Gia Morelli, owner of the All Day Breakfast Café, is supposed to go wedding dress shopping with her friend Savannah. However, Savannah, a realtor, has gone off to show an estate to Buster Clarke, an mob family member. When Savannah doesn't return for the shopping trip, Gia and her friend, Trevor go looking for her. Savannah has vanished but Buster is dead.
The entire town gathers at the café in preparations for an all-out search to find Savannah while Savannah's fiancé and Gia's boyfriend, police officers work at the crime scene. Gia has waited for news but it's time for her to join search but she finds Savannah drugged at her back door.
The feuding crime families are at Gia's door to gather whatever information they can about Bester's murder and Savannah's kidnapping but all Gia wants is to keep her friend safe. That's going to be tough when Savannah decides that she's going to find who did this to her.
The characters are fun, the writing superb! Looking for more!
This is a new author for me but one I'll continue to watch/read her books.. I enjoyed this book and even went back and read all her book up to this one. Great cozy mystery with likable characters. I would like to thank Kensington Books for the advance copy of this book.
Another successful entry in this series. I love the friendship between the two women. The other main characters also make the book enjoyable. I guessed the murderer early on, but I was still invested in the story. I will continue to read this series as it continues.
Gia and her new friends have formed a family of sorts. The Breakfast Cafe is thriving and has become a hub for gathering and gossip. So when trauma strikes not only the community but a member of Gia's new family, she learns how strongly this family will pull together.
There are moments in this book where we must fear for Savannah, as she is a victim of a violent crime. And then there are the times when we must worry about BOTH Gia and Savannah, because when one puts herself in danger, the other will be right by her side.
Family is a major theme of this novel, as well as friendship.
When a feud between two families turns deadly, what is the cost to others?
Bad choices are made by many. Can it possibly have a happy ending? And will Savannah live to see her wedding day?
Another pulse pounding plot with wonderful characters and adorable animals.
Loved reading this book and series. If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend it. I suggest reading them in order
Whole Latte Murder is book 5 in the All-Day Breakfast Cafe Mysteries. Lena Gregory has done it again.
In this instalment, Gia ex-new yorker and local diner owner gets involved with disappearance and murder.
When Gia's best friend and real estate agent Savannah goes missing and the body of the client she was showing a house ends up dead she has no choice but to get involved and solved the mystery.
Quite an enjoyable read! Highly recommend Whole Latte Murder.
Includes recipes.
This novel doesn’t resonate with me as the others in the series did. If you don’t remember things from previous books it’s hard to discern who is with who and how. Took awhile to realize Hunter was with Gia , Savanah’s fiancé doesn’t appear really. And what is the relationship between the rich, nice guy whose name escapes me at the moment. The story seems to go all over the place but at least comes to a fairly logical end
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
Whole Latte Murder by Lena Gregory is the 5th book in the All-Day Breakfast Cafe Mystery series, and a great addition. Gia Morelli moves from New York to a small town in Florida and is now the owner of the All-Day Breakfast Cafe. I love how Gia is frightened by the crawly creatures unique to Florida. I love this series, but this book might be the best one yet. Gia's best friend goes missing after showing a mansion, when Gia goes to the mansion, she finds a dead body, but her friend is gone. I found this book to be a quick read, with well developed plot and characters. There are a lot of twists and turns that kept me reading. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love cozy mysteries, I highly recommend this book/series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
It's challenging to review a book that is intriguing and enjoyable right up to the last 15%, where choices are made that are questionable for the characters, the book, and the series. Whole Latte Murder kicks off with a shock as Savannah goes missing while showing a house, and the body of the client she was showing the house to is found in the bathtub. It goes from there with loan sharks, crime families, and more danger for Gia along the investigation. It's hard to reconcile that some of the decisions made were made by adults, and feels like a way to add action instead of the story or character development.
4.5 stars
This is the fifth book in the All-Day Breakfast Cafe mystery series by Lena Gregory. She also has a very popular Bay Island Psychic mystery series that is awesome too.
This book starts off with a bang as Gia is frantically searching for her missing friend, Savannah who is a successful real estate agent in town. Come to find out the person she was showing a house to ends up dead, then she is found alive behind Gia’s cafe but had given a sleeping agent.
The family and friend aspect of this book is what makes it amazing, They are all looking out for each other and there is quite a big group of them. Cole and Willow work with Gia and are quite eager to help her out when the detective aspect of her mind needs to go out and search for clues. Hunt and Leo work for the police department and seem okay with her sleuthing too which is unusual for a cozy mystery. The secondary storyline revolves around Savannah/Leo and their upcoming nuptials.
The entire book is just good. You get sucked in immediately as Gia freaks out about her missing friend. And the craziness never stops. It is quite a page turner. The mystery is compelling and the whodunit is hard to figure out. I think the best part is the community and friendships in here. It gives you all the feels.
Loved so much about it. If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title. Opinions are completely my own.
No one- not Gia nor police officers Leo and Hunt- think that Savannah murdered Buster Quinn, the loathsome man who was her real estate client. He might have been killed in the house she was showing him and she might be missing but they know she didn't do it. When Gia finds her, she discovers someone drugged Savannah AND to add insult to injury, drugged her dog Thor and broke into her place. Yikes. This is fairly standard cozy fare but the Florida atmospherics (Gia, a New Yorker, isn't a fan fo the weather) are fun. It's also unusual to have both BFFs involved with law enforcement. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Fine as a standalone.
Gia's best friend Savannah vanishes and throws Gia's world in a tailspin. Finding the client Savannah was showing a house to dead really gets Gia scared. A fast paced action packed read! I always enjoy this series! Thanks #netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Whole Latte Murder is the 5th instalment in the "All Day Breakfast Cafe" Mystery series by Lena Gregory. Ms. Gregory takes us on a ride with many twists. I liked how the family pulls together to support Savannah and Gia.
