I liked this book, but I didn't absolutely love it. I found myself putting it down a lot in favor of other books. It was cute, if not a little predictable. Just an OK read for me.

"The Second Chance Inn" by Susan Hatler is a heartwarming story about a woman named Kayla who is struggling to find her way in life after losing her job and breaking up with her boyfriend. The book is set in the small town of Elk Creek, California, and centers around the Second Chance Inn, a bed and breakfast that Kayla inherits from her grandmother.
As Kayla begins to renovate the inn, she meets the charming and handsome local carpenter, Nate. Despite her reservations about getting involved with anyone so soon after her breakup, Kayla finds herself drawn to Nate and begins to develop feelings for him.
However, things become complicated when Kayla's ex-boyfriend, Jack, shows up in Elk Creek, wanting to get back together with her. Kayla must decide whether to give Jack another chance or take a risk with Nate, who she is beginning to realize may be the man of her dreams.
"The Second Chance Inn" is a delightful read that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Susan Hatler has a knack for creating relatable characters that you can't help but root for. Kayla is a strong, independent woman who is determined to make a new life for herself, and Nate is the perfect gentleman who is there for her every step of the way.
The setting of Elk Creek is also beautifully portrayed, with its picturesque countryside and friendly locals. You can almost smell the fresh pine trees and feel the cool breeze on your face as you read.
Overall, "The Second Chance Inn" is a charming and uplifting story that will leave you feeling inspired and hopeful. If you're looking for a feel-good book that will put a smile on your face, then this is the perfect read for you.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A cute women's fiction novel. The cover is really cute. Highly recommend
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
A cheating boyfriend makes Wendy leave her childhood home. She vows to never go back to her home town., But, with the death of her grandmother, Wendy has to return to take care of selling the family inn. There is a clause to being able to sell…..she must stay 30 days in order to get her inheritance.
The Second Chance Inn is a nice, clean romance with strong characters.
Cute and light storyline. Blue Moon Bay is an eclectic town and the Inn at Blue Moon Bay has been in the family for generations. So much has changed through the years, yet nothing changed.
Wendy left her childhood town because of personal hurts she tried to escape. But when her grandmother dies, she’s forced to return to Blue Moon Bay. It doesn’t take long for her to remember all that she loved and left behind. Her brother has been living at the Inn all these years while Wendy left for Sacramento to become a top realtor.
Her high school besties are still in town! They’re still hurt that Wendy left without liking back eight years ago. But they reconnect and let bygones be bygones. It’s amazing how old habits with friends return so quickly!
Then there’s the hottie Wendy met her first night back. It was a blue moon, literally. Max was only supposed to be there one night. She didn’t think a one night of kisses under the blue moon would be a big deal even knowing the legend passed down through the years about a lovers kiss under the blue moon being a love that lasts forever. It was just one night!
And then it turned into a month. Max being there all the time forced her to keep busy with renovating the Inn to prepare it for sale, as required by her grandmother’s will. Brian doesn’t want to sell. Wendy thought it would be easy to let it go. The longer she stayed, the more she wants to stay.
Gah! Grandma’s will said Wendy must stay for 30-days and then sell the property! Her realty office keeps calling with issues happening and eager for her return. There’s just so much to do with fixing up the Inn and helping her friends with the local Pumpkin Festival. How will Wendy get through all this?
A beautifully written first book of the Blue Moon Bay Series, I give The Second Chance Inn by Susan Hatler 4 out of 5 tiaras. It’s a simple book with just enough excitement. But I’m not quite sure how having her parents back in town for a few days was necessary. Also, the title could use some work, it’s not necessarily about second chances. I feel it’s more about healing from the past, past hurts, past relationships, past friends, past life, Wendy is finding herself during her brief trip back home.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Hatco Publishing for access to this book!
Thank you author Susan Hatler, NetGalley, and Hatco publishing for giving me a free e-arc of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
3.5 stars
I enjoyed the premise of this book, but felt the main character seemed to need too much external validation about her feelings as well as her actions towards running the inn with her brother. I loved the sweet romance that developed between Max and Wendy! The story had a great pace and held my interest up until the very last page! Overall, this was a great first book in what I know will be an amazing series! I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series! If you are looking for a book to take with you to the beach, look at taking this book with you on those sunny days!
I have read the series. Some might think a bit kind of corny but I thought the idea of the Blue Moon legend charming. If you love reading Susan Hatler you will follow continue your enjoyment.
The Second Chance Inn is the second book in the Blue Moon Bay. This is was a new author for me and I have to say I enjoyed the book. I will be adding this author to my list to follow and will be reading more from her. It was well written, the scenes flowed smoothly, and it was a very entertaining book. I loved all the characters and with the author’s style of writing you could feel their emotions and it was so easy to connect with them.

The Second Chance Inn follows the story of a couple who met as kids and meet up again as adults. The relationship of Wendy and Max develops into a sweet second-chance romance. There is a magical element of the plot as well surrounding the legend of the blue moon, that adds a unique element to the book. This is a lovely, HEA, clean romance that would be a great vacation or beach read. I look forward to reading more in the Blue Moon Bay series.
Heartwarming story. Very typical, family members inherit home from deceased relative with strings attached. Wendy and her brother, Brian are left an inn and must run the inn together in order to actually inherit. Liked the characters and the story was a nice heartwarming story for a quick read.
Wendy must live with her brother for 30 days in the Inn they are left by their grandmother. or they will lose it. They must come together as a family and get the inn back in shape. Good story!
