***3 Stars***
This is a total “It’s not you, it’s me” thing because I was totally looking forward to Benny’s book and yet, I just couldn’t get into it. I love the seven. I love all the characters that make up this world, but it was a struggle to stay focused. But while I’m giving this one 3 stars right now, I am keeping it at the top of the list to read again because I definitely feel like I’ve was just in a wonky reading mood that I’m finally coming out of and I will have more to say on after a re-read.
Rebel’s Karma by Rebecca Zanetti is the thirteenth book in her Dark Protector series. Can you believe? Thirteenth! I cannot believe what we have lived through and how the little ones have grown up and we have moved on from the ‘normal’ vampires and witches and demons to hybrids and the Seven and the Cyst and… and really, you should read the whole series, from book 1 … and … I know I digress …
Rebel’s Karma gives us vampire-hybrid Benjamin “Benny” Reese’s story, we have waited for a while for it and I knew it would be one heck of a story after we met Karma (his beautiful blonde mate) and she refused to go along with Ben when they met on a rescue mission. Rebecca gives giving us some strong females and Karma is as strong as one can be – mated to a Kurjan and saving a toddler and being emotionally abused and still not losing her spirit, she is a perfect mate for one of the Seven.
At times I would just love to visit Rebecca’s head … especially when I read the Dark Protectors series … how does she come up with it all? How does she make it all so believable? How often do I sit back and think to myself … maybe, just maybe it is all possible …
I loved how Benny felt for Karma and tried to build her up and listened to her and how they really complimented each other … and the twins, just wait until you meet the twins! The other thing that I love about Dark Protectors series is the storyline with Hope and Drake and Pax (and Libby). I can see some crazy action in our future and I hope that once all the members of the Seven have found their mates, some additional story line will pop up and we will remain in this universe for … ever!
The book I have been waiting for finally dropped and I couldn’t wait to read Benny and Karma’s story, but man I couldn’t even have imagined just where this one would take me! The Dark Protector Series has evolved a lot over the years since the beginning and has lasted a very long time (story time) but each new story is so packed with drama and danger that you just don’t want it to end. Benny’s story has been on my radar since I first met him because he just such an intensely lovable idiot and crazy at the best of times and in the best of ways. Benny has spent the last three years staging battles and situations to get him closer to the woman he met for only moments in the heat of a battle, but she’s with the bad guys—even though she’s been chosen by fate as his true mate. Karma is intrigued and terrified of the big crazy hybrid that has supposedly been after her for years, but when she comes face to face with him again she has no idea how strong the pull to him will be, or just what he has in store for her. Escaping with his mate is no easy feat, but Benny is no ordinary hybrid and he will stop at nothing to get her to safety. But can two people that have lived on different sides of a deadly battle for centuries find a happy life and love together when there are obstacles being thrown at them left and right and the final battle is bearing down on them. Benny truly is the perfect amount of crazy to make any woman wonder if he takes that crazy to the bedroom, but other than that he is a total badass, sweet and cute at the oddest of moments. I have liked him from the beginning of this new story arc, but seeing him as he fell in love with Karma and worked to convince her to be his brought out the best parts of him in my opinion, making him even more dangerously protective and even when he thought Karma was his enemy he was unable to truly be mean to her or resist her. Just the way he brought her comfort and protected her from the dangers she never imagined she would be facing, with a lightness and laughter that kept the world from truly being too much for Karma shows the depths of Benny’s greatness. Karma was a weird one to get to know in the beginning; we knew something wasn’t quite right with her, though we wanted to like and trust her because she was Benny’s woman and he deserved his mate, and then it became apparent that her life truly wasn’t her own. The love she showed for those she protected and then for Benny and his friends was deep and was what drove her every decision, not caring about her own life and making her the perfect mate for Benny. She was sweet and naïve in many ways, but in so many others was world weary. I enjoyed seeing her truly find her way out of the clutches of the Kurjans and then return to danger in order to keep not just those she loved safe but also to provide protection for the team and the Realm against their enemies. In the end she truly showed that she would be trusted with Benny’s heart and would be a great member of the team. The passion between Benny and Karma was interesting to watch develop because though there was attraction from the beginning they were truly on different sides of the war and the obstacles between them seemed insurmountable. Once they overcame all that stood between them, the passion, love and laughter was almost too perfect to bear and I loved every moment of it that we got to witness. I am dying for Sam’s book (immortal’s Honor) which is coming next and then of course I think that only leaves one (maybe two) left in this overall arc before the Eight and their enemies will have to meet in the ultimate battle. Where the series goes from there I couldn’t begin to guess, but I know I will definitely be along for whatever wild ride Rebecca decides to take us and her characters on next.
