Cassie moved to the USA to escape from heartbreak and loss. James is a typical bachelor who isn’t looking for commitment.
They both find each other on a house swap website. James moves to Cassie’s beachside house and Cassie moves to an apartment in London. As they keep up communication with one another to sort out problems with the house swap, they forge a friendship over the phone. They make surprising discoveries about one another and confront their feelings from past trauma. A heart warming story that is a sort of enemies to lovers trope. Full story fun, laughter and sadness. A great read.

Love the concept of house swapping, but I wouldn’t wish to go through it myself! I like that the book focuses on the main characters by themselves first as they swapped houses and had long-distanced communications. It felt like their characters were able to grow, yet I find that they had rather good chemistry as well. They both end up respecting each other’s choices rather well, and I find their romance to be cute.

Definitely a pretty light romance read, but there’s a touch of sensitive topic too regarding failed pregnancies.

The House Swap by Jo Lovett is a delightful and heartwarming tale that will captivate readers who adore lighthearted, humorous, and emotional stories about love, relationships, and self-discovery, particularly those who enjoy island life, small-town charm, and the thrill of a slow-burning romance.

I was excited to read this book because I thought it was going to remind me of The Holiday -- a classic, romcom that I LOVE. Unfortunately, the MMC was terribly unlikeable, and I couldn't make myself root for them. The chemistry was lacking. I really wanted to love this more than I did!

I did not finish this book because like other reviewers have stated, there were some heavier topics that were not disclosed in the summary that made me decide not to continue reading. Thank you for the approval and the opportunity to read and review this book.

What a cute book! I would not mind a house swap myself. I really enjoyed how descriptive it was regarding each of the peoples life after the swap.
It was nice seeing the mans transformation as well

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

This title was archived before I had a chance to download it to be read so unfortunately I was not able to read it and give feedback.

I wanted to like it but by 7 % or so it just didn't grab my attention. Add to that that I looked at other people's reviews and saw that it dealt with some heavy topics (IVF treatments from the very first chapter) and I just wasn't ready for that since the blurb never mentioned any of it. It didn't feel like a light-hearted romance I was thinking of when I requested this book on NetGalley. Shame, as I was interested in this book because it reminded me of the movie The Holiday. But I'm also glad I'm DNFing it now and not after I was more invested in the book. The reviews definitely helped. Also, there's no smut in the book apparently (as the reviews said).

The House Swap synopsis instantly reminded me of the romantic favorite: The Holiday. I tried to give this book a read and cannot connect to the characters and felt their mannerisms detracted from the storyline. The story wasn't believable and only the male's reason for swapping was eye catching.

A sweet yet slow burn romance.
Fun, strong characters that are entertaining. The story tackles sensitive and serious topics, it does this well but for me I would have liked some humour to balance things.
A good story and a nice enough read.

This was a nice, light easy book to pick up. This story is about two people who live in two separate continents who swap homes after finding each other on a home swap website. James needs a change after his relationship has ended and Cassie needs to get research for her new book so needs new scenery.
This book reminded me of The Holiday a lot, one of my favourite films.
I loved both main characters by the end of the story and loved the relationship they formed through the text messages. It took James a while to grow into himself but he became a nice person by the end.
Definitely a fab story if you are looking for a light and easy read.

Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for accepting my request to read this book!

On the whole I did enjoy reading this: although perhaps at my own fault for not looking into it more beforehand I was a little shocked by very pregnancy-dominated plot.

This story had me intrigued from start to finish, I loved seeing how these characters who seemingly hated each other at the beginning were able to connect at the end. I loved seeing our protaginist get what she has been wanting for years. I loved that the drama at the end was a real situation that could happen.

What I didn't like was
1. a fade to black romance scene (so fade to black they hadn't even kissed)
2. that the love interest is literally described as being one of the worst people I've ever read about: between his job that puts people out of their jobs (he admits to not caring about the people and that they are just numbers) and not caring that an older man who has worked for the company for nearly thirty years who was fired three months before retiring will miss out on his pension because of him.
3. he lets a stranger live in his house without warning her that his ex girlfrind (who is abusive and invasive) might force herself in at any time
4. decides that he wants to make money out of tourism in the love interests home with the scheme of eco-tourism to trick rich people without care of the locals or the environemnt or wildlife (he clearly has not been educated in any form of environmentalism)
5. took out all of his belongings including BED SHEETS of his apartment so the protagnist had nothing.

Granted - we see he has a "tragic" backstory but I firmly do not believe a person that does all this is able to change to be a decent person within the months they form a relationship.

My other compaint is that we are told more than shown the relationship build over time. But I did enjoy their interactons and I would consider reading more from this author if the characters wer so much less despisable.

I am honestly shocked by the overwhelmingly four and five star reviews for this particular book, as I found it to be pretty boring and predictable throughout the entire novel. The chapters go on and on, and we really just have a bad character and even worse situations.

A very enjoyable contemporary romance set in the country. Jo Lovett has an easy to read style, and the characters were well defined and likeable. I'm a sucker for house swap type of stories ever since watching the movie, The Holiday. I'll be looking for more books by this author.

I love this premise and it was nice reading a book that managed to stay cute at the same time it was tackling big issues, however it was difficult to "get into" these characters and they weren't very memorable for me.

What a gorgeously slow burning will-they won't-they romance this is. It's funny, too.
I really felt for Cassie (not saying why - spoilers), and there is a more serious aspect to this story, but the overall tone is uplifting. I simply loved the first chapter, the drama and the cringeworthiness pulling me straight into the book, and once iI was in, I was hooked.

I also love a story where a character is out of their comfort zone and James is most definitely out of his! Snigger!!

This is a lighthearted read, with just the right amount of angst to flavour it, and plenty of romance.

If you love Hallmark movies, this book is for you. A cute read that is safe for breaks at work; it had all the cutesy themes you’d see in a family friendly romcom.
