Like a Boss by Anne Harper was such a fun story! Antonella “Nell” Bennet accidentally goes viral ranting about her break up with long time boyfriend at a restaurant on couples night! Enter our hero with the arresting jawline, Quinn Hannigan. He saves her that night by offering her seat. After dinner they thought they’d never see each again but fate has a funny way of working things out.
I really enjoyed the story and I found myself laughing quite a bit at Nell’s shenanigans. Nell is such a quirky lovable character. Quinn is so swoon worthy but at times I just wanted to shake him! He’s so determined to be single! I also fell in love with their town, Arbor Bay and can’t wait to read more about the other characters in the story.

Like A Boss is a witty, clever, fun read. It’s your typical easy going, light hearted rom com. Some parts felt a little silly. The book went super fast. I really like Nell’s character. She was funny, kind, and full of life. She definitely made the book. Her big family was also a highlight and I’d love a follow up on a few of them. Quinn wasn’t as easy to love but he grows on you. My only problem with the book was that towards the end it got a little silly and dramatic. It wasn’t all super believable. But the in end it wrapped up nicely. I’d say this is a weak 4 ⭐️.
Thank you Entangled Publishing for the ARC
Like a Boss is a charming office romance with a twist. This is my first time reading Anne Harper and I already want more.
The story begins with Nell having a horrible Valentine's Day. Not only was she dumped but she can't even eat a nice meal at a restaurant because all the tables are reserved for couples only. Then, a charming man named Quinn saves the day. He offers to share a table with her and they end up having a fun and witty conversation. The night ends with a kiss but neither thought it would ever go past that night.
Quinn and Nell were in for a surprise when they walked into Heart in Hand and realized that he was her new boss. They have to keep things professional but with chemistry like theirs, it's going to be tough.
Nell and Quinn are fun to read about with their witty banter. I thought they took it slow and were able to get to know each other before jumping into anything too quickly. I feel like this is a pair that many readers will root for!
I give Like a Boss 4 stars. This office romance was so cute and brought a smile to my face. I loved the initial meet-cute and there were so many adorable moments between the two. This book was enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of Anne Harper's books.
Nell has had a disaster of a day. Her long-term boyfriend dumped her for someone else - just as she thought he was going to propose to her! Taking shelter in a bar, she lets fly with the biggest, loudest, most poignant rant against Valentine's Day and love in general. Little did she know that t has been recorded for posterity and she is about to become an internet sensation.
Quinn takes pity on the highly wound but attractive nonetheless, fellow anti-Valentine. They share a meal when Nell doesn't have enough cash to get anything substantial to eat and have a great time.
They say their goodbyes and the day ends on a better note.
But Karma is fickle and Nell is about to find out that her new boss has arrived - and it's Quinn. Not the greatest first impression she's ever made! Get ready for a slow-burn, office romance in the quirkiest town! The whole population sets about trying to set Nell up just about LOL.
There is plenty of humour throughout and there is a great character to hate - Keith, the skeevy so-called journalist who is more of a predator! I really felt for Nell - her heated, moment of madness rant has been spread far and wide and now she's going to have to try and hold firm to her convictions made in the heat of the moment - all while feeling the pull to Quinn!
Great read, plenty to keep you entertained and a HEA!
The book started off really well and I liked Nell's frustration in the first chapter when she was spitting facts about love. But all throughout the book, it was a little hard to finish.
I'll start with the things I like:
1. Quinn is very well-written. His thoughts and actions, even his hesitations are clear.
2. Quinn drinking his respect women tea everyday <3
3. Mateo and Nell's adorable relationship.
4. I appreciate the attempt in making the book fun and lively
On the other hand, I feel like Nell's character was a little flat, to be honest. This is a "ball-of-sunshine" female lead and "i-hate-everyone" (sort of) male lead kind of trope. But only Quinn's character is described well-enough, Nell's character is written in a way that she's just TOLD to be fun but I didn't really see or feel it at all. I think Nell's family could have been cut down to a few because they felt almost non-existent (perhaps, I just failed to see their importance other than Nell's relationships) but I know its role in Nell's character so there's that. I didn't connect with the characters at all and found that I simply didn't care that much.