These books are great, even after 13 of them (and a spin-off series)! While I'm sure you could eventually understand this world starting here, it's definitely recommended to start from the beginning. Since we are in a mix of the second/third/first/whatever generation of these immortal families, it gets kind of confusing without an intro.
Remember crazy Benjamin Reese? Well, during a raid, he was touched by a Kurjan's mate who was helping them load people into the helicopter. That one touch told him that she was his mate, but his life is never easy. It was fantastic watching this crazy weirdo try to tone himself down to be more palatable to his would-be mate, only to let his freak flag fly in the end. Karma, who has been pretty much brainwashed by the Kurjans, ends up having to re-evaluate her life, all the while juggling her responsibilities with the attraction to this insane dude.
Did I mention I love Benny? He's the best, and watching him get a family was the most satisfying installment I've read in a while. Are there other, larger storylines at work here? Yes, of course. We're still fighting against the apocalypse, trying to keep the scales tipped to "good," but there are also these bonds and feelings of family that run throughout the series (just like the Fast and Furious franchise, right?).
Rebel's Karma is the 17th in the Dark Protectors series and doesn't disappoint. This was the second I've read by this author and series and though it can be read as a standalone, I enjoy the books so much I've started reading the series from the beginning to get the full effect of the story that runs through all the books in the series. Rebel's Karma is fast-paced, action-packed, humorous, emotional and steamy. I can't wait for the next installment to see what happens next!
Loved it! This series gets better with each new installment. I absolutely love Benny & Karma's story. Her transformation is amazing and Benny is wonderful as always. There is so much intrigue, steam and action it is really hard to put down. Love, love, love it. I cannot wait for the next one.
Another great release by Rebecca Zanetti in the Dark Protectors series. This one has Benjamin and Karma as our H/h. The seven are still fighting the Kurjans and getting ready for the final battle with Ulric.
Benjamin has been looking for Karma for 3 years. He finally finds her when he gets capture. This book has the similar setup as the other releases however it works and you feel it is getting closer to the final showdown.
Lots of action and steamy times. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.
I was able to get an ARC via NetGalley. However, I read the book a week before it was out. I gave my honest review.
I love this book! Love this book so much that I wanna read this over and over again. Ever since I read about Benny, I was hoping that he will have a story of his own. I was so happy that was he was going to have a book, and his connection to the Seven was also something I was not expecting when I read him with the Reese Brothers.
Karma? well, she was something else. I love her and being Benny's mate was something else, their connection was something she was not expecting. Then again, Benny is something too.
As for the other people in the book? I cannot wait for their book! Sam, should watch out since it is his book next!
Rebel’s Karma by Rebecca Zanetti
Dark Protectors #13
Three years since he has seen her, and he still wants her…the day he touched her he realized she was his mate and needs to be saved from the Kurjans… This is his chance. Is there a future for one of THE SEVEN with this enhanced human immortal once mate to a Kurjan or…not.
What I liked:
* Benny: one of The Seven, a “brother” to the other seven, vampire-demon hybrid, fierce, loyal, dedicated, lethal, loving, more than he realizes, might have a HEA if he can leave behind a few assumptions.
* Karma: over two hundred years old, once mated to a Kurjan, servant to the Kurjans since widowed, sees and speaks with ghosts, helps others, has adopted twin daughters, fearful and “weak” but able to grow through the story.
* The way Karma’s fear was overcome
* The relationship between Benny and Karma as it developed
* Linda – the ghost
* How Terre was dealt with
* The twins (Boone and Belle) and the eventual B-Club
* Seeing the others from previous books
* The part the Bear nation played in helping out – and wondering what they will get up to in the future
* Catching a glimpse of what is bothering Garrett
* Seeing Honor (the lock), Honor’s friends Paston and Libby, seeing Honor’s Kurjan “dream” friend Drake…and wondering how their story will play out and what part they will play in the long game
* Being reminded (a bit) of the other story lines and entities in the series
* That some of the bad guys were thwarted
* Contemplating how and when the series will finally end
What I didn’t like:
* Those I was meant not to like/trust
* Wondering how many more books there will be in the series…kind of want to KNOW how it ends.
