Grandma was looking after her 7-year-old granddaughter when she went missing from the fair. Grandma says she doesn’t know how that happened, but grandma is scatty and wasn’t even supposed to be looking after her granddaughter. Who is responsible, and where is the granddaughter?
I don’t know why but I always find the missing children trope so appealing, lol. But this is more of a domestic thriller, with fiery tension between characters, them keeping secrets from each other, and secretly hating on each other when no one is looking, but with top-notch politeness, lol. The blame keeps on shifting from one person to another, all the characters are annoying and shifty, there are some twists and turns, and I was able to guess the culprit from a mile. But this is definitely a very enjoyable read, makes for a perfect cozy mystery for a lazy day.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. When 7 year old Beatrice goes missing while with her grandmother, Jill, all fingers seem to point to the same person. I so enjoyed this book. The story is told in part by Beatrice's mom and grandmother. I was so hooked and could not put this book down until I found out what happened. I continually second guessed myself through the whole book.
This is the second book I have read by Shalini Boland and I had high hopes, however sadly this book did slightly miss the mark.
My Little Girl, tells the story of missing Bea, she goes missing while being watched by her very scatty grandma Jill at the local fair. The story is told from multiple view points, and while I enjoy that the story was fairly predictable, and the outcome was underwhelming, without spoiling it it felt like it was wrapped dup to quickly, and not many breadcrumbs were left, I like to have an idea on the whodonit
not have it just explained at the end.
An underwhelming read, but I will still read more from this author, the first story I read by Shalini was amazing and I certainly will be looking out for future releases.
Shalini does it again everytime I pick up one of her books I know it’s going to be amazing. I haven’t read one I don’t like so far and this one I think is my fave she is a stunning writer and I look forward to more from her!!

I enjoyed how this book started out right away with the action, but I quickly grew tired of the repetitive inner monologuing & conversations the characters would engage in. I ended up skimming some sentences because I couldn’t stand to read the same thing over again. I also never felt like I got to know any of the characters fully because of this; only sparse details about each was given. I was expecting to read chapters from Oliver’s POV for example, and the book alternated just between Jill and Claire, with the occasional missive from the kidnapper. So many of these books are just from a female viewpoint, and it would have been a nice change of pace reading about how the father feels for once.
Other readers have called this book “predictable”, but I was in the minority when it came to the final reveal of the kidnapper. Once again, much to my chagrin, the villain revealed their plan to the the victim before the police arrived. I’m SO TIRED of this trope and whenever I read about it, it instantly sours the book for me. Please writers, I’m begging you, there’s got to be a better way to write a conclusion! There was also an act that Jill committed towards the climax that felt extremely far fetched and just came across as a lazy way for her to be involved in the climax
This was my first Shalini Boland book.
Oliver was supposed to take his seven year old daughter Beatrice and her friend to the fair. But at the last minute, he asks his mother Jill to do it. While the girls are in the hall of mirrors, Jill gets a phone call from Laurel, Oliver's first wife. She loses sight of the girls and Beatrice disappears...
The story is told from Jill's and Claire's (Beatrice's grand-mother and mother) points of views.
I really appreciated that this book was more about family relationships than child abduction. I recommend this book and certainly read others Shalini Boland books.

