Here's a story that has Jess who left to join the Air Force twenty years ago and when he retires and comes back to the ranch he finds Abby the girl, now a woman he left behind twenty years ago. He also wonders why she has a nineteen-year-old daughter and then begins to realize she is from their night together before he left. Now here is when their story picks up. Not a happy-go-lucky story one that needs work, especially by him. Good book with good characters.

This is a sweet, uplifting romance about two friends who reunite after 20 years apart. Jesse and Addie have not seen one another since Jesse left for the Air Force after one steamy night together. They had been best friends who crossed that line into lovers just the once and haven't spoken much since. When Jesse does move back home, he finds that Addie is living on his family's ranch as a live in nurse along with her young-adult daughter.

I really enjoyed the easy friendship between these two. There was comfort, trust and good conversation that made you really feel how close they were before Jesse had left. This book has aspects of family and how they support one another. I'm not really sure how easy I feel with Jesse so easily forgiving Addie for never telling him he had a daughter but it was also nice in some ways to have a book with two good communicators who could get past all the drama in order to focus on the big picture of just being there for one another. Addie's daughter was difficult to take at times and felt younger than she was but it wasn't so much of the book that it became overwhelming. If you are looking for a sweet, closed door romance, I really think you would enjoy this one.

This book took me so long to finish. Not because I didn’t love the characters. It just took forever to get into and then some parts were repetitive. The song part was cute at the beginning by the end the way it was said made it grating (to me.)

Another winner from Carolyn Brown. The cover gives a great description of the book so no reporting here. It is a family oriented- timing is everything book. Not a tear jerker but just a good steady predictable 'read for anytime you want to escape reality' kind of book. Interesting that one of the characters' is newly diagnosed with MS and receiving experimental treatment, but this is not a major problem for the character or his family.
I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book and was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read this book.

SECOND CHANCE AT SUNFLOWER RANCH is a slow burn contemporary story that I was pulled in to from the very first page. To be honest, I fell in love with the cover the minute I saw it. I knew I would read it anyway, because I love Carolyn Brown, but the cover really pulled me in. I mean, hello, sunflowers and a red barn!💜 I loved everything about this beautiful story and I’m excited to recommend it to my reading friends. Jesse is returning home after being in the Air Force for twenty years. He left his best friend, Addy behind and lost track of her. Addy wrote to him for six weeks and then all communication stopped. Jesse never even bothered to find out why she stopped communicating with him – instead, he just went about his life. Carolyn Brown always has a way of grabbing her readers and she never lets us go.

SECOND CHANCE AT SUNFLOWER RANCH really takes a turn that will have you unable to put this beautiful story down. Neither Addy or Jesse are looking for a relationship, but they can’t seem to ignore their growing feelings. They loved each other twenty years ago and it seems like those feelings never went away. If only they would admit it! SECOND CHANCE AT SUNFLOWER RANCH begins the Ryan Family series. This is a wonderful second chance romance story. I was emotionally invested in this story from the very beginning. I felt the family’s pain when Mia leaves. Anyway, we have Addy and Jesse crossing paths and each time, there is a pull to see more of each other. This causes all sorts of rumors and gossip. It was cute watching these two dance around their feelings for each other.

SECOND CHANCE AT SUNFLOWER RANCH is filled with twists and turns and had me staying up way too late one night to finish! I had to know where Carolyn Brown was taking us and what would happen to Jesse and Addy. I really loved how the whole community came to Jesse and Addy’s aid and only wanted them to feel loved and realize that they were home. There is so much heart in Carolyn’s writing that I’m always left with a huge smile on my face and my heart very happy. I could totally see SECONDCHANCE AT SUNFLOWER RANCH becoming a Hallmark movie and I would love to see it. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time. I would love to hang out with Addy and Mia. I’m sure they could teach me a thing or two and I know they would keep my laughing all day long! I love how Carolyn Brown does that to me each and every time.