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington—Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
If there was a demon-vampire hybrid that would be the life of the party, it would be Benny. As serious as his life is, this alpha protector knows you have to live. Benny has so much to him. A fun and a bit crazy side yet is so sweet at times he will make your heart go pitter patter.
Karma is so brave and an incredibly strong Woman. She’s endured so much but yet she keeps fighting. Losing her mate just as they were beginning their time together, to never be able to meet again, to being put into a situation beyond her control. Her femininity it’s a beautiful touch to her personality. It’s who she is and she lets that part of her self shine. For someone who does their best to blend in she definitely stands out.
Rebecca Zanetti is definitely turning it up in Rebels Karma. There are some many levels of intensity to the story and it just gets better along the way. Benny and Karma are beautiful together. Benny’s caring nature helps Karma on the path of finding her true self. They complement each other beautifully and their passion is so deep. The situation is getting heated and everyone is willing to do what it takes to keep everyone safe or to get to their ultimate goal. Rebecca Zanetti is definitely keeping us on our toes.
PNR deliciousness.
Benny and Karma are a total vibe. Benjamin is a overprotective, possessive alpha brood. Karma is a timeless sweetheart with strong momma instincts and nobody's fool.
These pair cracked me up. The chemistry, the connection that blossomed and the back and forth banter and bickering really set the pace for the journey and made me feel all the feels. It was an interesting dynamic to say the least.
I love this crazy intricate world that Rebecca has created with these multidimensional characters and unpredictable happenings. There truly never is a dull moment. Things are getting real interesting and relationship dynamics are changing between characters and it has me so curious about where she's taking this world. Of course like most my curiosity is firmly on Hope and what will become of her future as things evolve with Drake and Pax. I have a feeling my heart will be broken and I'm not ready for it but I also need answers!!!.
With every book comes more revelations and many more whispered hints into future possibilities that fuel my curious fire. Benny and Karma's story is a fabulous addition to the series and had me crying laughing more times than I can count. It's one you won't want to miss.
Whilst every book focuses on one couple, you do have a continuous storyline running through the series so I highly recommend reading in order!.
Thank you, Net Galley, for providing me a free copy of the ebook!
I haven’t read anything by this author before and I haven’t really been into Paranormal Romance lately, so I didn’t know what to expect, especially since this is pretty far into the series. However, it was EXACTLY what I needed. There was so much action and such a rich world, but I caught on pretty quickly to everything.
Ben and Karma are fated mates, but Karma has been being held prisoner by Ben’s enemies, the Kurjans and the Cysts. The Kurjan leader, Terre, wants to have Karma’s mating with her mate who passed away centuries ago negated so that he can claim her. He cannot touch her as long as she still has a mate tie, even if her mate is dead. The only way known to do this is to have her infected with a virus that may kill her. So, she is sent to spy on Ben’s people because the Kurjan’s know they are experimenting with the virus and will want to test it on her. Things do not go exactly as the Kurjans planned, as Ben knows that Karma is his mate and isn’t going to let Karma go back to the abusive Kurjans.
Ben struggles with how to deal with his connection to Karma because he is part of a group called The Seven who must fight to prevent an ancient prophecy from coming true. Ben thinks he will likely die and doesn’t want to love anyone or leave a mate behind. This becomes even more complicated when Ben discovers the leverage Terre is using to make Karma do what he wants.
My favorite line came pretty close to the beginning when Ben is getting ready to take Karma from the Kurjan stronghold and before they leave he says to her “Is there anybody here you want me to kill before we go?” He says is completely seriously and I almost died. 😂🤣😂🤣
I cannot WAIT to dive more into this series. It was so fun and I really want to learn more about this fascinating world that Rebecca Zanetti has created. ♥️
(Please note I have submitted this review on Amazon, but they put it in a queue for review and they do not seem to like my posting reviews for ARCs when I didn’t buy it from them. Hopefully they will approve it and it will go live soon.)
