Every woman's fantasy trip to Scotland!

Bonnie and her best friend, Dakota, journey to Scotland to run a quaint coffee shop in a witty "fish out of water" tale that focuses mostly on the culture shock but still brings all the heat to the romance. The third-person talk-to-the-reader narrative style deploys quite a bit of the humor, but it also presents Bonnie as a bit more whiney and scatterbrained than I think the author intended.

Still, Rowan is the classic huge, growly, heart-buried-under-pain kilted hero that we venture to Scottish romances for, single-handedly rescuing the romance and melting every heart in the vicinity. I loved the down-to-earth depictions of the Highland locals, and give them all the props for adopting these two Americans into their community.

There's a whole lot of fun interspersed with insightful emotional depth, and all the main characters were very well developed by the end. I adored the twin HEAs - this book really surprised by showcasing two romances, especially as different as they were. If you like your romances a little on the frothy side, this was written for you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Bonnie and her best friend Dakota decide to leave the lives that aren’t turning out the way they planned for a six-month adventure to Scotland where they will manage a coffee shop. They believe that this will be the opportunity of a lifetime until they realize the business wasn’t what they expected or how cantankerous the owner’s son would be.

Rowan’s life isn’t what he expected either however even though he appears to be irritated and short-tempered most of the time there is a lot more to the man than first appears. From the moment he meets Bonnie the sparks of antagonism fly and that’s when the fun really begins.

Witty banter, a swoony romance and two people who couldn’t be more different when it comes to their lifestyles, or their personalities find what was missing in their lives in each other.

Loved this book so much. The back and forth between characters had me dying with laughter. I loved that the book took place in a different area and that we got to learn about the different history of the town.

This book had me laughing out loud from the very beginning!

Bonnie and Dakota have been BFF’s forever and it was so fun to see their trip to Scotland. Bonnie was a snarky one and I loved how she was t afraid to be herself. Rowan is a lumbering Scotsman who hides his heart of gold behind a surly personality.

The characters had depth and I felt like I was going through everything with them. There was a lot of personal growth that I enjoyed seeing and was so glad Bonnie and Dakota got their HEA’s!

A review post will be made on Instagram on release day. Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book started out with making me laugh so hard while I was eating in a restaurant that I worried what the people around me were thinking. But that’s really no surprise with a story written by Meghan Quinn. I laughed so hard almost all the way through, well, really all the way through to be honest. Except for a few parts that I was crying because what was happening just really got me. I mean, I totally understood Rowan, although again I think at the bit at the end he was a bit over the top. But I was very upset with Dakota’s part in the final conflict scenes. However Quinn knows how to make the characters redeem themselves, as well as make you understand exactly why they do what they do.

This was actually my second book in a row set in Scotland. So it was kind of fun reading about this country that I’ve wanted to visit since I first discovered the show Outlander, and since my sister moved there in 2019 right before all the Covid stuff hit and messed up any chance of going to visit her. Maybe in 2022. We’ll see. But this book only made me want to go more! Plus, I’ve asked my sister to bring me back a Curly Wurly candy bar next time she visits us.

I loved that Bonnie’s name was Bonnie, because of how Scottish people call something “bonny” when it is pretty. It was also fun hearing all the Scottish slang, some I’d heard from my sister or other stuff like Outlander, others were new and I told my sister she had to ask her new Scottish friends about it! The word holibags amuses me so much. But when Bonnie said “holi-boobies” I was dying laughing.

And then there was all the food, cakes, etc. that they talked about! I need to try that stuff too! Oh Meghan Quinn, I adore you and your characters and stories soooooooooo much!

This book was fun, quirky, and a fast read. This book was laugh out loud funny and the perfect any time read. This book was enjoyable and unputdownable. I thoroughly enjoy most of this authors work, but this was a perfect read.

