The illustrations are so very sweet in this lovely little farmyard story. Chick is small but even he has a job on the farm and makes a difference in everyones day; Chick gives hugs to everyone he meets and brightens their day. This is such a sweet story and introduces children to all sorts of farm animals and their habitats: the goat climbing up high, the pigs in the mud and the ducks in the water and it showcases the importance of being caring and showing love everyday.
A Great Day for a Hug by Mack van Gageldonk is an endearing, simple tale about little Chick whose job on the farm is to bring joy to other farm animals through hugs and kisses. Small children will have fun as they learn to identify all the animals on the farm. The message is clear and sweet: every day is a great day for a hug! This book is great for toddlers as a bedtime story.
If this is meant to be a board book it feels a little too wordy. If it is meant to be a bigger hardback book for an older toddler then I would say this is a good fit. The illustrations are extremely simple which makes me feel as though it's not about entertainment as much as it is about learning that it's good to get comfort from those closest to you who care and love you.
Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The story of a chick who gives hugs to all of the farm animals. It is a very sweet book. The kids love seeing the love that Chick gives to each animal. My confusion is with the story vs the pictures. The pictures look like the chick is giving everyone kisses. I feel like the book should be titled “A Great Day for a Kiss”.
A Great Day for a Hug // written and illustrated by Mack van Gagekdonk
I really like the message of this little book. It focuses all on kindness when a chick is moving about the farm, showering all the other animals with hugs and kisses. It also shows how adults can appreciate a child's support even when they technically can't yet help around the house.. eh, farm... in more practical ways. Despite this great message though, the writing felt a bit too simplistic and choppy, not like the smooth, almost lyrical way often seen in children's books.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

An adorable book about a little chicken who helps on the farm by giving hugs. I like the simple pictures and message.
This is a sweet little book, ideal to show children about being kind to others. It has lovely illustrations and both myself and my 4 year old son enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for my ARC.
As much as this book portrays a wonderful message about the power of kindness and how important it is to take time to show the people around you kindness, the writing was a bit choppy and overly simplified.
This children's book was wonderful. It accurately depicts the contributions that even a small child can make in their world and with people around them. The illustrations were simple and colorful for a small child to understand and engage in the story.
A wonderfully pleasing story about a chick with sweet illustrations. It’s bound to delight a young audience.
This is a very short book that follows a chick going around the farm, seeing if any animals needs anything. Chick is offering a hug to anyone who needs one that day. The animals are so little cute. This would be a great bedtime story or just to have at a home library.
This book is really cute for toddlers. In times when they often feel to small to help, they can do simple things to make people feel loved, like give a hug or a kiss. I love this concept.
It's always a great day for a hug. A enjoyable farm animal picture book where little chicken is a friend to all the other farm animals. Always wanting to give a hug and make a new friend. Delightful and fun for a bonding reading time.

Super sweet book about hugs! read this to my daughter.
Love the simple illustrations appropriate for the age.
Thanks Netgalley for this copy!
A Great Day for a Hug carries an ideal message for children of all ages
The importance of something as simple as a hug is too often under rated. The illustrations are effectively simplistic. The vocabulary includes the names of baby animals which provides additional teachable moments for children.
This book would be a great picture book for an ESL learner......lots of good vocabulary and the simple illustrations provide many discussion possibilities.
Every day is......A Great Day for a Hug!
Thanks to the author, Clavis Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
This is a simple but adorable children’s book. It follows Chick as she goes around giving hugs to the other farm animals, which I Chick’s way to help on the farm.

A Great Day for a Hug is a cute little book for young toddlers. It is beautifully illustrated and written that will capture the little reader's attention and it introduces the little one to animals and the farm.. This book would be perfect for story time at home or in a public setting such as a Mommy and Me club or a Baby Story Time at a library. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (This review is also on GoodReads.)
A very simple but lovely book for little children - with the core message that a hug can make your day so much better. Skinship is definitely important & this book supports it!
Chick makes the farm animals feel special with hugs.
“A little hug can make your day feel better”
Showcases how a hug can brighten someone’s day.
Perfect book to read during circle time. Lots of moments throughout the story to stop and ask questions. Also, language development is so important in young children. The farm animals encourage language skills by learning what sounds they make.
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
