I don't know what I was expecting from this book but it was just ok. I appreciate that the author is sharing their knowledge and experiences but this mostly felt kind of like a sales pitch for magick. I didn't love this but I didn't hate it.
Easy to follow, it's mostly a book of self-help, motivation, and improvement for Pagans and Witches, but not the story of how Witchcraft helped the author (except for one or two cases). Although he shares anecdotes about his stormy past and how he has overcome each stage, Vincent did not use magic to move forward, but relates events from his past to current teachings that serve those in need. Although attractive and emotional, I expected something different, or at least a different way of telling than the author used.
As any human with hurt and trauma in my life I found this book very valuable. This book is full of practical advice and insights. I suggest everyone get a copy for their shelves.
Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the advanced e-reader copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a wonderful guide to using the power of Magick to overcome emotional baggage. It teaches you to learn to look within yourself to affect personal growth and change. This is for anyone who has been hurt or traumatized by life. I would recommend this book as a wonderful addition to your personal collection.
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
"How Witchcraft Saved My Life" by Vincent Higginbotham is part autobiography and part How-To/Self-Help. Which chapter is specific to the topic Higginbotham chooses to go in depth with. The book outlines his personal struggles from a young age of sexual abuse, struggling with acceptance, and homelessness. His take on his life was raw and admirable. Within this topics, he recalls certain parts of his life and how us, as the reader, can use his knowledge to help ourselves regardless of our situation by words of advice, how-tos, journaling ideas, spell ideas, etc. Now he doesn't take about his struggles but dives deep into topics like tarot card/divinations, how to listen to our intuition, our 6th sense, and more.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and appreciate Higginbotham for being so raw and open. Definitely a great resource to have in your book shelf.
When I say I thoroughly enjoyed this book I mean it. This book isnt for people who are easily triggered by hot topic mundane issue but for those willing to work their way through it in its entirety it is a worth while experience.
I really appreciated the authors view point and willingness to share their experiences (regardless of how heartbreaking it may be at times, at least it was heartbreaking to me) and overall this is a book that I've been waiting years to read.
Author Vincent Higginbotham bravely shares his path to magick in his book, How Witchcraft Saved My Life. Part autobiography, part how to, this is not for the faint hearted nor the “I watched the Craft and now I want use magick to get my boyfriend back” privileged white girl ding bat. This will resonate with those seeking healing from similar traumas and older practitioners. This is pretty gritty stuff and very real.

Reader does get some things/techniques to consider or introduced. Mostly get points from authors life and magics role at that time or later in life.
Very informative book. Full of a lot of useful information. This book will also be very useful for future reference.
Thanks you Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought it was pretty great and informative.
Mr Higginbotham has written an honest and very doable, practical, and relevant course in making improvements in life. He is forthcoming in his personal battles and the very real abuse he experienced over the years. His story doesnt stop with the hurt and hopelessness but went on to becoming stronger and happier. To do this he had to come up with ways to turn around unbelievable hardship into something not trivialized but acknowledged. Placed in the ways of a modern witch Vincent gives common sense steps in improvement spiritually and physically. This book IMO is a landmark for honesty and change for those who follow. an earth based religion or those who are wanting change in their own lives. I did not have the hardships Vincent had but as all of us do I had my personal demons in life that now can be looked at and dealt with honestly . Excellent book that is the first of its kind in real practical steps to life again.
I'm still not entirely sure what I was expecting with this book, and I'm not entirely sure that this book delivered (or didn't). I appreciate the stories and knowledge that the author shared and as someone who has been through things that are similar, I applaud them for putting their stories out there. However, I felt like this was a "is your life messed up? Try magick!" type sales pitch throughout the entire book. For someone who has a base knowledge, there wasn't much new information shared. This might be better for those who are at a loss with their current religious practices and their own trauma and do not know where to turn next. For those who have a base magickal knowledge or have a handle on their own trauma already, skip it.
Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for the ARC of #HowWitchcraftSavedMyLife
This is an excellent book full of practical advices and insights. What is of special value is that it contains stories from real life and then the lessons learned in light of witchcraft knowledge and practices. And these occult lessons are offered in a very lucid way. Forex. Just in first chapter whole practice of main magic approach is presented and can be practiced instantly and that is very helpful. In first part of the book we have more general teachings presented like meaning of magic, protection, tarot and divination. A really awesome chapter about how to use magic in everyday life is given. Learn the secret of mundane (but also magical) works here!!! In the second chapter pearls of wisdom are too many to count. We all know about four occult virtues and they always sounded somehow abstract, but in this book they are presented in very practical ways that you can use them right away. A special chapter about gratitude is also interesting. One the real value of this text is that we can glimpse into the life of one sincere witch and learn from kindly offered lessons. There and there maybe just a little clarification about some meanings is needed. In general, it is an amazing book!