I always love it when Shalini Boland released a new book. I just know for at least one night I am going to go without sleep and most of all have a really good read .......my only problem is when I have a good read I do not stop reading until I finish the book. I have tried for almost 50 years to condition myself to read for one hour per night You can safely say I failed miserably.once again Shsilini as done it again.,out do her last book I just genuinely think it's not possible yet she does it every single time.she. 7 year old Beatrice goes missing from the fun fair that her grandmother Jill takes her and her friend Millie because her son Ollie is so tired. Well to say Clare is not happy would be a understatement to say the least. It becomes a nightmare for Clare. Her husband Ollie her grandmother jill. Jill feels bad because be a went missing under her wach. Jill k led Clare doesn't !one her look g of going anti with bea because she doesn't trust Jill. On this occasion it's proofed her right.the police are called and the nightmare really behind for Clare and Ollie when the police r want to search there home Clare is shocked to think the police could think either her or Olie would hurt there own child.as the day stretches I. Until morning Ollie, Clafe.Jill.can not believe that bea as been out all night. There are more twist in the book than there is in a corkscrew. At one month I am sat in bed with my heat in my mouth as I just do not I is which was it's going I thought at one point it was Ollie ex-wife. Then I dismissed that bad it was too obvious. There are a few you could take a good guess at and had it been one of the few. People along with the fairground workers anyone would have been a viable option. What I didn't expect not in the slightest was the result twist as to who took her I was holding my breath when they missed a turning that was my first thought I wonder and dismissed it I actually found I had to breath once a explanation was given for having missed a turn not sure howling held my breath for. But I was taking a few big gasps of breath You must really read this one it's a blockbusters of a book. A real blockbuste. I highly recommend you to read it brilliant
7-year-old Beatrice goes missing whilst out with her grandmother, Jill. It happens in a busy fairground with little CCTV, and zero witnesses. The POV of this story alternates between Jill, Beatrice's grandmother, and Claire, Beatrice's mother. Everyone in this book was suspicious, and I read it in one sitting to find out who it was. I would recommend it to anyone!
Shalini Boland does it again! 5 HUGE stars from this blogger! I was automatically intrigued by the book description and knew I would be sucked in to the story within the first few pages! How can you not love a story about a Granny who takes her granddaughter to the fair with her friend and then loses her? The series of events that follows had me at the edge of my seat yet cracking up. Granny (Jill) continues to put her foot in her mouth and get herself into a mess of trouble even though it seems that all she cares about is finding her precious granddaughter Bea. This book has quite the cast of characters and Shalini Boland does a masterful job at keeping you guessing until the end! I will ALWAYS pick up a Shalini book because I am never disappointed!
Love love love Shalini Boland and she did not disappoint!!! It's a parent's worst nightmare, your child is missing and you've no idea what has happened. I read this with bated breath!!! A gripping psychological thriller that will keep you guessing!
7 year old Beatrice goes missing while out at the fair with her granny Jill. Her parents Oliver and Claire are beyond their themselves with worry and can't imagine who would want to hurt their little girl. So many suspects, so few clues. What would you do in their situation?
Very suspenseful and great pacing of the story.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC.
I was excited to finally get a Shalini Boland book. I have heard great things about her previous books.
This was a fast-paced suspense novel, easy to read and hard to put down. It grabbed my attention from the first page and left me trying to guess and then doubting and guessing again who took Bea until the reveal.
4 Stars! Highly recommend reading.
A brilliant psychological thriller which romps along at pace.
This is not just a child abduction story it has so much more including secrets from long ago, friendship disputes and family disputes. It twists and turns throughout the book and hooks you in from page one and doesn’t let go until the end.
I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
This was my first Boland's book and as soon as I've finished it I downloaded other three of hers!
I loved this book, it's a gripping domestic psychological thriller that had me hooked from page one.
7 years old Beatrice is abducted while under her grandmother supervision at the fair. Who might have taken her and why?
Boland makes a great job of letting you guess right till the end, and even though in the end the kidnapper is who you thought it might be, you were never sure enough to think it predictable.
Very good!!

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book, I found the story totally predictable and lacking in imagination. I felt nothing for any of the characters, they were very one dimensional and lacked depth. This is a shame as I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.
I felt this was quite predictable and I very quickly guessed the plot and so didn't get as caught up in the drama as I would have liked. I felt the characters lacked depth and I didn't feel I engaged with them properly. Not Boland's best work but I will have customers that I know will enjoy the writing and storyline and will recommend it to them.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review
Jill takes her granddaughter 7 year old Beatrice to the fair and she loses her in the hall of mirrors. How is she going to tell her daughter in law Claire who thinks Jill is not responsible enough to look after her daughter when her husband Oliver is supposed to be the one who took Beatrice to the fair.
The story of the missing child is told from both Jill and Claire’s perspective and the horror of a missing child when both women do not get on at the best of times. The story is well written and well defined between the two women with differing personalities and narratives.
The two women are surrounded by various helpful friends including the ex daughter in law who has remained friends with Jill much to Claire’s disgust. There are lot of theories of what happened to Beatrice was she lost or stolen ? read the book and find out. 4 stars
I adore Shalini Boland books. She always is a one click for me. This one had me hooked from page 1. I almost felt every emotion in the book. I felt like I was there in the story. I definitely recommend this one.
Seven year old Beatrice goes missing whilst at the local fair with her grandmother and friend. Jill her grandmother is distracted by a phone call, an hour later and she is still not found. Claire her mother rushes to the fair to see that there are police officers everywhere. Claire is after answers, why was Beatrice not at the fair with her father as planned? How could her mother in law lose her daughter? Something doesn’t seem right and Claire starts to suspect all those who are closest to her.
My little girl kept me wanting to read on to find out what happened with Beatrice, the story was told from a few perspectives of both Jill, and Claire’s and the kidnapper! You can truly empathise with both characters and question yourself, how well do you know those around you?
Thankyou to NetGalley and Bookouture for an Arc in exchange for an honest opinion
Another great book by Shalini Boland! A child going missing is every parents worst nightmare and Boland manages to capture those emotions with raw precision.
Jill has taken her 7 year old granddaughter Bea and her friend Millie to the fair. Once in the hall of mirrors, Jill receives a phone call from her sons ex wife Laurel which distracts her from watching the two girls and they go missing. Full of panic Jill begins to call her granddaughters name whereby a young woman offers to help. Eventually they find Millie but she has no clue of where Bea is.
Claire, Bea’s mother, is beside herself with distress and begins pointing the blame at her husband. Why wasn’t he with her like he promised? Why was her mother in law talking to his ex wife? I must say that the book does feel a touch slow at times with going backwards and forwards of who could have took Bea but I very much enjoyed it nonetheless!
