Dorie Greenspan can do no wrong in my book. Her streak continues with this, her latest book..
Easy-to-follow recipes, beautiful photos, and Dorie's usual encouraging manner. There's something for everyone in here.
I've already made the Miso-Maple Loaf and the Crumb-Topped Ricotta Coffee Cake, and I already know I'll be returning to this book again and again!

What a fantastic collection of recipes! I really enjoyed reading this cookbook. Dorie writes a short intro, or story, for each recipe that leaves me wanting to try making each and every one in this book! Her recipes are well laid out, with helpful hints and tricks, detailed baking instructions, storage and freezing instructions, and there are suggestions for substitutions. The cookbook has beautiful, mouth watering photographs of many of the recipes. This would make an excellent addition to any baker's library!
Thank you Mariner Books for the advanced copy of this delightful cookbook!

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* this is a really great book to have in the kitchen, plan on buying myself one, lots of simple and easy to spice up recipes

* Greenspan, Dorie, Baking with Dorie offers something for the novice and the expert. A chapter on basics contains recipes for eight crusts and a simple one for confectioners’ sugar icing. For the experienced baker, there are exquisite savory recipes for Vegetable Ribbon Tart and Smoked Salmon Roll-Ups. Sweets include Gougeres, Tea and Honey Madeleines, Pistachio-Matcha Financiers, One Bite Cinnamon Puffs, and a Double-Decker Salted Caramel Cake. Breads, brioche, pies, muffins, scones, tarts, and cobblers—oh, my!

4 1/2 stars
I grew up in a home where holidays, birthdays, special occasions were all marked by the aroma of fragrant home cooking and baking. Definitely baking. Cookies, quick breads, cakes, pies, you name it; just the memory has me salivating. As I was reading through Dorie Greenspan’s Baking with Dorie I was taken back to that time and had this most incredible urge to start baking. I still do.
Baking with Dorie is the perfect baking book for nearly every stage of expertise and includes a variety of recipes for everyday breads to fruit pies, chocolaty desserts, and savory offerings perfect for dinner. There are recipes for desserts that you’ve heard of (pumpkin pie, cream puffs, apple pie albeit a mulled butter one) as well as for ones you might not have heard of (Szarlotka, a Polish dessert that seems like a combination of apple pie and cake and looks like complete yummy goodness; most definitely on my list to bake).
On the savory side, there were lots of recipes that I want to try like blue cheese bites, goat cheese-black pepper quick bread, potato-parm tart—I should probably stop listing now before I list the entire collection of savory recipes.
Most of the recipes include ideas for enhancement, which I love. Unlike my everyday cooking, I’ve always been intimidated about fooling around with baking. I remember the days when new bakers had cakes that did not rise. So it’s kind of fun to have these suggestions to alter the recipes.
My one gripe is probably because I am in that 1% of people who is not a chocolate fanatic. Call me old fashioned, but I like my chocolate eclairs with just a drizzle of chocolate over the top–not made with chocolate puff pastry, chocolate cream, and chocolate drizzle. That sounds more like punishment to me than an exquisite dessert. Most of the sweet recipes incorporate chocolate in some form (at least to this non-chocoholic most seemed to), which kind of made my interest fall a bit. But, like I said, unless you’re in that 1% with me, you probably won’t mind but will probably even welcome those recipes.
The photography is brilliant, drool-worthy, thanks to photographer Mark Weinberg.
I have been seriously cutting back on the number of books coming into my house (I need somewhere to sleep and walk and cook), but this one is probably finding a home very soon so that I can fill the house with sweet scents to welcome the Christmas season. This would be a great gift for the baking enthusiast in your life or a wannabe baking enthusiast.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars. I just love Dorie! Her recipes are gorgeous and not over complicated and I love reading her stories. There are so many amazing recipes in this book that i cannot wait to make and devour. I especially love all the French inspired recipes. Thank you to Netgalley and Mariner Books for the ARC.

This is a beautiful cookbook just chock full of gorgeous recipes. The photos are beautiful, and the recipes are well written, with lots of great tips and suggestions for variations by the author. But to me, the best cookbooks are those with plenty of recipes that sound delicious, that don't require lots of fussy hard-to-find ingredients, AND that taste amazing. This book fits that bill! I tested three recipes before reviewing, and they were all excellent. The Lemony Yogurt Muffins were possibly the best textured muffins I have ever baked. The Caramel Crunch-Chocolate Chunklet Cookies had a lovely taste and texture reminiscent of a good pecan sandy. The Park Avenue Brownies were rich, fudgy, and delicious! I like that every recipe includes weight of ingredients in grams for accuracy. I'm looking forward to trying more of the recipes!

When I first started enjoying time in the kitchen, it was through baking. Having a bit of sweet tooth, it appealed to me. Over time that expanded into all areas of cooking. Baking with Dorie by Dorie Greenspan has brought me back to why I loved baking so much. I love sharing desserts with others while getting to enjoy the treats myself too. Whether you bake because like me, you have a sweet-tooth, or you want to make a delicious ending for a wonderful family meal, or make bread for the first time, you will find it all inside this book. What I wasn’t expecting, was how many recipes felt nostalgic to me. From the delicious Raisin Bread that reminds me of my childhood, to the Lemon Cake you can eat for breakfast that reminds me of one stop on a trip overseas, or the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe that has now taken over as my tried-and-true recipe. I plan to try so many more recipes as I am inspired. Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a Copy through NetGalley For review.
This is a fantastic baking book.
And for once it's got stuff you'd actually want to bake and eat.
Most of the recipes aren't crazy complicated. They really feel like things I'd like to bake and the time would yield something really worth it.
This one took me longer to comb through because there were so many good recipes. I can't wait to try many of them, they sound delicious. It's a through, comprehensive book with a wide array of baking form savory, breakfast to decadent and sweet.