Overall, the story felt a little too corny to me. I wasn't a big fan of the writing. Somehow it seemed like it was more on telling rather than showing in terms of the description that I also found corny. It was just not for me but I can see older audiences enjoying this book.

A disastrous but funny meet cute takes a turn when the guy who saved her evening turns out to be her new boss. A cute enough small town romance but the actual writing was disjointed and drawn out. It seemed like there was a lot of filler content with so much random information given about secondary characters that was unnecessary.
Additionally, I just couldn’t wrap my head around such a small town (they talk about how small it is every few pages) having “paparazzi” and it’s own tabloid blog big enough for anyone to care about.
This was a nice and entertaining read. I enjoyed it very much.
Nell was a strong and independent woman who was passionate about what she did but was hurt by the way a past relationship ended. Recently divorced Quinn was a handsome stranger Nell kissed after ranting about men. She never imagined he was going to end up being his new boss.
I loved their chemistry and their easy conversation, it flowed natural and the attraction was palpable in every scene. I loved how defensive Quinn became about her and how he opened up his heart without noticing. The crazy situations they both were involved in and the rest of the cast were funny and the feelings they developed for each other gave me sweet and swoony feelings.
Thank you so much NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this advanced copy!
Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled for an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was light-hearted and fun, and some of the silly scenes really made me laugh. While the characters and storyline were predictable, it mostly moved along at a nice pace and kept my attention. However, the last 25% or so seemed to drag on and I was just waiting for everything to wrap up. I did like the characters and the slow-burn romance.
I like the idea of this series (especially since all the books are standalone) and look forward to reading the next one.
Thanks for the chance to read and review Like A Boss.
This was a fun, lighthearted romance novel that tells the story of Nell and Quinn who meet in a random situation on Valentines Day. I liked the two main characters and the way their relationship developed but I wasn't overly keen on the ending.
The supporting characters were good and added some depth to the story.
Nice and easy beach read.
Nell is an eccentric bubbly character who takes all the oddness that goes with small-town living in her stride. She and Quinn had amazing chemistry and Nell really helped him to grow as a character. When he ends things 3/4 through the story it made me lose respect for the story. It was thrown in to add an obstacle to HEA and it ended up ruining the whole story for me.
I absolutely love the cover and it's an attention grabber and makes you want to read the book. Unfortunately, the last few chapters really let it down.
3.5 stars
Fun, fluffy romance about a small town Southern girl with a big personality. It’s Valentine’s Day, Antonella “Nell” Bennett just got dumped and is hangry! She’s misplaced her purse and a handsome stranger offers to split the Sweetheart Special dinner with her. The restaurant wants a Polaroid of them for their Valentines Wall. The chaste kiss Nell gives the stranger deepens into something more. But, they go their separate ways, without exchanging info...
Nell’s office is getting a new manager. Three guesses who it is, and the first two don’t count!
Nell comes from a big family, so there’s lots of amusing supporting characters. Some are over-the-top, but it’s all in fun.
This book isn’t life-changing or deep. It’s light and fun. I’d read more by this author. Perfect beach read. Thanks NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read a digital ARC in return for an honest review.
This was a fun read, nothing to serious but it did cheer me up and passed an afternoon. Fun story, great characters and a warning about social media lol. Worth a read
This book gave me insane Heart of Dixie vibes throughout the entire novel. So, if you’re a fan of southern flare then buckle up because you’ll love this rom com romance.
The premise of this novel was great. Nell, a loud and outgoing girl who is going through a recent break up meets Quinn, a shy guy who is just passing through town. They connect over dinner. It’s happenstance that Quinn ends up being Nell’s new boss. They’re out through some trials and tribulations that force them to work together and we as readers see just “how meant to be” they truly are while they as the characters are unaware until the last possible moment.
It’s a predictable read with cute and funny moments dispersed throughout the novel. This is definitely one of the stereotypical cliched romance reads.
