Brent Pilkey has a punchy prose style, but the story in Secret Rage has been told before and there isn't enough originality in this version of the "serial killer preys on prostitutes" plot to commend it. Characters are your average fictionalized cops, lacking in depth but eager to cover themselves with the mantle of heroism and dedication. Secret Rage isn't an awful novel but it doesn't stand out from a large crowd of similar cop-centric novels.