What a wonderful addition to the Dark Protectors series by the incomparable Rebecca Zanetti! From page 1 to the very end this book was action-packed and I had trouble putting it down!
Benny is one of the Seven. Benny has had the mating mark on his palm since he first interacted with Karma three years ago, but figures there's no reason to mate because his life is going to be over when the final battle comes...and he feels it's coming soon. He just doesn't realize that the heart wants what it wants!
In the beginning of this book, Benny allows himself to be captured so he can be thrown in the same cell as Karma. He plans to rescue her whether she wants it or not! She just wants to complete the mission for the Kurjans so she can get back to save her girls. The sparks begin to fly between the two of them very quickly and Karma doesn't know how to deal with all of it. Karma has never met a man like Benny before and she never knows what to expect!
Benny realizes Karma might be "the one" and when she goes back to the Kurjans to rescue her daughters (with the help of a ghost!) Benny momentarily loses sight of her...but he finds her, rescues her and her girls and takes them all back to his home. It doesn't take long for Benny to fall under the spell of the twins and he decides that even if his life is on the line, he deserves to be happy, and his girls, all three of them, are what he deserves.
I really, really enjoyed this book and it made me very happy to read that Benny finally found his love!
An entertaining, fast-paced and action-packed book I think you'll really enjoy! Go ahead...give it a try!
Feels like it’s been awhile since I’ve lost myself in the Dark Protectors series. I checked and yep, looks like I’m a few books behind. No worries, I know what to expect and I love all the characters and plots, so I expect no less with Rebel’s Karma.
Ah Bennie! I’ve always liked him. He was always the crazy fun one, but I always knew he was going to a sweet softie when he finally gets his mate. Whoopsie! Looks like having missed a few books does matter because I missed that Karma and Bennie have previously met…and mated! Well, at least on his side. Karma (What a name! 0.o) is she pretty amazing when you think all that she has been through. She rises like the Phoenix as she goes from her miserable life with the Kurjans, to eventually finding her strength and empowerment to be the woman she was always meant to be with Bennie.
Now I really need to stay on top of this series because I am dying to find out what happens between Hope, Pax, and Drake. This triangle has been building for a while and as much as I am enjoying everyone else’s stories, this is the one that has me on the edge of my seat. Pax is so sweet, but I just don’t feel that hot chemistry between him and Hope, not like what I sense between her and Drake. Is Drake a good guy or bad? He’s a Kurjan so my instincts say bad but then there are moments…Ack! It’s so hard to tell. The torture of not knowing is killing me!
This story was fast paced and hard to put down. Peppered explosive situations, moments that had me giggling, and revisits with previous characters, Rebecca Zanetti has outdone herself with this latest installment in the Dark Protectors. Don’t miss out on Rebel’s Karma. It is well worth the read. Can’t wait for the next book!
Stars: 4.5
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Absolutely loved Loved Loved Loved this book..... Can not wait for the next one......
Another fabulous addition to the dark protectors world by the BRILLIANT Rebecca Zanetti!. I absolutely adored Benny from the previous books and fell completely in love with him in this one, karma was a perfect match for his particular brand of crazy.
From page 1 to the very end this book was action-packed and I had trouble putting it down!
An entertaining, fast-paced and action-packed book I think you'll really enjoy! Go ahead...give it a try!
This series is fantastic can’t get enough of it please keep this series going. Anybody thinking of reading this series you will not be disappointed.......
Rebel's Karma, book 13 in Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors paranormal romance series, picks up with the craziest member of the Seven brotherhood, vampire-demon hybrid Benjamin Reese continuing his search for enhanced human Karma imprisoned by the Kurjans. Despite already being mated to a Kurjan, she somehow activated his mating mark during a rescue attempt by the Seven months ago, and he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about her or forgive himself for not getting her to leave with him then.
I’m always excited to read one of Rebecca Zanetti’s books, and returning to the Dark Protectors is always fun. As always, Zanetti’s vivid description, exciting action sequences, excellently developed characters you love – and those you love to hate – humor, and emotional, steamy romance come together for an entertaining and thrilling PNR read as expected. Additionally, I like that Karma’s POV offers a fascinating and insightful insider’s perspective of life with the Kurjans compared to the Seven and the Realm. It’s cool to see all the characters from previous books and see the next generation coming of age and increasing in importance to the war on both sides.
