I'm obsessed with this series. It took all my strength not to dive right into the next book and instead take time to digest this one and then savor the next.

We join Sam as we left her - still dating Clive, the vampire leader, and still trying to figure out her witchy skills. I love her as a main character. She takes no BS from Clive and doesn't use her place as his girlfriend to do anything other than feed herself a *TON* of food. She's my type of gal and reading this book definitely made me hungry. So, this book is a little bit of a roadtrip book of sorts. It may start in Clive's lair, but after yet another attack (a remnant from the machinations from book 1) they end up going to New Orleans. Sigh - the food is so good.

Sam and Clive are determined to work together, no matter how one or the other fights it. Sure, there's some usual martyr scenes, but they resolve quickly enough that I forgave the book for them. In general, they are definitely getting better at compromise and Sam is certainly learning a lot. She's making new friends of different paranormal species, stretching her witchy muscles, and being a real hero in this book. I love her more and more as these books go along, so look forward to the next one even more, now!

Sam is a bar and bookshop owner. She is also a powerful supernatural. There were alot of crazy things happening and at times there was a little bit of a creep factor given the circumstances. The world building is amazing. I felt like I too were in the story. I found this book to be utterly addictive.

The Dead Don’t Drink at Lafitte’s by Seana Kelly
Publisher: Independent Publishers Group, NYLA
Genre: Sci Fi & Fantasy
Publication Date: April 13, 2021

The Dead Don’t Drink at Lafitte’s by Seana Kelly is the second book in the Sam Quinn series. I had not read the first book, but was easily able to read this as a standalone mystery! I will definitely be reading the first book, The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar, because I enjoyed this one so much!

Oh My Goodness! I absolutely loved this book! It is fast paced with a great story and fascinating characters! I honestly could not get enough of this book! There is so much goodness! I loved seeing the dynamics of all the supernatural characters working together.

This book is filled so much! I laughed throughout the book, especially at the sarcastic chapters titles!

I can't wait to see what happens next! I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series, The Wicche Glass Tavern, which is expected to be published in October 2021! I definitely recommend checking out this series!

I'm so grateful to Seana Kelly, NYLA, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book in the Sam Quinn series and it is another 5-star read. The universe is slowly expanding with new and exciting characters while still allowing the main characters to evolve. Sam is discovering her new abilities.

Ms Kelly does a masterful job at creating a character who has experienced torture and refuses to allow it to define her. Sam has many reasons to live in fear but she refuses to hide away, instead, she embraces her new life and the people who are there for her.

This is an amazing series with a stellar cast of characters. I can't wait to get my hands on the next in the series. received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I hadn't read the first book, but have it on my wishlist now. It sounds like it was an action packed read, but it's easy to pick up the storyline here. The thing that caught my interest and let me know this would be a winner for me are the details in the first fight. I really liked how the author gave so much detail on how Sam fought and what physical changes there were.

Another plus was the assortment of character types one doesn't enocunter much in UF, gorgons, furies, etc. Looking forward to having Sthenos and Meg developed more in future books. The characters were generally smart and didn't make an "dunderhead" moves that we read over and over.

There was a nice mix of action and interaction that gave us more background without it being an info. dump situation. The only weak spot, perhaps because I didn't read the first book, was Sam and Clive's relationship. Clive is a master, but he was more background wall paper to me.

Looking forward to reading the first book and the third to meet Sam's arch nemesis.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

In the second installment of the series, Sam Quinn finds herself embroiled in vampire politics when the Master of the City of New Orleans sends a group of vampires to kill Clive. Although they fight off the invaders, several of Clive's nocturne turn traitor and Sam and Clive are left wondering what has been plotted in secret. A trip to New Orleans will hopefully solve the mystery, so they set off to investigate.

I can't express how much I enjoy the character of Sam Quinn. She's broken and mending, snarky, strong but retains a deep sense of empathy. In this novel, we get to se Sam's evolution as a wicche and meet some memorable characters - the gorgon is hilarious and deadly - and the new pack of wolves are delightful - both to Sam's and the reader's surprise. Sam and Clive's relationship is scorching. Well done Seana Kelly! For fans of Ilona Andrews.

The Dead Don't Drink at Lafitte's is the second book in the Sam Quinn series. Sam is the werewolf girlfriend of San Francisco's Master of the City and is living in the nocturne with his vamps while her place is under construction. As I too, like to live on the edge, I did not read book one, The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar, before picking this one up.

