this was a great mystery and supernatural book, the characters were great and I enjoyed the world that was built. this worked perfectly as a young adult novel.

The Electric Girl was an interesting book that had me questioning so many things throughout it. Or maybe it's just me and I was missing things while reading it? Not sure but it's possible because it's me.
Now the characters themselves were okay but, again, they confused me so much. I think it's because I didn't quite no when this was actually set time-wise. For some reason, I kept thinking one thine but then certain things weren't lining up with that year and then I would be confused all over again. Again, it really could just be me.
Other than that, the friendships throughout this book also sort of threw me off my groove at times. Especially when it came to potential romance and stuff. I think I just kept frustrating myself more than anything because I kept expecting things to go one way and the book just was doing it's own thing.
In the end, I don't really think this is YA which I originally thought it was going to go down that route. Definitely more MA than anything - which for MA, it was pretty good. For YA, ehhh it was okay. I am glad that I got the chance to dive into this book because it definitely has potential.

This was an interested story. Polly is losing her mother to cancer and has already lost her father. She does have a group of friends to rely on. One day they go an investigate strange "things" that are happening by Polly's house...
I wanted to DNF the book but glad I didn't because it is a new plot I haven't encountered before. The relationships is well rounded and pleasant.

This was a fun read, but I think there are definitely a few areas that could do with some improvement. While I loved how quickly the book establishes a really strong relationship between Polly and her mum and I think Polly's friend group was also decently developed, a character who's relationship with Polly becomes really important later in the story is barely featured until he's needed in the plot and I wish it was a bit better integrated.
This book is also definitely more middle grade than YA (it does have 1 swear word in it as of me reading this review copy which I know blacklists it from MG sections for some librarians so I hope it gets removed before official publication because I think it could thrive there) if that at all influences your decision to give it a go.
