Darling book! The author did an excellent job writing a funny story with characters that kids can relate to and rhyming words they enjoy. Of course the cherry on top is when the child becomes the hero of the story. Small children will love this book and its attractive and funny illustrations. It's a nice book to start a discussion on what to do when something frustrates you, which could even lead into practicing some simple problem solving. A winner!
I wanted to like this book. One of my pet peeves, especially in children’s books, is when the author has a note at the beginning of the book telling you what to expect. I feel let down when the book does not meet those expectations, and this one does not. Yes, there are parts where the book rhymes, but there is no cadence in the rhymes, and the rhymes seem to fall in weird parts of the sentences. Then the story is too wordy for what I was promised in the note. Half the book is taken up before the reader even gets to the tea and the bee. In all this feels like a storyteller writing a story as they would tell it, rather than an author writing a story meant to be read by a loan reader.
4.5 Stars
This fun book shows a small snippet of a boy’s life with his dear grandpa. The narration rhymes more or less throughout the book, and that makes it even more interesting to read. The illustrations are warm and appealing. It’s great to see the characters resemble the author’s heritage. The expressions of the dog and the bee are just too good.
While the story has merit on its own about the special relationship between a grandson and grandfather (and pets), the illustrations add a lot of depth to the story. This is one sweet book with tea with a drop of honey.
Thank you, NetGalley and Script Novel Publishing, for the ARC.
I loved this! It teaches kids not to be afraid of bees and how to coexist with them, which so so important since we need bees to survive. I also really loved the art. It was super colorful and sure to keep kids engaged with the story
Such a heartwarming short storybook!
The illustrations are so well done. The little glimpse of life between the grandson, his grandfather and their pet is shown in such a way that it brings joy to the reader.
The characters are playful, full of life and the moments they share: it's beautiful to see such in books meant for kids.
You will enjoy this more as a physical paper! Grab it when it comes out.
Thank you authors and the publisher for the advance reading copy.
This is a delightful rhyming book that kids will love. It stars a grandpa, a grandson, Sparks the dog, and a determined honey-loving bee. The story is told through the eyes of the grandson.
Every morning at seven o' three the day begins. Grandpa puts in his pretend teeth, kneels to pray, stretches out his back, makes a cup of tea and it's day on... out to the porch he goes. This is where the fun begins. A war ensues between Grandpa and a pesky bee who is determined to share that delicious cup of tea that Grandpa is holding.
Poor Grandpa, try as he might that warrior bee will not give up the fight. After many attempts to eradicate the intruder his wise grandson comes up with the perfect solution. I love that the boy is the problem solver and superhero of the day. The illustrations are bold and beautiful and hilarious. The story will make kids laugh and return again again to enjoy this fun story. I highly recommend this book.
This book is hilarious!! I absolutely loved the story about grandpa, his grandson, their dog and the naughty bee. It's about how the grandson notices his grandpa and solves the mystery of the bee who keeps disturbing his grandpa. The illustrations are simple yet awesome! A fun book to read again and again!
I'm not really sure what to make of this book yet. I understand the point but I found the narrative confusing.
A nice story about a boy who lived with his grandpa and watch what he does every morning. One thing that invites a new friend for grandpa is his morning tea. Why? Go find out yourself!
A simple story to read, yet the Grandpa character is a wise man who knows how to laugh at his mistakes.
This book can be added to my list of wonderful picture books. This book highlights the fact that Grandpa is a man of faith. He starts his day with prayer. I loved the fact that the little boy catches him in action. The book ends with Grandpa thanking God for all of His gifts. There is also a special poem of blessing for the child reading the book.
According to the author description in the back, Travis Peagler was raised in a mutli-racial neighborhood. Although he himself did not do the illustrations, I appreciated the fact that the pictures in this book reflected the author's own heritage. I do feel like it is important for kids to be able to read book featuring kids that look like them, at least some of the time. The illustrations are also bright and colorful, so I think they will appeal to kids. The bee and honey connection is also cute.
This book includes only two people along with a dog and a bee. This keeps the story simpler. The little boy's name is never given. This may help the readers/listeners to identify with the character more fully. Of course, this also leaves room for a child to put his name into the story or to make up a name for the boy.
I liked the fact that they boy was able to help his Grandpa by rescuing his tea. The author's connection to having him be a super hero was cute. Having Grandpa express his appreciation to the boy (and his dog) was definitely a positive interaction. Kids needs to be surrounded by encouraging words.
I think this book is perfect for preschoolers. I could see it being requested as a bedtime story repeatedly. The word choice is especially fun.
One note for parents: in the first bedroom illustration, the boy has a slide going down from his bunkbed. If your child(ren) have bunk beds, you may want to be prepared for this slide request.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me preview this picture book. All opinions are my own.
This is an adorable story about a grandpa, grandson, and one annoying bee! I loved watching the problem solving to figure out how to solve their problem with the bee. I also loved the illustrations and the way this family’s routines and cultures drove the story. My only wish is that the print would have looked different. It sometimes detracts from the beautiful images. I do recommend for preschoolers who like silly stories.
Bizzy Bzzz the Bee and Grandpa’s Tea is a children’s book written by Travis Peagler.
Summary: Grandpa wants to drink his tea, but the bee just won’t leave him alone!
My Thoughts: I wanted to like this book (the cover art is really cute), but I didn’t really enjoy it. The premise is good, but I thought the writing was kind of clunky and didn’t always make sense.
Maybe kids would enjoy it, but for me, it just didn’t work.
I would like to thank Script Novel Publishing for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.
This is such a cute read!! It is told through the eyes of a boy. His grandpa always has a bee around him in the morning!! This book shows how children see what is going on. I would recommend this for a classroom read aloud or to have in your home library. The pictures are wonderful as well.
A fun, loosely rhyming book about a grandson, a Grandpa, and a pesky little bee (and Grandpa's dog, too) with absolutely delightful illustrations. It's just too much fun!
I want one for my local public library. And not just for the children's section!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook from Script Novel Publishing of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) via NetGalley. Thank you!
Bizzy Bzzz the Bee and Grandpa's Tea by Travis Peagler is a beautifully illustrated, beautifully written, funny book about a Grandpa, his Grandson, a dog and their experience with a bee. I like the message of the book, the integrity of the Grandfather, and the creativeness of the Grandson and the way he came up with ideas to rescue his Grandfather from a bee. This would be a perfect book to read during a story time as a family or in a Christian classroom. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. (This review is also on GoodReads.)
Thanks, NetGalley and Script Novel Publishing, for the ARC copy of this book.
Read and reviewed by seven-year-old Amy.
Bizzy Buzzz the Bee and Grandpa’s Tea is a colorful picture book.
This book is about Grandpa trying to chase away a Bee who keeps going into his tea. This is a hilarious book with many funny instances. In this book, I learned that bees love honey. And how I came to know that, you must read this book to find out.
I liked the grandson and also sparks, the dog—who loves yoga.
This book’s cover is very attractive, and the illustrations inside the book are also excellent too.
I recommend this book to children three years and above.
I give this book 5/5 stars. I would love to read more books by this author.
This is such a cute book! The illustrations are adorable, the words rhyme and the story is funny. Kids are going to love this one!
The plot has charming moments and a clever twist, and the illustrations are quaint. All told it's not a super book, but it's diverting and heartwarming.
A funny little tale of a grandfather and his grandson and their adventures with a bee. The story is sweet and simple.
A goofy but good story little kids who appreciate adult stories. And it has a lesson in bees abd how they aren't really scary.