At first, this was a frustratingly slow read for me. While the author does a good job of giving you the backstory, it was challenging to be invested in the story. Sam simply was not a character that I felt strongly about and there wasn't enough action to keep my interest. Vampire politics take up a big chunk of the novel to start. It appears that vampires are bigots and begrudge that a smelly dog is now the girlfriend of their leader. There's enough unrest that the Master of New Orleans is attempting a coup on the nocturne. It was only after they go to New Orleans to answer that insult head-on, that the story really starts rolling.

Once there was a change in scenery, the entire feeling of the book shifts. I've never been to New Orleans, so I enjoyed experiencing it through Sam's eyes. It didn't feel like the tourist's view that you get a lot when a book is set there. More back alleys than Marti Gras. There's a whole new cast that enters into play in the Big Easy; ghosts and gorgons and alpha werewolves. Sam begins exploring her own talents as a necromancer, which includes influencing the dead. Clive even disappears in New Orleans for a while and can I just say I liked it better when he was gone! I might have even found myself rooting for a certain werewolf.

There's plenty of snarky dialogue, hilarious banter with Stheno, the gorgon, and lots of "off with their heads" moments. In spite of the supernaturally enhance abilities, Sam isn't the typical urban fantasy badass. She isn't filled with confidence and using her powers has an unfortunate downside. There are also some dark moments that include torture, slavery, and sexual assault. Yes, there's romance but as it's already established, it wasn't necessarily the main focus. The Wicche Glass Tavern—book three coming in October 2021—has a lot of potential if it can continue with the world building and character growth.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC! This was a great 2nd book in this series. It is as snarky and fun as the 1st. Sam is a really fun character and I really liked the way she dealt with what life was throwing at her. It moves the story away from the bookstore and takes it to New Orleans. I liked the way Sam and Clive work together to stop the vampire plots. There are twists and turns I didn't see coming. Can't wait for the next book! October can't come fast enough.

While the Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar is being renovated after the incident with the sucky werewolves... she’s been living with Clive and his nocturne of vampires... a happy home it is not because vampires are snobs and they resent her presence. But with betrayal and deception and overly complicated vampire politics and plots going on Sam can’t quite stay out of it. And lucky for both her and Clive she’s found some new superpowers to help aid them with all the vampire shenanigans. And considering she takes a trip to New Orleans with the vampires to sort out their mess she gets to put them to good use....

Lots of action and vampire decapitations and blood and dust everywhere... a whole lot of crazy happens and Sam is somehow in the middle of it all... werewolves ancient vampires and gorgon body guard and all. It’s quite the adventure.

I love Sam and all the interesting friends she picks up along the way. It was a great addition to the series and I could barely put it down once I got around to reading it. Which I may have put off a bit because I knew I would be left wanting more once I reached the end and I was right... October is a long time away but I await the next one anxiously.

It was fun returning to this series. The plot in The Dead Don't Drink at Lafitte's was action-packed at times as well as overall engaging. It was fun watching the relationship between Sam and Clive develop, as well as Sam finding out a thing or two about herself and her background. There's also a few other characters I'd love to see more of in future books.

Overall it was a fun book to read.

A wonderful second installment in the series! I really liked the first, but the second may be even better! And I find that doesn’t often happen. I am so excited to read number three!

The Dead Don't Drink at Lafitte's by Seana Kelly is an advance reader copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was the second book in the series. Netgalley approved me for the ARC and I realized I hadn't read the first one yet. I quickly read the first and loved it and the dove into this one. This one was just as good as the first and I am so bummed I have to wait awhile for the next one. This book started in their hometown of San Francisco and then went to New Orleans. There was a lot of vampire politics and intrigue, Sam met a werewolf pack and had some interesting experiences with ghosts and Clive's exes. Seana Kelly's books are fun to read, exciting and I love all the characters.

I picked this up as description sounded promising, and though it is the second in the series there is enough context that you do not necessarily have to have read the first book. That being said I did feel I lacked some nuances for the characters but apart from that the story stood on its own.
I liked the premise of a different take on the urban fantasy genre, werewolves and vampires still hate each other so there is a star crossed lovers vibe, however witches are wicche and there are a plethora of mythical characters from demons to gorgons.
Sam and her vampire lover Clive are attached in their home nocturne in San Francisco and travel to New Orleans to exact retribution on Lafitte master of the nocturne there. Sam discovers more of her true nature (as parents were werewolf and wicche) and magical abilities plus how she fits into a werewolf pack.
Sam is a scarred survivor of trauma, abuse and rape but has overcome this to stand on her own and find someone to love. I enjoyed the story but felt the characters needed rounding out (but could be as not read first book) and though I can respect Sams journey she is a little on the needy side for me, despite being able to cut off heads!
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for access to this ARC all opinions are my own.

