I really enjoyed T.J.'s Green Creek series and "The Extraordinaries" so I was excited for book 2! Book 2 was not the love of my life book, but the end really had me reeling in the best way! Klune can immerse you fully with his story telling. The raw emotion he conveys with his character development is astounding. Although these characters were familiar, I wanted more growth throughout the book instead of the big Finale. But the Finale was phenomenal! Definitely would recommend after reading book 1 and I desperately need book 3 already!

This book was so funny, entertaining, touched on important topics, and had a good cliffhanger. Nick’s character is A LOT, but I can’t help but love him. Seth is a sweet cinnamon roll and they compliment each other well. Nick was also a relatable character with his ADHD. I related with several aspects including his rapid thought processes, word vomit, and hyper fixation. He was a very boisterous character but never tipped over the line into being a caricature.

I also loved how unapologetically queer this book was, as well as being free from toxic masculinity as most superhero stories aren’t. The parents in this were also top-notch being equal parts accepting and supportive toward their kids but also protective and firm.

I am so eager to read the third installment, to pick up off on that cliffhanger we were left with!

A brilliant continuation from 'The Extraordinaries.

Fun of fun, zany characters, action, and a world I'm always happy to revisit.
You do not want to miss this next instalment of TJ Klune's teen, queer, super heroes!

I liked this one more than Extraordinaries! The parents, again, continue to be great. Nick mellowed a little, which was nice. I'll read the third one, even though I saw the twist coming a mile away.

Nick Bell is one of the most hilarious, well-meaning, slightly obnoxious characters I've ever read and I adore him.

In this book, we are following the after effects of what happened in The Extraordinaries. Nick has found out some BIG secrets that changed his whole outlook on the superheroes in his city (and his OTP and his fanfiction!).

Nick discovers some huge secrets in this book as well, all while juggling his friendships, his new relationship with Seth, his family, and the obnoxious Rebecca Firestone who seems to be stalking him.

Honestly, if you read this series you won't be disappointed. It's SO fun.

I have no idea why I didn't review Flash Fire sooner. I'm a big TJ Klune fan and I adored The Extraordinaries. I listened to the audio and laughed out loud so many times. Ok, parts of this book were a bit predictable, but its still a fun YA fantasy that is just DIFFERENT than a lot of other books I read. I'll continue the series for sure.

I absolutely loved this book! It was great to see Nicky and Seth grow as a couple and join Nick on his path to controlling his powers. This book was all about adding in side characters to the story and setting up the big bad even more. It was complex and fun. The reveal at the end...I'm still reeling from it and cannot wait to see how things end in book three.

Fantastic book! I’m really loving this series and can’t wait for the third one to come out. I think these are super important books to have in the world and I applaud TJ Klune for writing such wonderful characters and positively representing so many different types of people. I highly recommend these books for LGBTQ teens but also the level of entertainment and education that you can get from them is needed by everyone.

I hate to say that I didn’t love this as much as I wanted to. I just thought this was just fine. I love TJ Klune’s writing but I have started to veer away from YA. High school drama is not something I enjoy reading about anymore. It doesn’t mean I’ll stop completely and I truly thought that I would enjoy this series since I have enjoyed books like this in the past. I enjoyed most of the characters as well as the queer discussions. Sadly I saw the plot twists coming but I still enjoyed the cliff hanger this book left us on. I will still pick up the next book because I do like this series and want to see where it goes

I enjoyed this book to an extent but the police aspect of it gave me a huge amount of pause and I still am thinking about how it could have been done better.

I really loved the first book, The Extraordinaires and was so excited for more. I thought this was a good sequel, Nick and Seth are just adorable.

For me, I felt like there was a pivot on plot and characters and while I understand what was trying to be done it wasn’t completely successful and for me took away from the story. I still very much enjoyed Tj’s style and wit and am looking forward to the next book.

I was not aware that this was a sequel when I requested it. So I was a little lost and ended up not finishing it.