***5 “McGrumpyshire” Stars***

This was definitely a book that kept me on my toes and kept me turning the pages. It was laugh out loud funny and eye rolling until eyes hurt frustrating, but it was hard not to fall in love with not only Bonnie and Rowan, but their friends and the inhabitants of Corsekelly ~ even the furry, four legged ones, and when everything was said and done, wanting to spend much more time in the Highlands with them all.

Bonnie and Rowan definitely took me on a ride, but even with all the eye rolling they induced, I ended up loving them both. Bonnie is vibrant and has no edit button, her insecurities definitely ran roughshod on her many times, but I enjoyed her honesty and how she came into her own. Rowan was a true grumpy-gus, but he came by it honestly. His saving grace was how much he did care about his friends, family and the town in general. So watching as the walls he’d erected around himself started to crumble was a lot of fun.

Their journey to their HEA was an entertaining one. Their “meet cute” wasn’t so cute, but it definitely set the tone of how intense their relationship would end up being. Their bantering, well snark-fests in all honesty, ~ was a lot of fun, the chemistry between them hawt. The ups and downs were many, though that last one was a doozy...and while I would have liked a little more groveling, I cannot deny that I was happy with everything turned out for them in the end.

This was a fun read. I loved the small town vibe and the supporting cast of characters are all ones I’d love to hang out more with. There are some situations that could be a bit intense for some, but are all handled well and give depth to all that is going on with Rowan and Bonnie. So, if you’re feeling like you need a little romance in the Scottish Highlands, then this is a must click for you!

A heartwarming, funny read about finding yourself, friendship, a picturesque Scottish village and a new love that will take your breath away. It was a beautiful story full of witty banter, sadness, characters you'll love and I could not put it down!

A grumpy Scot makes me hot!

A HIGHLAND FLING will make you swoon over the epically grumpy Rowan and adore the wonderfully quirky Bonnie! I legit snort-laughed so many times while the Enemies-to-Lovers hate banter was flying between these two.

Both Rowan and Bonnie are fabulously written characters that are likable, but flawed, and grow as the story progresses! Complex characters for the WIN!! And the side characters are also wonderful.

This story is sweet and swoony, hilarious in parts, sweet, also includes some great friendships.

But what's really important is how freaking hot this book is. Geez. A HIGHLAND FLING dishes out steamy scene to curl your toes and overheat your Kindle and I'm👏🏻HERE👏🏻FOR👏🏻IT.

You need to read A HIGHLAND FLING. Fair warning: This will make you want to move to a ridiculously small Scottish town and start chasing kilts.

Bonnie has fallen on hard times. She’s trapped in a rut; newly single, newly unemployed, and she and her best friend, Dakota, are being evicted from their apartment. All Bonnie wants to do is find her passion in life and prove to her parents she’s not a complete failure. But clearly life has other plans for her. So when Dakota finds an online Help Wanted ad, seeking two friends who are willing to run a coffee shop in Corsekelly, Scotland for six months, the friends see this as their chance to start over. But Bonnie wasn’t planning on the culture shock. She wasn’t planning on finding a purpose in Corsekelly. And she definitely wasn’t planning on the grumpy Rowan MacGregor and his muscles, his accent, his tattoos, and his grip on her heart.

The Highland Fling was such a fun contemporary romance. The whole premise of the plot just felt freeing and, honestly, enviable. Who wouldn’t take up the chance to leave the hard times behind and move across the world to find your passion? And Quinn has a wonderful way of painting the idyllic Corsekelly. Everywhere from the cottages, to the coffee shop, to the market and pub were easy to envision because of how well Quinn described the town.

Bonnie was well-written and very relatable, feeling lost while simultaneously believing she is better than her bouts of bad luck. She was the perfect foil to the quiet, grumpy Rowan. Though as fun as Bonnie was, I have to say that Rowan was my favorite character, and not just because of his physical description and accent. Rowan had his own history of family issues, and as Bonnie peeled back his layers, we were able to see why Rowan was such a grump to Bonnie’s sunshine. Rowan was just as dynamic as Bonnie, which I absolutely loved. When Bonnie meets Rowan, he is stoic and quiet; by the end of The Highland Fling, we see emotion and vulnerability. As much as I loved and envied Bonnie’s character, it was Rowan’s character growth that really moved me the most. Quinn also created a multifaceted cast of supporting characters with their own personalities, strengths, and back stories. While this was Bonnie and Rowan’s story, I loved that they weren’t the only ones to work through their issues to find their passion.