Dorie Greenspan's books are always good, and her recipes are always reliable. While this isn't one I'll be purchasing for my own collection, as her previous baking books are enough for me, it will definitely find a place on our library's shelf.

I must have been living under a rock because I had never heard of Dorie Greenspan before three weeks ago. I was watching YouTube one day, and her video with Food52 where she was making English muffins happened to pop up in my recommended list.
I enjoyed her personality and cooking style so much, I rushed to get her newest cookbook, Baking with Dorie: Sweet, Salty, and Simple.
When I saw the Swedish Fika Cake in the Baking with Dorie cookbook, I knew I just had to make it. It’s a single-layer cake made with almost two sticks of butter and a caramelized almond brittle topping that takes the simple cake over the top and tastes divine.
Like all of the recipes in Baking with Dorie, the Swedish Fika Cake is easy to follow, filled with personal insights and tips, and accompanied by gorgeous photos. I had all of the ingredients on hand and the recipe was, as promised, simple to make.
As soon as the cake was done, my husband and I had a little fika break of our own and devoured almost half of the cake. If the rest of the recipes are as good as this one — and I have a feeling they will be — I will be using this cookbook very, very often!

Dorie Greenspan is the most trusted cook and baker and cookbook author on my bookshelf. I rely heavily on Baking from My Home to Yours and Baking with Julia so I was thrilled beyond measure to see another generalist baking cookbook from her.
Last night I used three overripe bananas to make Banana Breakfast Squares. I added the oats but not the nuts or raisins, then tossed in some milk chocolate chips. It was a hit for breakfast this morning, kid-approved. I've already renamed it Banana muffin cake, sorry Dorie.
This is a staple cookbook and Dorie's recipes are the best.

Excellent baking book, as expected, from Dorie Greenspan. New takes on old favorites, all complemented by beautiful photography! Ever heard of Mulled Butter Apple Pie? Find the recipe inside! Greenspan takes everyday sticky buns to new tasty heights with her Brioche Sticky Buns. The thing I like about this book is that Greenspan thoughtfully included recipes that can be prepared for all parts of a meal. Her inclusion of the Potato-Parm Tart, the Mushroom, Herb, and Ricotta Tart, as well as the Double-Corn Tomato Crisp, make this book a well-rounded choice for anyone who wants to incorporate baked items into all aspects of their life. (And who wouldn't want to do that?!!)

Gorgeous book with clear instructions. Ingredient lists have both weight and volume. I really appreciated the savory chapter at the end of the book. This is a great book filled with both staple recipes and new twists that I will use for years to come.

Yes - you need this cookbook. I love everything about it - the photos, the way the chapters are laid out, the stories behind the recipes, the suggestions for variations on the recipes and, of course, THE RECIPES!! I received an advanced electronic copy of this cookbook and immediately knew I had to own a hard copy. I've tried several recipes (so far) and they have all been over-the-top delicious and the instructions were simple and easy to follow.
Thank you to Mariner Books and NetGalley for allowing me to view an advance copy of this cookbook. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

This cookbook has a wide range of baking recipes including a lot of savory recipies. This would be a great primer for a baker studying to be on the American version of the Great British Bakeoff!! Many of her recipes are rustic and the pictures reflect this.

This is a phenomenal all-around baking book!
I would honestly say that this book is such a must-own for anyone looking to bake or any lover of baking. It’s got precise instructions so that you can succeed with her recipes, but she’s also not overly fussy about making sure everything is exactly perfect. Her tips and instructions are easy to understand and don’t overcomplicate things. There are even step by step pictures for the more complex recipes. Plus, this book covers a wide range of baked goods ranging from the sweet to the savoury and it means you could probably find something to bake from here in all circumstances.
However the real standout about this book is the fact that the recipes in this book are absolutely amazing! There are beautiful pictures for most recipes and many of them are not just repetitions of the same old recipes you find in every other book. So many of the recipes in here are a little “off the beaten path”, entirely unique, or just new variations on familiar classics. Like honestly, even just trying to list some of the unique standout recipes in this book would not only take too long, but would be a great injustice to this book which is genuinely packed with originality.
I am absolutely wowed at this book that I could see myself making just about every recipe! It is DEFINITELY worth buying.
Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dorie Greenspan has created a cookbook for baking that I positively love!
There are recipes for the basics - cakes, cookies, pies. But, it's the subtle tips that make the difference. The author includes not just the simple recipe, but also ideas for changing it up. I will certainly use her tip and make my cookies in a muffin tin, to ensure that I have crunchy edges and chewy centers with no spreading!
The writing is clear and concise. The photos are pretty.
I bought the hardcover to add to my bookshelf.
I really recommend this book.

The Clam Chowder Pie is amazing!!! Muffins were great too. The instructions were clear and the photographs gorgeous. So many delicious recipes!!!! Love, love!

There are some recipes in this cookbook that are easier than others, which really makes it a great starting point for beginners. Also, there are lots of detailed instructions on baking and measuring basics, so there is so much that can be learned from Dorie. The instructions are clearly written and the book has such a down-to-earth approach that gives confidence to the reader.