In Carolyn Brown’s Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch, the first installment in the Ryan family contemporary romance series, this sweet second chance friends-to-lovers love story about Addy and Jesse warms your heart. After twenty years with the Air Force as a medic, Jesse Ryan returns home to Honey Grove, Texas, to return to his family’s ranch. But he runs into Addison Hall, his childhood best friend Addison Hall, and his daughter Mia, he didn’t know he had with her in an on-night stand. While he returns to ranching, he gets to know Mia, who’s a bit rebellious in nature, and sparks ignite and fly between him and Addy. As his father’s live-in nurse, Addison kept Mia a secret for him and didn’t want it to ruin his dreams. While she managed to be a single mother for so long, she kept her friends for him a secret, though it did run rampant every time he kissed her or touched her. While they did with family business in the small town, they’ve gotten to get past Mia’s wild side and the town gossip, they’ve had to follow their hearts to get the happiness they truly deserved and wanted for so long.

This was a beautiful love story that pulled at my heart strings and feel deep emotions about this second chance romance. I adored Jesse on how he dealt with the situation about learning about Mia and taken hold of the situation at his home ranch. I loved how he wanted to stay close at home and be where he belonged with Addy. He never left anybody ruffle his feathers. And I loved how Addy remained devoted to the Ryan family and took care of Sonny and how she wanted Mia to care for Jesse like she did. They do work well together and made a great team. I really liked the small town of Honey Grove, Texas, and the ranch settings of working with alpacas, sheep, and other livestock. It made me want to visit the place by picturing myself there. The theme of the story is everyone deserves a second chance to find their true love, even as friends.

I couldn’t find anything negative to say about it since this was a beautiful heartfelt contemporary romance.. I rate this book, four out of five stars, because of a couple of minor glaring errors on misused dialogue tags and internal thoughts on my e-arc from last summer. This is recommended to everyone who loves to read second chance contemporary romance novels or Hallmark movies.

Aww this was a pretty cute one! Loved the small Texas town, the hot cowboys and the mostly uncomplicated plot. Recommended for a lighthearted and breezy read.

Excellent book. 18 years after their one night together, they meet again. He finds out he has a daughter he never knew. The love is still there. Some people get their happy ever after, after all.

This clean, second chance romance is the beginning of a new series by author Carolyn Brown. Retired Air Force medic, Jesse Ryan, comes back to the ranch he was raised on, Sunflower Ranch, to take over the reigns after his adopted father's health has declined. To his surprise he finds that his high school BFF, Addy Hall is living there with her 19 year old daughter. Twenty years ago, the night before he left for the Air Force, they crossed the line from friends to lovers, but then a few months later she sent him a Dear John letter. He had heard that she had moved on and had a child. He never found another woman that meant anything to him like Addy had, but she had always avoided him when he came home on leave. Soon he realizes that Addy's daughter, Mia, is his daughter, ( his parents had already figured that out), but before Addy will tell her, Mia starts acting like a a rebellious teenager. Will Addy and Jesse get their second chance at a family? Nice story, well developed characters.

There is also a bonus story, Small Town Charm, which was ok, but didn't have much depth to it.

Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch
By Carolyn Brown

This was a sweeping love story as hometown sweethearts get a second chance at love and having a family.

This was a great novel on ranching, family, and second chances. I had a good, warm feeling when I finished this book. A great cast of characters. I recommend this book.

Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch is a super sweet story of Addy and Jesse, two best friends separated by life and reunited 20 years later. The story really was nice and sweet and happy, with complications that were a little predictable but ended up happily, and a wonderful epilogue. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Carolyn Brown has once again written a fun, heartfelt novel. Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch is the story of Jesse and Addy and how they find their way back to each other after being separated for almost 20 years when Jesse left for the Air Force. It is the story of family, secrets, friendship, and love. Carolyn Brown's writing is on point and her descriptions of the Texas setting made me feel like I was there. My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed and everything just wrapped up too quickly. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It's lightness and romance make it a wonderful vacation read.