The author tried to bring a twist into the cliche by making the protagonist, Nell, go viral during a diatribe she has about never dating again. This rant happens on Valentine’s Day of all days at a restaurant where lots of people whip out their phone to record the incident. This twist, was a welcome one. The added twists off Keith, a sketchy blog journalist, following around Nell to show “the world” that she isn’t who she says she is and is in fact out about and saying men even though she swore off men felt out of place. I could see if she was promoting her non dating rant to everyone and that was how Nell made her money but Nell ranted right after a breakup. She was hysterical and used that moment to vent and release all the emotions she was feeling about the relationship she was in ending. Having someone hold you to what you said during one of those types of rants doesn’t make sense. It’s like me saying I don’t like not fitting in my skinny jeans and will start a diet in Monday. NO one is going to hold me to it but myself. Keith’s don’t exist so he felt out of place in this novel.
Other than that, this novel was a good and solid read. It flowed well and kept me entertained throughout.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for review.
Like a Boss is the story of Nell (who went viral ranting against love on Valentine's Day) and Quinn (the handsome luddite stranger who rescued her on Valentine's Day and turned up as her boss a couple weeks later).
It's set up as a rom-com, and there is no shortage to the amusing situations these two find themselves in. It will appeal to folks who like light reads with a small town feel.
But it didn't really work for me. At first I had trouble with the author's style - things were often phrased in ways that I had to read a couple of times before understanding. And the chemistry wasn't strong. It's also very low on the steam factor - there was one kind of love scene and it got interrupted for romance reasons.
I also spent a fair amount of time wondering about Quinn's anti-technology ways. It was a way for him to be insulated from the viral moment at the beginning, but how many 34 year olds are really that annoyed with all technology? It's not a huge thing, but I definitely got hung up on it.
While some folks will love it, this one's not for me.
2.5 stars.
I received an ARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. Thanks to Entangled.
This an ideal book for readers who love drama for the sake of drama.
Antonella Bennett feels extremely sad and angry for being abandoned by her boyfriend on Valentine's Day. This leads her to venting all of her frustrations to a host at a restaurant where this encounter goes viral. Nell is a complete mess and the whole woe-is-me attitude is entertaining at first. But this doom and gloom situation continues to influence her interactions with Quinn Hannigan.
Quinn has a lot of baggage in his life that affects his relationship with Nell. But the one thing that mostly comes up is that he is her boss and it's not exactly virtuous of her to pursue a relationship with him. Their attraction and buildup towards a relationship didn't seem that believable. Inspite of these flaws, it is a relatively light-hearted read. This book has left me curious about the other characters in Arbor Bay and I would love to know more about them.
Like A Boss by Anne Harper a fabulous five-star read. This is an easy story to fall in love with, Nell is adorable even when she losses her mind and causes a scene, honestly the best thing she did. I adored Nell and really enjoyed her journey, her family and just simply her. Nell had that extra something, she really lit the page when she was on it, making me smile as much as she did the other characters, even when she was jumping out of a window. Quinn is the complete opposite of Nell, but that’s what she needs, she needs the quiet to her loud, the contemplative to her shouty and someone who would defend her like she does everyone else. This is charming and sweet, and does get a little saccharin at times, but its so good that it just seems like part of the story. I for one cant wait to see what else will happen in Arbor Bay.
Like a Boss by Anne Harper was a fun, lighthearted, and relatable read. I was laughing and hooked throughout the story. Everyone can relate in some way as the characters and plot were very realistic and engaging. I definitely would recommend this book as the characters are well developed and all are likable. I also loved the small town vibes and how I felt like I was apart of Anchor Bay!

If you like small town soap opera-style romance then this book is for you. Unfortunately, that is not my cup of tea at all, and hence I really did not like this book. The characters irritated me and didn’t seem to have any chemistry, for some reason none of the book felt believable or real to me, and I found the writing to be incredibly bland.
But like I said, I think that if the other reviews make this sound like this book will be up your street, then you’ll likely enjoy it. It just wasn’t for me.
Yeahhhh...no. This isn't working for me. The characters are flat. The writing is sloppy. The dialogue mostly consists of 'he said, she said' and there's absolutely no chemistry or bond to be found between any characters. 20% in and the book was driving me insane. Mooooving on.
She wanted to have a meal after being told she wasn't the one, he was having dinner on his own. Serendipity brings Nell and Quinn together on Valentine's Day of all days with no way of knowing that won't be the last they see of each other.
I couldn't put this book down, it was an easy read lighthearted read with some laugh-out-loud moments, revelations, some minimal angst, and a slow burn romance that better be the one.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
