The title pretty much sums up the book. It is filled with quotes that show all the sides of tenderness. The subject is interesting because most of what we hear about is love and friendship these days. Tenderness is mostly forgotten. This book is short and sweet and perfect as a reminder that there is more to life and people than existing.
Alain Cancilleri's beautifully rendered "The Little Book of Tenderness" is the latest effort by the illustrator to create simple, meaningful books that are delightful for gifts or simply inspirational for reading.
If you know me at all, you know that I've spent a good amount of my adult life offering an event called "The Tenderness Tour." So, I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to pick up "The Little Book of Tenderness." It's a collection of tenderness-centered quotes enveloped by Cancilleri's emotionally resonant illustrations and images reflecting the wonder and whimsy and joy contained within these 100 pages.
"The Little Book of Tenderness" is a brief, breezy yet utterly enjoyable read and I easily finished it within one night. I will no doubt revisit it again.
Tenderness is, indeed, the overwhelming feeling one gets from reading this beautiful collection and I'm unashamed to admit it's a collection that made me smile, made me reflect, made me shed a tear, and simply made me happy.
I was impressed with the curation of quotes. "The Little Book of Tenderness" expands beyond the usual well-known quotes and Cancilleri's seemingly simple illustrations complement the quotes quite divinely.
A definite thumbs up!
THE LITTLE BOOK OF TENDERNESS is itself a gentle, beautiful, powerful work of tenderness -- a wonderful gift for new parents, the newly married, for anniversaries, birthdays....any occasion when life and love are celebrated. I was transported by the lovely, simple illustrations that were the perfect reflection of quotes from writers, artists, wise ones over the centuries. I received an early reader copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
"How far will you go in life depends upon your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong.
Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."
- George Washington Carver
I need this book of tenderness everyday for the rest of my life.
I never thought such a small book of meaningful lines from the learned and the wise would impact me this much.
The illustrations are beautiful and soothing.
We all need this book.
Keep this book near your pillow, on your desk and, if possible, wherever you go.
Thank you, authors and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.
This is a beautiful and joyful little book, full of thoughtful quotes from literary, political, celebrity, and artistic luminaries on the need for tenderness in our lives. Each quote is given its own space with illustrations to give the reader space to contemplate and ponder. A great gift to yourself or someone else.
What does tenderness mean? According to a dictionary it means kindness and gentleness. That is truly what all the quotes are about. It was enjoyable book to read. Sometimes I read several quotes and some days I read only one. This is a book you could give as a gift. I was amazed at the many different authors of the quotes.

From Amazon : Happiness, joy, kindness, and gratitude have all had their moments, and up next is tenderness: the beautiful combination of gentleness and affection. Explore the depth of this feeling in a gorgeously illustrated collection of inspirational quotes from luminaries such as Jane Austen, Khalil Gibran, Pope Francis, and Rupi Kaur.
I was a bit disappointed in this book; I anticipated getting more original “quotes” The artwork was lovely.
It is a very nice book for a present. Each quote has a deep meaning and for sure if you meditate on the message sent you will discover that an adult as well as a child needs tenderness no matter their age.
In some families, emotion, tenderness, even the whole body are kept at a distance. And the feelings are kept to themselves. Given the huge influence that the family has on the individual, it is not surprising that, in the end, we choose to go on already beaten paths.
The lack of tenderness, respectively of caresses, is a very heavy burden, which, many times, we carry after us all our lives. Hence the violence, anxiety, depression, sometimes even suicide seemingly without cause.
I see this small book as a first step towards gaining confidence and learning more about tenderness and what it means.