A lot of mixed emotions in this romance. Well written but could have been a longer read so that some things didn't get glossed over. Easy read and enjoyable. 4 stars
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
Wendy Watts hasn't been back to the small town of Blue Moon Bay since high school graduation. When she was 8 years old, she and her brother were brought to live with their paternal grandma so they could have a stable home life while their parents traveled the world. She always hoped they'd come back so they could be a family again, but it never happened. It was then she took her brother's words to heart, "People can't count on anyone but themselves. You should learn that now." And Wendy did. She let her high school boyfriend get close and he dumped her for another girl after he went off to college. That was when Wendy built up barriers so that no one could get close enough to hurt her again, left town after graduation and never returned. . .until now. Now she's back because their grandma died and the will says Wendy has to sell the inn "in person" after running it with her brother Brian for one last month. If she doesn't comply the inn will be donated to charity and she and her brother will receive nothing.
Being at the inn is hard for Wendy--it dredges up bad memories of when her family came to Blue Moon Bay and she thought they would grow up there as a family, but then her parents left them. there. Plus the inn needs a lot of work if they're going to get it sold and her brother keeps telling her he doesn't want to sell it, although he knows it's in grandma's will and Wendy has no choice. Then Max enters the picture and things . . .
I felt so much for Wendy, and her issues from being "abandoned" by her parents and high school boyfriend run deep. I feel she would've greatly benefitted from some counseling to help her come to terms with this deep seated issue. I liked that as she helped planned the repairs to the inn she started remembering wonderful times with her grandmother and her mood lightened.
I really liked Max--he was so supportive and helped so much with updating the inn so it could be sold. He knew what he wanted, and what he didn't want. What he wanted was Wendy. He had seen her at her worst and was still there. I had a feeling I knew who was really buying the inn and once it came out the stuff would hit the fan, so to speak, especially with Wendy letting down her barrier and letting Max in.
I liked how everything was resolved and everyone got their happy ending. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher Hatco via NetGalley. I also have a ebook for my own personal library. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I have read loads of Susan Hatlers books now and they do not disappoint. This was another lovely read, I like all the characters in Blue Moon Bay and love them all – can’t recommend these books more for a light, easy romantic read.
The Second Chance Inn is a fast read. I thought it a new book, but it was published in 2015. I loved the setting, the beach, the waves, and the small community. I liked Max at first read and was all in with him. Ima,so liked Brian. I struggled with my feelings toward Wendy. For a grown woman I found her to be immature and childish for most of the book. I wanted to toss her in the ocean for parts of it. It did put a damper on the book, but then I’d read about Max and sigh.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Romance: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This story was a lot of fun to read. There was so much emotion, pain and love. The story was intriguing and kept my attention throughout. I’m sure in the future, I will reread this story. The characters were easy to imagine. Wendy grew throughout the story and learned to let go and forgive. Even though we didn’t have Max’s perspective, we can infer that Max learned where his home was. It was an instalove kind of thing with just a little sprinkle of a magical, romantic legend.
The story follows Wendy. Her grandma just passed away and she’s left her inn to Wendy. Wendy hasn’t been near her hometown since graduation. She believes the town holds too many bad memories for her. Her parents left her and her brother, Brian, with her grandma because they were addicted to travel. Brian and Wendy just wanted to settle down. Their grandma raised them. Brian stayed with the grandma to help with the inn and Wendy flipped towns as quickly as possible. Now she’s back in town. Her brother is upset with her for leaving in the first place and for one more big reason. Her grandma has left her in charge of the inn and has it made it so they have to sell. Even if Wendy wanted to keep it, she couldn’t. She now has a month to do a renovation and sell it. Besides this, Wendy meets Max. They kiss all night long and Wendy goes to bed contented. That is until she realizes that Max will be staying for the rest of the month.
I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.
Apparently I keep reading Susan Hatler's Blue moon series out of order. Although, in my defense, the titles seem to change over time adding to the confusion of the order. At Goodreads, I found this story under the name Every Little Kiss.
And this is the first of the Blue moon series. We meet Wendy Watts, who reluctantly is returning to Blue Moon Bay to sell her grandmother's inn.
After a lifetime of rejections, Wendy had left her childhood and memories behind at Blue Moon Bay and she became a succesfull realtor in San Francisco.
Since the will of her grandmother dictates, that she should be the one to sell the inn in person, she has no choice but to return. But while preparing the inn for sale, Wendy starts to reconnect with her older brother who doesn't want her to sell the inn-and with her high school friends. So, maybe not all of her childhood was that bad. When she also meets a handsome stranger, Max, who starts to help out with her repairs to the inn, Wendy starts to wonder if selling the inn is the best idea. But her life is no longer here, now is it? In Susan-style a cute read. A little predictable, a lot of sweet. Excellent reading for a sunny afternoon. Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Firstly I would like to thank Netgalley & Hatco Publishing for the opportunity to receive a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The truth is I was surprised that this book had been published in 2015, and I got it through Netgalley.
It doesn't mean that I didn't like the book, but I had some trouble with Wendy's attitude. I thought the heroine was a bit immature and somewhat of a drama queen. Everything was so emotional; she seemed to be "hurt" by everything that everybody did, whether intentional or not; I just got sort of tired of her dramatics.
Max, on the other hand, changed my mind. Somehow, this young, passionate hunk slowly entered my heart and stole my breath away. A lover of nature, a believer of legends, a man around town, a dog’s best friend, what more could a woman want? The guy was a saint with all he put up with.
I might continue with the series in the future; for now, I am taking a break.
The Second Chance Inn by Susan Hatler
Wendy left Blue Moon Bay after she left college to escape her past. Her Grandmother who brought her up had died suddenly and she must return home to sell her grandmothers Inn as instructed in her will. On her return she meets Max and they kiss under the blue moon at the bay which means their love will last forever if the town legend is to be believed. Although she has her own successful business Wendy must fight her own demons to find true success and happiness.
A Lovely story, beautifully set. Loved the book. It leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling when reading it.