Benny is a loyal, deadly, wise-cracking, fiercely protective, moody, risk-taking vampire-demon hybrid who lives on the edge. While he has no interest in settling down with a family of his own, he lives for his brothers and their mates – his family. But Karma brings his primal instincts for a mate to the surface when touching her activated his mating mark and linked their lives and destinies. Kind, intelligent, loyal, courageous, and reserved, Karma has no idea of her own strength and power. She was mated to a Kurjan centuries ago – so long ago that she remembers nothing of her old life, only the life of a prisoner and Kurjan servant. Karma must do whatever it takes and sacrifice anything, including the confusing and inexplicable connection she feels to Benny and the safety and belonging she finds with him and the Seven, to protect innocents in her care. Both Benny and Karma fight to resist the attraction simmering between them. However, the more time they spend together after Benny successfully rescues her, the more difficult it is for either of them to deny the connection they share and the passions that they stir in each other – feelings new to Karma.
While Rebel’s Karma has thrilling action scenes and plenty of suspense, it feels like it focuses more on developing and furthering the relationships between the characters, primarily Benny and Karma, but also between Karma and the Seven and among the secondary characters like the younger generation of the Realm and the Kurjans. As such, the pacing feels a bit more laid back, not quite as urgent for much of the book. The interactions between Benny and Karma are sweet, steamy, passionate, and intense. However, their relationship is complicated by secrets Karma keeps tied to her connection to innocents left behind when rescued that the Kurjans are using against her.
Although I did really like Rebel’s Karma, I think my expectations were so high that it might have affected my read a little. Still, fans of the Dark Protectors and readers looking for a paranormal romance with thrilling action, superb world-building, likable characters, and intense, steamy, and sweet romance should love this entertaining read.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
Reading any books in this series scares me- I’m scared that eventually it will be over and I never want to leave this incredible world that RZ has designed. RZ is a completely underrated author but has quickly become a favourite- she writes amazing alpha heroes and amazing paranormal world building.
Our hero met the woman who is defined to be his mate 3 years ago and now has come the time to rescue her from his enemies. Our heroine has known no other life than as the widow of a Kurjan (evil vampire species) where she is treated as a servant. When she is “rescued” she has no idea about the world around her or about the other factions who she was always told were the evil ones. She has to trust that the man who kidnapped (rescued) her and the insight he has on the world around her.
Although the hero in this book is definitely alpha he makes sure to empower the heroine and give her the life she didn’t know she was missing. The hero in other books was always referred to as “crazy” but his quirks just make him endearing. This book continues with the story building going through this whole series and I recommend reading the books in order- you don’t want to miss out on just how good this series is!
Absolutely loved. Always enjoy reading Rebecca Zanetti books. Can't wait for what's next. Going to hate when this series comes to an end. I can easily reread this series over and over again.
Always enjoy Zanetti’s books! Fun action and suspense! Sweet and steamy romance! Lots of interesting ideas involving paranormal elements; an entertaining read! Benny is a cool vampire-demon hybrid that finds a mate connection with Karma. It’s a shame there’s plenty of things causing drama for these two! Just so happens that she was mated to one of the Kurjans; the Kurjans are the enemies of our hero group, so that’s not great. This series has been going on for quite awhile, so you may want to start with the previous books for the best reading experience; each book does feature a different couple though. Not a fan of some of Karma’s actions, but I appreciate that she wants to help others. I liked Benny; he’s sweet and protective. Overall, an entertaining, exciting read!
Benny's story was everything I was expecting and more. I didn't think I could love Benny any more than I already did, but I was wrong. I loved him with Karma and thought they complemented each other nicely. I appreciated how the author went about building their connection. It felt real and like everything else in the story, it was developed fully and paced accordingly. It wasn't rushed nor did it feel forced. Of course, it helped that they had great chemistry--these two were explosive together!
With the introduction of some new characters (as well as the appearance of some well-loved ones too!), action-packed scenes and the continuation of the conflict and additional story lines, Rebecca Zanetti didn't disappoint. As expected, the writing was superb with all the elements flowing together well. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
