Cat discovers her picture on the news as a person of interest in a murder. But she didn't do it and was otherwise engaged at the time. Who would have given her description to the police? But who knew the secret she shared with the murder victim who she hadn't seen in the 17 years since they left high school? This all sounds like the beginning of an amazing thriller but unfortunately it fell a little flat. Cat's character was just annoying and unlikable, there were a couple of interesting twists, but no real zingers, and the grand final reveals lacked any real WOW! factor.

All and all it was enjoyable, and a short quick read. Just not the kind of psychological thriller that I'll be thinking about later.

Cats husband has left her and she is trying to raise her little boy as a single mother and is struggling. Then she sees a photofit of a murder suspect on tv and it is the image of her! Life is about to get much worse. The victim is an old schoolfriend of hers that she has not seen in years. The police are very suspicious of her so she sets about finding who the murderer is and why they are setting her up.
This book is full of tension and I had no idea who the culprit was until the last few pages. It hops between two timelines, the present and the time when Cat and Charlie were friends. This helps the story along and explains the reason why.

Destroy Me by Karen Cole is a thoroughly compulsive read that kept me gripped from the very first page. Having enjoyed all of Ms Cole's previous novels, I will venture to say that this is, arguably, her best yet.

Cat, a recently separated mother of a young son, is shocked to see a photofit of herself on the news as a suspect in the murder of a local woman. Making the situation even more bizarre, the victim is Cat's childhood friend, Charlie, the one person who shared knowledge of a past that the two women have tried for years to keep buried.

I was hooked on this story from the beginning, lured in immediately by the intriguing and tantalizing premise. There is nothing I love more than a narrator whose reliability is called into question again and again, and I could not stop reading until all was revealed. Ms Cole has become a must read author for me, and I wait impatiently for whatever her clever mind turns out next.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quercus Books for an ARC.

This is a great read and a well detailed plot that kept me engaged from the very start.
I really liked the well thought out characters and found them to be believable. I cannot wait to read what the author brings out next.

An excellent psychological thriller focusing on the problematic relationship of two old friends that is being brought to light in light of a terrifying accident.

Destroy Me was the first novel I've read by Karen Cole, and it definitely won't be my last! This book was incredibly hard to put down, and I finished it in a day. I liked the characters and the concept of the book, and like most of the books I really enjoy, it was full of secrets and twists. Destroy Me is an incredible thriller with a satisfying, surprising ending...thanks to NetGalley and Quercus Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review it. : )

2.25 Hearts Ok this is not the book for me. I really liked the concept. You are all over the news for murder but you know you didn’t do it so how can your picture be everywhere? And to make it worse the victim was your best friend? Sounds good, right?

Not really. I never cared about Cat at all. She was harsh and brash and just unlikeable if you ask me. And the pet thing was unnecessary and I have never liked when an animal is hurt.

There was so much potential with this story. If the character had been worth our worry maybe I would have liked it more.

Cat is a newly single mother to her young son, Dylan. One night, Cat sees herself on TV, in the form of a photofit (what I guess we’d call a sketch of a suspect in the US). The next thing Cat knows, she’s been drawn into a murder investigation- and not that of any random stranger. Cat’s best friend from her teen years, Charlie, has been murdered. Cat worries that this is just the beginning, as she and Charlie shared a secret that nobody else was supposed to know.

This book definitely kept my interest and I really enjoyed it. The characters were well-developed and enjoyable for the most part (it’s a thriller! Of course our characters might be a little more dark than you’d want in real life :) ).

The ending was also well-developed and leaves some to your imagination. Overall I loved it and would recommend it to other fans of thrillers!

Good read

A nice enough mystery where all of sudden a recently separated mother becomes the focus in a murder investigation based on a photo fit putting her at the scene of the crime and it turns out the victim is an old friend with whom she shared a terrible secret.
The idea was intrigueing and I managed to fly through this book, several plot twists are thrown the readers way so just when you think you've got it figured out something else comes up and you realise it's not quite as you expected.
On the downside there were some inconsistencies in the story and I could have done without the obssessive body shaming every 2 pages since in my opinion this didn't play a relevant role. At all.
The main character Cat was a person I severely disliked so the ending was unnecessary if you ask me, just one twist too many. But if you're looking for a fast paced mystery which will keep you guessing about the villain for a long time, this is the book for you.