Nick, his superhero boyfriend, and their BFFs settle into normal life after the endgame between Pyrostorm and Shadowstar in the first book of the series. I do recommend to read these books in order.
Normal life with Nick is, of course, not what the average person perceives as normal, and while his shenanigans are somewhat over the top at times, they sure are funny for the most part.
When an old enemy subtly threatens Nick, new Superheroes arrive in town, and Nick stumbles over a secret that changes his personal world; his friends and families pull together to stay on top of evil.

This is not so much a romance as a super hero action story with some values about first love, friendship and family thrown in. And while there is a lot of talk about having sex, there is none actually happening. These are the most chaste 17year olds I've ever encountered.

Here comes the audio advantage in - one can just not give this book enough credit without the intonations that a good narrator gives the dialogs. It was captivating, funny, sad, and often annoying, and it was definitely great entertainment.

I would listen to this book for Nick's dad alone, who is absolutely awesome and, ironically, the reason why this is not a 5 star rating. Because he gets bashed, and bashed, and bashed again, for a mistake he made in his past, getting handsy with a witness in his custody who badmouthed his beloved deceased wife. Yes, of course this is wrong, but this is a long way from police brutality against minority groups. And yet it is preached about his wrong way for at least five, if not more times in the book. Really? It's a book, it's fiction, get over it!

The story ends with a semi cliffhanger - some threads (and threats) are loose, but the main threads are neatly wrapped up.

Other than that - highly recommended and I am looking forward to the third book in the series. I will wait for the release of the audio book, though.

Flash Fire is the second book in a series and continues the story of Nick who lives in a world where superheroes are a reality.

I adore T.J. Klune's writing style, he's always able to make me smile with every book and Flash Fire was no different. The chararcters are witty, funny and clever, however they still act and make decisions like teenagers. The development of the friendships and romances between Nick, Seth, Gibby and Jazz all were brilliant and really added to the story.

Klune also did a good job of starting to repair the damage he had done in the first book around the subject of police brutality. Flash Fire examines Nick's fathers role in the police and how his actions have had a negative impact in a much better way than the Extrordinaires and I praise Klune for recognising that this action needed to be taken.

I thought the main storyline was enjoyable, if a little predictable, and it moved forward at a good pace.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Flash Fire and am eagerly awaiting the next intallment in this series!

TJ Klune did it again with another fabulous installation. There is something about the way he writes adolescent characters that makes me think back to when I was that age and let’s me relate to them.

His characters are so loveable and I finished this book very quickly.

TJ Klune has become an auto buy author for me and I will read everything he writes.

TJ Klune is a master at painting a world that feels real with words. I loved this book and cannot wait for what comes next. I read this in one sitting and did not want the story to end.

This book was a tryout for me to see if I liked the whole superhero trope. I still don't know if I do. I enjoyed some parts of this and there was moments I didn't enjoy.

This was an entertaining, engaging sequel to The Extraordinaries, with heart and more than a few laughs. The plot in this book isn't perhaps as strong as the first book and I didn't find myself racing through it as quickly, but it gets us from point A to B and sets up the third book nicely. And to be honest, the plot is still great fun.

We get to see new Seth, Nick, Jazz, Gibby and all the parents become an actual team and a support network for Seth. We also get to see new Extraordinaries in this book and the fight scenes were excellent. After the ending of book 1, I was DESPERATE to see Nick realise he's got powers and begin to explore them, and this story did NOT disappoint on that front.

But one of my favourite parts of Flash Fire was seeing Nick grow and develop as a person. He's more self aware now and makes a conscious effort to try and improve himself as a person. When his Dad asks him to do better, he does better. He tries to be more present for his friends and Seth, rather than being absorbed in his own ideas or issues.

On the whole, this was a great sequel, with all the laugh-out-loud moments we've come to expect from TJ Klune, action, drama, and some twists that'll have you reeling.