This is just the book I needed! I found this read to be charming and uplifting. It appears to be the start of a series and I can't wait to read more. Very good!

I won’t summarize the plot; the book description below does a better job than I will. I adore Carolyn Brown’s down-to-earth cowboy romances; I’m usually laughing at the antics and enjoying a sweet and sexy romance, but Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch wasn’t my favorite from her. It was entertaining, but didn’t have her usual charm, IMO.

There wasn’t a lot of drama or angst and I appreciate that most of the time with my romances, but finding out you have a nineteen-year-old daughter you didn’t know about would have to be a shock, right? Jesse was understanding and forgiving, but I think in real life it’d be hard to not be angered you didn’t get to share in all the milestones of your child growing up. I did know this information going into the story, and I do think Addie, in her own mind, had a decent reason for withholding the information initially, still I was hoping for more.

The romance was easy going, a little too easy being this was a second chance romance. I was happy with how it all turned out, but I felt it was lacking in passion. The whole story felt a bit superficial, but would be good if you’d like a light read to breeze through. With that said, I am looking forward to Cody and Stevie's romance next. From their interactions it feels like it'll be a good one!

Jesse Ryan returns to the ‘roots of his raising’ after retiring from the Army. He has led an adventurous life as an Army combat medic. He is ready to settle down and run the Sunflower Ranch for his adoptive parents. Little does he know that his childhood best friend, Addison Hall is his father’s nurse. She and her 19 year old daughter live on the ranch and have been helping with the running of the ranch.

Addy has always had strong feelings for Jesse. They were best friends growing up, but she had always hoped for much more. The last night before Jesse left for the service they became much more than friends, but they had not been in contact for almost 20 years. Addy felt that her secret would be safer if she kept her distance from Jesse.

Carolyn Brown has a talent for creating characters and stories that find their way into the reader’s heart. Second Chance at Sunflower Ranch is Book 1 in her new Ryan Family series. I fell in love with the Ryan family and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

If you love well-written stories with characters that you would love to have as friends, you will love this book

2.5 stars rounded down because Mia annoyed me to no end.

I've enjoyed books by this author in the past, but this one fell flat for me. IDK, I liked Addy well enough and Jesse's story was interesting, but I didn't really get a feel for them TOGETHER. I think Jesse accepted too easily the fact that Addy kept him away from his daughter for 20 years without a good enough reason besides not wanting to spoil his dream. Really? No, I didn't care for it. Then there's Mia, the secret daughter. She was a horrible character who didn't make a great impression on me, I found her to be immature, rude and an overall brat. I would like to tell you that she redeemed herself in the end, but it didn't happen. At least not for me.

My main problem with this romance was that it didn't seem viable. I usually enjoy the friends to lovers/second chance romance trope but IMHO the romance element wasn't fully developed. Yes, Jesse and Addy had a shared history and a previous connection but I think the romance would have benefited if their connection ran deeper than that of childhood best friends who shared one night of passion and conceived a child. IDK, I think I would have preferred to have the romance fully fleshed out on the page instead of all the other nonsense, which only served to drag the story down as it progressed.

All in all, a good first book in The Ryan Family series. I still think this was a sweet story, I just wished I could have become more invested in it.

Carolyn Brown is an amazing storyteller and this book just proved it. She had me entranced in her world at Sunflower Ranch!

Absolutely adore this author! She is the queen of cowboys, family, & love! I always enjoy going to these sweet small towns & ranches! This book was so wonderful and heartwarming! Abby is our single mom, home health care working heroine who also helps on Sunflower Ranch. She’s kept a secret for 19 year but that’s all fixing to change. Jesse left to join the Air Force as a medic. He’s been gone for 20 years but had returned to the family ranch….learning about the aftermath of the one night him and Abby shared so many years ago! Mia is the daughter who’s going through a rebellion stage….Abby seeks help from the family and Jesse. I loved watching the family dynamic along the way as Jesse and Abby find love! The characters are so relatable as well! All in all a book full of heart & family. I’m looking forward to the next one!