A young woman is murdered. The police publish the photo of someone they want to speak to in connection with the murder. The photo is of Cat! The victim, her childhood best friend. Only problem is that Cat hasn't seen her since they left school. So who is trying to frame her?
This is a gripping fast paced thriller. It was easy to read, typical crime style but enjoyable.

A readable but predictable story with the protagonist hiding from dark secrets from her past which inevitably catch up with her. The story built suspense however there were too many coincidences for my liking and I found the mirroring between the protagonist and daisy’s mother a bit superficial and ill-thought out.

Had a hard time trying to stay engaged with this one. I'm glad i persevered though as the story got remarkable better the last few chapters.

Cat panics when she sees a photofit of a murder suspect flash up on the news. It looks exactly like her, and to make matters worse, the victim is her childhood best friend, Charlie. The following day, the police arrive at her doorstep to question her. She hadn't seen or spoken to Charlie in years, but could the secrets of their past finally be coming back to haunt her?Desperate to find out who gave the police her description and to protect her five-year-old son, Cat investigates. She knows she is innocent and will stop at nothing to prove it. But some secrets are best left buried...

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book. I have read all of Karen Cole’s books before and loved each one of them. I do feel a re-read coming on of some of them.

The thing I love most about Karen’s novels, is that they hook you right from the beginning. This book was read over one day. It was just so hard to put down!

The book is very fast paced and without giving any spoilers, a couple of characters certainly keep you intrigued!!

I really liked the ending, I thought that it all tied together perfect and as with all this author’s novels, I highly recommend this book.

Well, this was bad - naive and sloppy.

It was an easy and quick read, I'll give it that. It was mostly plot oriented and fast paced, so it was simple to go through and I wasn't bored so much reading it.

But, there were some really stupid decisions, sloppy doing, some very bad planning and plot wholes, and I just wanted to scream at the main character all the time.
Besides, she was way too obsessed with her looks and her weight and it wasn't at all relevant to her personality or to the plot that I have no idea why the author found that so important to push on every second page.

As I already said, I just couldn't bring myself to root for the main character as she was such a horrible person, and I found her even more disgusting after the final chapter.
And none of the things that she said or done made much sense to me.
For example, <spoiler>1. when her son went missing and she was told where he was supposed to be, she doesn't go to that person's house immediately. No, she goes home to think about it.
2. She wonders if the husband of a killed woman has seen the news and knows who the suspect is.
3. The husband of a killed woman works in the apartment in which she was killed in 5 days after the murder.
4. At one point she says that the brother of a killed child must be in his 20s, and then she says that a guy of 35ish is of the right age to be him.</spoiler>

Just way, waaaaaaaaaaaay too many nonsense here for me to have liked the book.

But it is a quick and fast-paced read, so by all means, give it a try!

I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I just sped through this one!
It's not my favourite book from this author but it was certainly an enjoyable one. Fast-paced, straight to the story, intriguing from the get go, and a scarily intense plot, this book had me on the edge of my seat throughout.
I didn't massively feel for Cat (at least not for the whole book), but I did feel sorry for 5-year-old Dylan. What a nightmare!
With plenty of clues, some sudden twists and turns, and a story that had me guessing the whole way through, I would definitely recommend this one.

This book had all the hallmarks of being a great psychological thriller and it did not disappoint (until the last couple of chapters which I felt were a bit of a let down for me, personally).

However, the story of Cat and who was out to get her raced along at a great pace and was certainly an edge of the sea read and I thought the layer upon layer of the story building up to the final reveal at the end was great. Lots of clues along the way, and certainly some pages that were filled with a mother's worst nightmare.

I will definitely look out for more books by Karen Cole, thanks NetGalley for introducing me to a new Author.

Imagine you're watching the evening news and a photo fit of your face is on screen and the police are interested in speaking to you about a murder. This is what happened to Catherine, and to make matters worse its an old school friend that's been murdered.
A quick easy read for me but a good thriller, just when I thought I'd worked out what was happening something else changed in the story to keep me guessing. This is another great book by Karen Cole