The Highland Fling had a wonderful setting and characters that made good use of the grumpy/sunshine trope. Quinn’s descriptions of the town and its denizens draw readers in, but they will keep turning the page for Bonnie and Rowan’s journey. With minimal amounts of steamy scenes but plenty of character, fans of contemporary romance as well as rom-coms will want to check out Bonnie and Rowan’s relationship in The Highland Fling.

Bonnie has lost her job, and has lost her way. She reads an ad asking for help in a coffee shop in Scotland, and decides to convince her BFF Dakota to join her. Dakota has broken up with her gf, and is looking to find a way to rebuild her confidence, so both take off for the Scottish Highlands.

Once there, they deal with a car that's too small, driving on the wrong side of the road, understanding the local accents, and trying to understand what they're really doing there, as the coffee shop doesn't have any customers.

In addition, they run into Rowan, the coffee shop owner's son who is grumpy and wants nothing to do with either Bonnie or Dakota. The two girls , and eventually win over not only Kilty McGrumpyshire (Rowan), but everyone in the small town.

Fun travel and HEA story, and hope that there's more stories about some of the others in this town.

The Highland Fling was a fun and hot read! You get the expected giggles from a Meghan Quinn book. Bonnie and Rowan were a great pair even though they had a little bit of a back and forth start. Bonnie is a hoot and Rowan is a little broody. Together these two make amazing chemistry.

This small town romance was not what I expected the story to be. I am so glad it wasn't because this story was a pleasant surprise! A great read to have in your hands!

„Maybe this is what I was meant to do. Where I was meant to be all along.”

Funny, charming and totally heartwarming tale about finding not only love, but also yourself. Meghan Quinn sure knows how to throw an emotional punch, and The Highland Fling is definitely full of feels. On top of that this book is filled with humor, witty banter and men in kilts, so be prepared to laugh your heart out and blush constantly!

I adored Rowan and his grumpy personality. I loved his Scottish-ness and hidden vulnerability.

I won’t lie- Bonnie annoyed me a lot, but she made it up with her sass and quirkiness.

The banter between these two was hilarious and I liked their palpable chemistry. And when the romance finally started, the fireworks were flying everywhere. The steam level is on point!

Quinn delivered another entertaining and heartfelt story. Huge plus from me for the foreign setting! I love to read about another countries and panty-melting accents! The Highland Fling is the perfect read to end the vacation with.

I absolutely love Meghan Quinn and her stories are always highly entertaining. I love that she took us on an international journey to one of my very favorite countries, Scotland! There were a lot of laughs to be had while reading this, as I would fully expect from a Meghan book. I got lost in the countryside of Scotland and almost added to my bucket list, "visit the coffee shop in Corsekelly" until I remembered it is a fictional place!

I really liked the relationship between Bonnie and Rowan. Quirky girl and grumpy hero, an unlikely pair but it really worked for them! I loved Dakota (more than Bonnie) and Rowan grew on me along the way. I liked their back and forth banter, and I loved how everything that transpired was something I could see happening in real life, not over the top for drama's sake.

This is a really fun book to read, and I loved getting lost in the Scottish countryside. I hope this is not the last book we'll see for this cast of characters, as there are a few of them I'd love to see get their own story!

Many thanks to Montlake Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

This was a lovely story to read, and was set in a small town in Scotland. I'm happy the H and h were able to find love together and find each other again after everything they had been through before they met. The chemistry and banter between Rowan and Bonnie was hilarious! I do love that we got two HEAs in this book!