Touching scene with Pa and Gia and Michael and his family. You can tell they are in it together when it comes to supporting each other. Trevor is a good friend to this group. Loved his mansion and generosity.
There are plenty of suspects and plenty of crimes. I enjoyed the trip to Boggy Creek, Florida and look forward to the next one.
I was given an ARC e-book copy from Netgalley. I am not required to leave a positive review.
1 stars
I will preface this to say two things, I was really enjoying this book and was immediately drawn in to the characters. But, as soon as the victim's sister asked for details, she spilled her guys to what she found even knowing and acknowledging the police wouldn't want her too.
I am so fed up with cozy mysteries that feel the main character is smarter, and better than the cops! It's not good and in real life all if this interference could cause issues in court.
I did not finish.
Whole Latte Murder is the fifth installment in the All-Day Breakfast Cafe Mystery series set in Boggy Creek, FL and featuring Gia Morelli, owner of the cafe. Gia is looking forward to helping plan her best friend, Savannah Mills wedding to policeman Leo Dumont. Savannah is upset because she can't find an affordable wedding venue but Gia has an idea - unfortunately, before she can follow up with her surprise Savannah goes missing.
Savannah had left earlier in the day to show the Oakley Manor House to reputed loan shark Buster Clarke against the advice of Cafe cook, Cole Barrister. It seems that the house is owned by the Esposito family, rumored to have mob connections and sworn enemies of the Clarkes. When Savannah fails to return from her showing, Gia sets out in search of her friend and stumbles upon the body of Buster in the bathtub, another woman dead in the pond behind the house and Savannah nowhere to be found.
Anxious to find her friend, Gia sets out with the help of Leo's partner, Hunt Quinn and quickly finds herself in the midst of a real estate rivalry and a mob war. With her house being broken into, her trusty canine Thor drugged and someone stealing money from the Cafe, Gia realizes that this time she just might be in over her head.
A twisting plot filled with the return of series regulars makes for a quick and easy afternoon read.
I received an advanced copy of Whole Latte Murder from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
WHOLE LATTE MURDER, the fifth book in the All-Day Breakfast Café Mystery series by Lena Gregory, is another terrific addition to a great series! Protagonist, Gia Morelli, and her best friend, Savannah, are busy making plans for Savannah’s wedding. I love how the two interact with each other and their repartee adds plenty of humor… along with ex-New York city girl Gia’s heebie-jeebies about Florida’s abundant insects, Arachnids, snakes, and alligators (which I can relate to). The author vividly paints the setting so readers feel like they’re there experiencing everything that happens on page. It doesn’t take long before the action starts with the disappearance of Savannah after showing a house to a potential client, who’s found murdered. Ms. Gregory writes an edge-of-your-seat story, filled with emotional upheaval by the characters. It had me turning pages faster and faster and I was glued to the book as the story progressed until the final heart-stopping conclusion.
I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Two ditzy women with police detectives as boyfriends interfere in a case and nearly get themselves killed. I have read other books in this series, but this one turned me off from the series. Barely able to give it a two star rating.
This is the fifth book in the all day breakfast cafe mystery series. I highly recommend reading them in order.
Gia and her best friend, Savannah, keep managing to find themselves in trouble. Savannah mysteriously vanishes after showing a mansion to a bigwig client, Gia investigates the house Savannah was trying to sell. The first clue she finds is Savannah's car in the driveway. Inside the house, they stumble on Savannah's potential buyer who is dead.
Gia later finds Savannah lying unconscious at the back of the cafe building. How did she wind up there? And who killed Buster ? Savannah and Gia decide to get to the bottom of things (even while being warned to stay out of it.).
I enjoyed the characters as usual and I liked the storyline. I recommend this series for any cozy mystery lover.
Ex new yorker now living in Florida.
She runs a diner and unwittingly ends involved in helping police when a murder happens close to home.
Likeable characters. Fun setting.
I don't remember reading this author before, but look into her other books
Gia Morelli owns the All Day Breakfast Café in Boggy Creek, Florida. Her best friend Savannah is a real estate agent, and has been given the opportunity to show a mansion to Buster Clarke. When Earl, the cafe's first (and regular) customer hears about it, he asks Savannah not to go. When she won't budge, he asks her to bring someone with her. But Savannah, insistent she knows what she's doing, doesn't take his advice. When Savannah doesn't return at an allotted time when she was supposed to pick out her wedding dress with Gia, Gia gets worried enough that she enlists the help of her friend Trevor to go find her.
When they arrive at the mansion, they don't find Savannah, but they do find a very dead Buster. They call the police, and Savannah's police officer boyfriend Leo, and cousin Hunt, chief detective, show up and are worried sick for her. But Gia feels guilty and isn't about to let Hunt look for Savannah without her. Now Gia needs to figure out who took her friend -- but when rival business people (and possibly underworld figures) the Clarkes and Espositios get involved, it soon becomes clear that something much larger is occurring -- and Gia might be right in the middle of it...
This is the fifth book in the series, and I must say that I enjoyed it so thoroughly that I read it in one sitting. The action starts right at the beginning, and then twists all its threads to go in different directions that keep you wondering where they're going to lead. Once you decide that you know where everything is heading, it changes, and there's secrets and surprises galore.
One big surprise shows up later in the book, and it could change everything that's been going on, and the person to figure it out isn't Gia, which is another surprise. But the threads finally come together, and you get to see the picture that is being woven. When it all comes together in the end, it does so not without losses, but gives us something to look forward to in the next book. Oh, and did I say that I love Alfie? Highly recommended.
