What an amazing road trip! The book is filled with snippets about his travels to different arenas/cities and the people he meets. I loved the stories of the different fans and how they ended up where they did and yet kept their love for hockey and the Leafs. I listened to this and enjoyed it but I think I would have enjoyed it much more being able to see the pictures he added to his book.

i received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Mike Wilson certainly has a strong claim to the title of "Ultimate Leafs Fan", especially after the epic road trip described in this book. As a sports fan (but not necessarily a hockey fan), this book was still interesting and entertaining. However, there were a few things that kind of annoyed.

The author doesn't sugar-coat anything, which is good in a way, but also reveals personal character flaws sometimes. Some of the accounts of his own unpleasantness to others kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.

Also, the author remains very one-track-minded throughout this epic journey. What I mean by this is that instead of collecting and relating a lot of varied accounts of whatever people wanted to relate during his encounters with them, he sticks to a very limited script and only asks them all the same question over and over again. I have to think that a trained journalist undertaking an adventure of this magnitude (Bill Bryson, AJ Jacobs, and Mary Roach come to mind) would have come away with a much more varied, and therefore much more interesting, compilation of experiences, interviews, and anecdotes.

That being said, if you're a sports fan, you'll enjoy this book. If you're a fan of epic challenges, you'll enjoy this book. If you're a hockey fan, you'll enjoy this book. If you're a Maple Leafs fan, you have to read this book.