I loved the town this book was set in and would love to visit this type of place.

However, this book didn't have me as captivated as Meghan's other books, hence the three stars when many of the other books I read by Meghan Quinn are 5 stars.

More often than not I love Meghan Quinn's books and this one did NOT disappoint. In fact, I think this has blown some of her more recent books out of the water. I felt like this one just went back to her feel good, low angst, hilarious, heartstring tugging roots (e.g The Mother Road).

I loved Bonnie! She was a great person who loved so fiercely. Her friends, particularly Dakota, meant that world to her and she just wanted everyone to be happy. She took a pretty big chance when they moved to Scotland and I liked how, even though it was a culture shock, she took it in the best of strides.

Rowan was as grumpy as they come, but he also had so much depth. He wasn't one dimensional by any stretch and he had a sad, heartbreaking background that immediately made you forgive him and fall in love with him alongside Bonnie. When he did finally admit his feelings to Bonnie he was loving and so sweet. I really enjoyed watching the two of them come together.

Mixed in with the fun, happy, and hilarious times are some down moments where you want to shake certain characters and my heart genuinely broke for Bonnie towards the end. And Rowan really. It was like I could feel her despair in my chest, but I was looking forward to that all being fixed.

Overall, I absolutely loved this one and I will be doing a re-read. I hope she gets some awesome narrators for this one because I most definitely want to listen to the audio.

Meghan Quinn does it again! Escape to Scotland with this adorable enemies-to-lovers romcom and fall in love with Bonnie and Rowan!

Grumpy Rowan is as surly as they come. He feels stuck in his life, wants more than what his tiny Scottish village has to offer, but can't bring himself to abandon his parents and chase after his own dreams after a tragic accident that tore his family apart. American Bonnie is going through life aimlessly, searching for her purpose, her reason, the thing that she is *great* at. Never in a million years did Bonnie imagine that she'd find her purpose in a small, struggling coffee shop in Scotland. Never in a million years did Rowan think that the person who infused life back into his existence would be a feisty, stubborn American. These two met their match in one another, and it was a joy to watch Rowan and Bonnie fall in love!

I received an advanced copy via Montlake from NetGalley and voluntarily left a review.

Meghan Quinn ....writing a book set in the Scottish Highlands....yes please. I was sold from the minute I read the blurb.

Rowan's grumpy personality was an easy one to like. You can tell instantly that he's loyal to his friends and family. He just happens to be suspicious of newcomers. Getting to know Rowan's character and everything that made him tick was one of my favorite things in this book.

However, Bonnie took a bit longer for me to warm up to. Once I finally could connect with her struggles, it was better. But for much of the book, I found her to be indecisive and sometimes selfish. I also didn't care for her friend a great deal either. At the end, you have more of everyone's backstory and their poor decisions and conflicts make more sense. Unfortunately, it took me a while to get there.

I loved the setting - - the author paints a spectacular picture of rural Scotland with their unique foods and traditions. Scotland has been on my personal bucket list for a while, but I think it just moved up a notch or two. The setting truly was like another "character" in this book and it had a starring role. Corsekelly and its townspeople were simply wonderful.

Overall, The Highland Fling was another enjoyable book by Meghan Quinn. As always, she manages to take a solid storyline and then blends in humor and a little heartbreak with the end result being an addictive and satisfying read.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

Cute and funny, The Highland Fling was the perfect enemies-to-lovers rom-com which was set in a small town in Scotland.

I was a little unsure about Bonnie at the beginning because I found her a little too much. However, as the story progressed, she started to grow on me. I adored the Rowan. He seemed a little grumpy and rough on the edges, but he had a big heart. They disliked each other at first sight and their bickering was funny and witty. However, as they spend more time together, their attraction grew and they just couldn’t deny their feelings anymore.

I truly enjoyed this grumpy/sunshine enemies-to-lovers rom-com and would highly recommend it.
I volunteered to provide an honest review of an advance complimentary copy of this book.
