. They are the type of people that you would love to have as friends, even as you realize that they would always be getting you into trouble! The relationships add a bit of sizzle and a lot of anticipation to the storyline. The three distinct mysteries, with a few cliff hangers thrown in, were tightly plotted and made for an exciting and twisty read.
I enjoyed every aspect of this book and turned the last page feeling satisfied and happy. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.)
A Good Day for Chardonnay is a great representation of Jones' flair for combining humor, mystery, and emotion into a fun, and engaging read. It's easy to finish one of Jones' books in one sitting, because there is always so much going on, and rarely a dull moment, but this book only gets 4 stars from me, because this one felt a bit long. There is a moment in the plot where you think the story is done, only to realize you have more than 100 pages to go. Also, I cannot get over how long it took for the main character to figure out a rather important detail about her life, based solely on the way Jones framed the situation. Thank goodness, Jones gives it somewhat of a conclusion by the end of the book, because her cluelessness was getting a bit painful to read.
All in all, I know before I go into a James book that I am going to laugh, gasp and have a good time, and isn't that what we all want from a book that is meant to entertain us?
Another great read by Darynda Jones. I really love this series! I did not want the book to end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