I was a huge fan of the first book in this series, so I was excited to read this second installment. I think it was even better than the first! Sam is waiting for her bar/bookstore to be renovated, but in the meantime, she’s embroiled in the midst of a war with the New Orleans vamps. This book was so very hard to put down, I really had to force myself. The writing was excellent, the plot exciting, and I even LOL in a couple places. Yes, there’s romance, but it isn’t the main plot. Sam is learning to be a strong person in spite of her rough past, and she’s really coming into her own. I just adore the addition of one of the characters, and I hope she sticks around. This was a great book, and I am looking forward to hopefully many more. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This one tops book one! Sam and Clive are back and it's an action packed journey. I love that part of this story takes place in New Orleans. There is also some new additions to the cast of characters that readers are going to thoroughly enjoy. There is so much happening here and I couldn't put it down. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. The ending was perfect and has me already jonesing for the next one!

Have you ever read a book, and because it was set somewhere else, it almost felt like it didn’t happen as part of the series? As much as I loved this installment, that’s how it felt for me. In the beginning, they were at the mansion, and dealing with the rebuild of her bar after the fight from the last book. But almost immediately her new power kicks in, and bad things happen.
One confrontation and fight later, and we’re in the Big Easy.

This time around, we have a lot more from the witches and wolves, as well as the Vampire Drama that brought us to the new location in the first place. Though everything comes to a head fairly quickly, you never quite know how it’s all going to end until it’s finally happening.

I love how this book gives Sam a ton of new people in her corner after the beginnings she had, giving her a sense of support system and family, and the new characters give us more to draw from in future books, so that we know it’s not going to just be vampire problems from here on out. I’m looking forward to this world exploding with new things, and seeing where the next book will bring us.

This is the sequel to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore And Bar. I had already pre-ordered this book before receiving this ARC so I was excited to pick it up early.

Sam is still recovering from multiple life attempts and is re-building her life with her new boyfriend. Her life was meant to be calmer, yet she is dragged into vampire politics and now faces new threats. With her vampire boyfriend and his posse they travel to New Orleans to deal with this new threat but nothing is as clear as it seems. Sam uses the expectations of those attacking her to gain the upper hand, kiss ass and prove she can hold her own against the mighty and powerful supernaturals.

This book was a fun, hilarious adventure with some twists to keep things spicy. Moving the story to New Orleans was exciting, especially as someone who has never visited the city. I was sight-seeing through Sam and experiencing her anticipation of the city with her. Coming into her latent powers makes it an interesting character development for Sam and the effect of the dynamics between her and Clive as well as Clive's people. Sam is asserting her independence within a relationship that could swallow her. I love her compassion and the kindness that she shows throughout the book. I can't wait for the next book!

There are some tough scenes about plantations and ghosts who were slaves so be warned.

TW: mentions of sexual assault, physical abuse, torture, slavery

Sam, San Francisco's resident lone wolf finds herself coming to grips with the wicche part of herself and what exactly that means. She is also learning what it's like to be in love with the master of the city Clive. She is dealing with the vampires who feel she should not be with a Clive and what dangers may lay ahead for both of them. Clive is under attack from an unknown source that will take him and Sam along with his closest two vamps to New Orleans for another battle that may or may not leave one or more of them permanently dead.

I really enjoyed this story it kept me entertained and trying to guess who truly the bad person after all of them. It was as good if not better than the first story in the Same Quinn series. I can't wait until the next one comes out.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. Sam is a werewolf with special powers who owns the aforementioned bookstore and bar. Her boyfriend, Clive, the master vampire of San Francisco, has to fight deadly prejudice since werewolves are seen as inferior by most vampires. A relationship between Sam and Clive makes him seem weak and he faces serious challenges to his authority. Sam gives as good as she gets which makes the story even better. I love paranormal urban fantasy and this series has it all - humor, romance, bloody battles, and great characters. Highly recommended.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of THE DEAD DON’T DRINK AT LAFITTE’S (Book 2 of the Sam Quinn series) by Seana Kelly in exchange for an honest review. Sam Quinn, werewolf and newbie necromancer, has been staying with her boyfriend, Clive, while her business is being renovated. There’s a bit of a problem because Clive is the master vampire of San Francisco and because, as a general rule, vampires look down on werewolves. This has caused tension within the vampire coven and made them vulnerable to outside attack. After one such attack, Sam accompanies Clive and his most trusted lieutenants to New Orleans to investigate the source of the attack. However, vampires are twisty-minded, so it’s difficult to understand their motives or even to keep track of the plan. The events in New Orleans have Sam doubting herself, Clive, the others in her party, as well as their new acquaintances. It’s time to get dusty.

I like this book as well as the first one in the series, THE SLAUGHTERED LAMB BOOKSTORE AND BAR. I recommend this book to fans of urban fantasy mysteries.
